When I started this web site with Ted March, we promised ourselves not to be just STATUS QUO...that we wanted to change Boat Racing for the good and at the same time offer HISTORY....

I came from small boats, my heart is in small boats. My youngest son Broc raced C RUNBAOUT LAST WEEK, though I'm made a decision to put him into our back up 45, I'd like a place here at BRF that kneelers felt welcome....

I never touched he needle when we raced at Salt Springs... The motor sounded great and went faster than I wanted it to...

I did notice that the "CLICKER" did not touch the needle valve.

How do I know if I'm clicking it without it touching??

Am I apt to screw the "C" setting up by running a 20 restrictor plate???

I reALLY DIDN'T WANT TO BUY A 20, BUT HAVE FOUND ONE.....
Should we just hold the clicker on the needle and turn it with visegrips???

I've heard many bad stories about the 302 carb setting... I'm I just a worry wort???

How thick should a cut head be??? (Not that I plan to cut this one)...

Ron,

Did you get an owner's manual with the engine? If so, set your carborator setting, timing, plug gap, etc... to what the manual says. If not, you want to set the carb. from 1 turn open to 1-1/4 turns open. If the motor is to lean, there will not be much throttle response. Meaning, when you squeeze the throttle, the engine will hesitate. When inserting the restrictor, open the carb another 1/8 turn, that will get you close to the six clicks. Personally, I don't utilize the clicks myself as they are not always accurate. I mentioned the clicks in another thread because its an easy way for most to set their carb. Set your timing somewhere between 220 and 240. And, I forget what the spark plug gap is. I'd have to look at the manual and its at my parent's house.

As far as milling the head, Tom Johnston does them at a very low price. Which head to you have? Does it take the big spark plugs or the little ones? Some guys like one over the other, but it doesn't really matter except that the little plugs are cheaper to buy. Be sure you put new plugs in the engine as they only last a season or two and when they go bad the engine will not run well. It will cut out. I had this happen this year and thought it was fuel problems but new plugs cured it.

For a conservative set-up, set the height at 3/4 deep and be sure to set the water hoses the way I had mentioned before, it will pump better. Also, if you run the bottom discharge up the deck towards the throttle, you'll son will be able to see if the motor is pumping while he is racing. With the right prop, you will not have to run the motor much above, if at all, 3/4 and it will run fast. Good luck and let us know how the rig runs after the first race.

Thanks, forgot about water and a hydro...

Ernie going to send us hardware for the hydro, and we'll go to Menden next weekend...

Ernie (DAWE) is going to call Rick Montoya and get us a 20 SS restrictor plate..

We have the small plugs..

I'll get Broc to read your posts. (You know teachers don't read)...Oh, yes we got the manual for the 302 from Bill Boyes..

Cool looking hydro, maybe I'll run her in 20 SS and let Broc run her is CSH and OSY 400....NOT!!!!
