They're not mine, nor have I ever raced in the Y800. The course is 400 miles each way, 800 total. All records are held by Harold Attla. Downriver record is 5:36:22 set in 2001, for an average speed of about 71.35 MPH.
Upriver record is 6:10:39 set in 2007, for an average speed of 64.72 MPH.
Course record, 800 miles is 11:52:43 set in 2007, for an average speed of 67.35 MPH.
Boat is 24' long, carries 3 people, weight 1500 pounds at start of race and about 1250 at the end (43 gallons gas). Engine is stock Yamaha 50 w/o rev limiter, prop 12 X 20-22 cleaver with nosecone. His best confirmed GPS reading is 78.
Attached is a pic of Harold's "My Pleasure".

I believe about 7000. The Yamaha engines are tough, they withstand the wide open speed for hours on end. They used to have troubles burning them up until they started using nosecones.

I should clarify something, that fuel load is for a one-way run. It would not be possible to carry enough fuel for 800 miles. Some years ago when they changed the rules slightly to allow the Yamaha Engines, the factory did not believe the speeds they were hearing about, with 30 pounds per horsepower. They came up and saw it for themselves. The huge surface area for lift, airtraps, tiny frontal area, contoured gas tanks and shape of the deck etc. are a wing and make the speed possible. One engineer/driver did experiments and measured air pressure under the boat in different areas and helped advance the concept, and the speeds kept going up.

Dale you didn't mention the water, food and firearms requirements. Are they still in effect?
