This is a poweroint slide I made of my dad's U.I.M. Record with a the photo used to make his U.I.M. Certificate. Dad tells me there were a few people that commented on thefact that he was not wearing a helmet when the picture was taking during a Test run.

Here is a picture of a MERCURY Dealer Poster from 1984.
April 28 1984 at the Moore Haven KILO's in Florida George andrews Jr. established an OZ World Speed Record, beating the old mark by over 13mph. It was a Karelsen Hydro powered by a Modified Mercury 200 Powerhead and it was running a Mercury Racing Propeller according to the Poster. The Engine was prepared by Dick O'Dea Racing of Patterson, New Jersey.

Frank,

If you post the photos separately (separate posts), it won't require clicking each single file separately to view...the photo will be embedded into the actual post in actual form...

Thanks for the posts...

The poster of George Andrews is based upon a photo that I took at the Moore Haven, Fl. kilo`s. George had just set the record and still had two more passes left on his runs. I was standing on the bank of the river with my camera. He passed by the pits, and his crew gave him the thumbs up indicating that he had indeed set the record. George nodded to the crew and then turned aound and indicated that he was going to run again. He went by just fine on the first leg. However, on the return pass, back towards the pits, the boat came apart and George lost his life. The skeg had broken on the lower unit. Speculation was that he had struck some unseen debris in the river. I did send Dick O`Dea the last ever pics of George in the boat. Eight and a half months later, George`s daughter was born.

I was looking at the list of records on the UIM site, However I couldnīt find
a lot of records that I have seen documented evidence on,
for example the man in the picture has made about 20 worldrecords
together with his son, where are all the records?

And another question;
Who has the most records all times, all classes?

This guy seems still very keen on driving despite the not so sunny
weather and his coming 75th anniversary! :D

Welcome, Thomas!

Who has the most records all times, all classes?

Unless there is someone in Europe who has set over 110 records, the answer is an American. A very mild mannered, modest and polite gentleman who currently holds the ultimate outboard record .... you probably know who it is and may have even met him since he travels all around the world racing.

Hello Sam,

You must mean a certain guy who lives in the Seattle area?
One of my friends (:D ) keeps telling me heīs a chicken and not a real racer
(only striving for records), how can it be?
A man with so many records canīt be afraid of high speeds???
But how many records was the question?

The man pulling the rope sure is no chicken I can assure,
despite a handsome man restoring old hydroplanes!

By the way, nice to see all the same guys here!

Here you have a few records!

Mr Wartinger is not a "fierce" or overly agressive circuit course racer, but I would by no means consider him a "chicken" or "not a real racer". This would probably reflect more on your friend's expectations of Mr. Wartinger. Maybe your friend expected to see him win every heat he entered and was disappointed.

I maintain the archives for the UIM which includes the entire list of 3600 speed records which have been homolgated since 1923. I plan to publish this on CD Rom in the new year along with the result of every UIM World and European Championship, circuit and offshore, a total of about 600 pages.

I know that the prolific speed record holder Bob Wartinger has set many records, but most of these are not recognised by the UIM. Probably the most records have been set by Italian Carlo Casalini who in 1965 set 20 records in 1 week at Sabaudia in 4 different inboard classes.

Mike why may I ask are Bob Wartinger records not recognized by U I M . If the integrity of the sport was kept intact amd in fact protocal was followed with the strictest of regulations being in play , a reasoning of such an outcome as being stated would be in need of explanation. I am at this moment asking for this explanation. Thank You. R. Valachovic

Hello

I guess its down to paying the appropriate fee for the UIM to homologate the record, many US drivers are quite happy just to pay the fee for a "APBA World Record". Bob's name only appears 8 times in the UIM list, it would have cost a small fortune to register every record he has set! One of the records Bob currently holds (OSY.400) was previously held by my nephew.

Thank you for the timely response. There is an answer for every question and this answer in fact states the true reason .

Thank you for taking the time. Bob

There is also possibilty of a particular class or course length being a local class to APBA that is not recognized by UIM.

UIM only issues records for UIM recognized classes & lengths

When Brad set his APBA course record in SST-60 back in 1990, it cost $315 to register (homologate) it with the UIM. It probably costs more than that now.

So I can see why someone like Wart, who has more than 100 records may not want to fork out that much cash - that's over $30,000 in registration fees  yikes.

Val, we just received a UIM certificate for Lauren's J hydro record. Teri and I thought her having a certificate next to mine would be good for her.

today's cost is $400 or $450, I don't remember which.
