Hi, Ron. Thanks for the call earlier... nice talking with you.
On the subject of building a 44XS powerhead from parts, I'd like to offer that I'd be happy to help anyone who needs it with a
grocery list of what you need in order to build the equivalent of the original factory race motor powerhead.
Even the original factory motors have had some parts updates, such as two ring, keystone ring pistons, a different exhaust cover and a different port cover. I have the part numbers for those items, which I'll share. These parts were used on the last of the 44's up through 1997, and are available new. Also, we have a good machinist who will blueprint ports to the 2000 spec. for under $100. Whether you like blueprinting or not, its approved, and I think it gives a degree of parity; every block is a good block for less than $100. The machinist I use for my 44XS blueprinting and boring is Jim Ruck, 920-233-3833. Tell him I sent you.
I'd like to get more drivers in the D classes, and I think that's more likely if they can find or build competitive motors. I'm not looking for any new work, and I don't plan to do this forever, so if we can help get these guys equipped to help themselves, I think that'd be a good thing. No reason they should need to re-invent what we already know...
Cheers.
This is from Jerry Wienandt. I had called to Discuss the 44 Rules that are being proposed in Atlanta...
