Funny how things go, I had really forgotten about this boat, then about thre weeks ago, I saw her at Irvine testing....

Then, at the long Beach Sprint Nationals, I didn't go on Saturday and I heard "Super Cinders", now owned by Mike Leach, had run aground in the Nostalgia race, on Saturday...I'm glad to report no injuries to people, but the boat took a beating...

Her are a few pictures of "Super Cinders" that were in July 1970 Powerboat Magazine..

Actually, I have not heard a word and because we had a wedding to go to last year, I missed Saturday's racing....but heard about SUPER CINDERS going a little wide in turn one...

Funny, as we'd been testing at Irvine, the week before and she looked and handled bitchen....Heard she was damaged pretty good... I don't even know who to ask about her repairs....

After the unexpected parking job on the rocks the transom was torn up pretty bad. Mike Leach got a talking to by both Tom Patterson (the original builder) and Dwight Moody Sr. (one of the original drivers and the unfortunate driver during the fateful heat) and the word to Leach was "you will not say no!" as they told Leach that they would handle the reconstruction of the historic piece. Can't ask for better than that, once again, the boat racing family takes care of it's own!
Sucks that it happened but couldn't ask for a better ending.
Word is it is out at Mr. Patterson's shop and work is coming along!
Add: When it is fixed Leach intends on running it in Nostalgia Endurance again,.....just not at Long Beach! (Who could blame him!)

I had spoke to Bob patterson a few months ago and he said it was on its way to the shop. He also told me the reason it had hit the rocks was due to a previous owner adding length to the rudder. When they were testing at Irvine they really didnt turn it that hard, so the first turn at Long Beach and wow she couldnt make it.

It was great seeing the boat at parker last weekend, still having turning issues though. I guess when he was headed towards the second pin when he turned left the boat went right. I hope he gets it worked out so we can see it run!

I just finished cutting two inches of diameter off Super Cinders prop, foir Mike Leach. The BIG Allison power boat will be at the V-Drive Regatta this weekend, I think.

I also think, Mike is trying to figure out how to make that thing turn better, I know he's at least making changes in the prop. I'll deliver the prop tomorrow....morning...Mike owns a muffler shop, never want to charge him, never know when a man might need some muffler work....

Cool prop, ain't she..Big propshaft for that ALLISON!!!
