nebody on here got ne good pics or good tips on outboard jets.
The only experiance I have had with outboard Jets comes from the sales and service of Mercury outboards for fishing. Here in Iowa waters we have found them to be more trouble that they are worth.
First off the loss of horsepower from the powerhead out the pump is HUGE. For example a 60 hp powerhead is required to create 45hp at the jet.
Just a few miles north of our shop here is a river known for great bass and walley fishing. The only problem is other than the holes these fish hang out in the river is very shallow. Guys were buying these jet outboards trying to navigate these shallow waters and some were having success with 17' jons going through 3"-4" of water. But to do this you have to be running at W.O.T. and you can't fish going that fast so you have to stop and when you stop your setting on river bottom-SAND. Then guy's would try to power out using the pump as a dredge and that destroys the pump impeller and liner in a quick fashion. Not to mention plugging up the cooling system. Repairs cost BIG$$$$$.
If your sold on a jet outboard some of the things you may want to concider is the boat. You will need a boat with a 25" transom so you can get the jet intake up high enough. A wide flat bottom works best.
Make sure you buy an engine with enough power.
Balancing the load in your boat is real important. Most boats we have sold we put in a center counsole to keep the weight of the driver in the center of the boat.
The water conditions you will be running in make a differance. If your river-lake bottom is rocky thats better than a sand bottom. The pump will tollerate small rocks going through it and the screen will stop the big rocks.
Up grade the pump impeller and liner from aluminum to stainless.
Hope this help you some.

Im from missouri. we've got a lot of shallow rivers and I've been on a jet motor since I was in about 4th grade. We run a gravel bottom river. I was just wonderin if everyone knew ne performance tips to help out. we also have a 40hp limit on our river so it makes it a lil harder., it's fun thought

Hey, thanks those are some pretty interesting lists, I know their not that old but it's kinda neat to see the lists from when I was growing up and starting to hit the river with mom and dad, now that I'm building my own jet boat it's a little different in terms of spending your own money. Have you ever tried any high performance stuff for the jet motors?

This is a pic of a 56ci omc boat that I run the river with runnin 55-57mph. It'll put away most 225 jet motors. it's pretty amazing. The boat in the far lane is an evinrude 225 and it's the top dog on all the races, for the past few years. It's wicked, don't know the mph on it though. just fast.

They are made by San Leandro pump. San Leandro is near Oakland Calif.
They are very popular in my area of Yuba City Calif. If one wants to fish for stripers and Salmon on the Feather River with an outboard you will need a jet pump. They work very well.
