Boat Racing doesn't have a Sturgess, but I see DePue as becoming the "STURGESS" of Outboard Racing...

Seems there is a ball park where people can park their RV's and show their sutff... The ball park is one block from the race course...

I'm thinking of having a National Championship Horseshoe Tournament to go with this Reunion....Seems we could have like a Pro-Am Tournament....We could find out if Billy Seebold could throw horseshoes.....

Ain't sure we want a karaoke (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=karaoke&spell=1) Contest...but I do do a great Johnny Cash, Ira Hayes....!!

Silent auctons at the bank...dinner at the VFW...Corn on the cob.....Karaoke, horse shoes....Hell, a man might not need to die and go to heaven, all he'd have to do is go to DePue...

Rumors are there are motels in Iowa, that can cover the crowd...

ADD; When you eat that DePue corn, be sure to chew it well!!!

Sturgis, SD

I looked on Google, and there was a Sturgess, North Dakota....

My close fraternity brother, who was killed in Vietnam, lived in Minot, ND....Guess I got confused...

I checked, Google, thinking it was South Dakota...

Anyway, DEPUE is our MECCA, man!!! (Old Peter Fonda movies line, I think..... When he'd found his stolen motorcycle's locations... They said, Mecca man, Mecca.... Then, Peter said where's Mecca??? -Mecca, Cailfornia)...

See you at DePue, 2007.

Thanks for the correction pobody is nerfect.

I didnt mean anything mean by it. Just when you think of sturgess you think of Harley Davidson is all. Didnt mean anything bad by it! By the way I heard a cool story about a prop you made back in the day for Jon Guimond(Spelling) of Kankakee! I have know those guys in Kankakee for along time and he was telling us a cool story how everyone was running 2 blade props on a certain boat and he had you make or you made a 3 blade for he and he went like a bat out of hell for him! On a other note the blue boat you have for sale what is the make of that hull wish it was closer I think I would buy it!

Sometimes, thruth HURTS...

I have lots of COOL PROP STORIES....some actually have good ending like your story!!!

Sold the Blue Angel and will be taking it to Utah in mid March...

It really is agood looking boat...and light enough to make a good Sport C...and FAST FAT C.

ADD PROP STORIES: You seldom hear from a customer that the prop worked well.... Not long ago a guy called said the PROP WORKED GREAT.....and I said WELL WHAT's wrong with it? He said, "NOTHING." I said, "Why you calling me? No one calls unless the prop doesn't work..."

He got a big laugh out of it....Then added, I guess that's true...I said, "After 40 years years in the business, trust me, it is true...The Lister brothers won C Hydro like three years in a row, and then got mad at me because I couldn't make a better prop for them....C Hydro then and now was about the toughest class in the country to win in....Oh well, things go along like this, then they get worse....

Some haven't been to places like mission bay, Ecorse, wyandotte ,Rouge, where every year summer fest's were the norm' , hopefully back to basics.

Richard,

Ecorse has a memory other than the turds floating in the river ? That is what I can remember about Ecorse.... Oh my, what a place.... I was a little kid then, and the pier we stood on to watch the races had turds floating around. Dad flipped his 25MH there and We still tease him to this day that he might have swallowed a turd.... hehehehehehe.

Ecorse... I still go by that place now and again on I 94, never actually get off and take a look at the old race site, but the sign is still there for the Ecorse exit....

Ecorse....... you got me laughing again. Ecorse is right near Detroit off I 94 on the river. I imagine they have it cleaned up by now, but back then....

Arnld had a business called Arnold's Rug. He never sold HIS rug because he like HIS rug...I sometimes feel that way about boats. Seeing The Blue Angel here, I wish I hadn't sold it....BUT, I know we need to get equipment out into the FIELD...

Thanks for posting....I'll be exchanging The Blue Angel for The Red Boat AKA The Red Dog....Bill Curtis has done a wonderful job of rigging...

Dave , it wasn't anything like that in 1950s , actually into the 70s , as far as those T'd things you mention , i didn't see much of that on my last trip to Mi. till i headed west toward Kellog country.

Rest assured, it is much cleaner now. Still not in a good neighborhood to be at after dark, but they have cleaned up most of the rivers in MI.

One fond memory of Ecorse, Leon Dragas pulling in with that old station wagon pulling his runabout rigged and race ready in. To shorten the story, he went out and was kicking butt only to be DQ'ed. He also broke a Federal Law.... hehehehe, a flock of those dam seagulls got in his way...... :D As any true racer with passion will do, he did not slow down ! I guess the Fed's saw it and ticketed him. For such a nasty place when I was there as a kid I have a lot of memories of that place. Maybe it was the odd things that happened there that keeps it so much alive in my memory. Thanks for stirring those up !! See you at the races this summer Mr. Weighmaster !!
