In 1983, a Laser 380 Ray won the combined high-points (Vee and Mod VP) at the Mod VP Nationals in Rome, NY. The driver was Mike Quindazzi racing out of Rockland County New York and at the time he was the North East distributor for Laser boats.

on the license plate frame in addition to the other award. Not too expensive for the sponsor, and VERY nice for the winner to display on his vehicle.

In places where I raced in the past I have never seen anything awarded like that, or the Bud after the race got in the way of seeing it. Very nice, as it is always displayed on the tow vehicle (or at least I would have) in a very public way, and lets your peers know what you have accomplished.

I am sure it would cause some questions to be asked and in turn more promotion of the sport would be achieved. USTS did sell a similar plate holder touting PRO racing, and Eileen and I had one on each of our vehicles for quite a while.

Mike Quindazzi is back in business in the form of his son "Mike". Mike Jr. has just purchased a beautiful STV and powered it with a COR 2.0 Merc. He will be racing his first "official" race at Bakersfield California on the 24th of this month. Father Mike will be there to tell him what he did right/wrong. Father Mike has been in contact with me and has expressed a thought about starting up the COR boats on the east coast. If we can pick up a little more interest outside of region 12 we may have to consider going national . Mike who is a real "wizard" on the computer has constructed a new web site for the COR boats. You will find it at CORboatracing.com. It now contains the APBA rules for COR racing, events, forum, buy and sell, entry forms etc. I and all of the COR members would like to thank Mike for his early contributions to the improvement of the COR class in it's efforts to expand COR boat racing not only in Region 12 but also the rest of the United States. COR racing in the east and maybe south would be cool.

The Canadians are also looking at the possibility of running 2.0's with slightly different rules. Maybe we can bring them under one "tent". The only thing we would need to get them running in the south would be to paint the fingers on the left hand with an arrow pointing down so those BYUBOYZ would know what to do when they get to the first turn. You got all the engine talent in the world with the famous:) T-Rex. Rod

I would love to see COR get up and running in the mid-Atlantic. We had some good racers and good courses in VA/MD/PA/NC etc.

You have your chance to join us! I have inquiries coming in from Canada, Seattle, Texas, New York and Minnesota but none of them seemto have the numbers to get started. Remember, we are a Special Events Class of racers and are easy to join up with. Our rules are quite clear and are listed in the Special Events Rules Portion of APBA. Dutch Squires is the SE Chairman and can answer most of your questions, if not he, then I as COR Chairman can certainly be of assistance. Rod Zapf :)
