Is the jet drive your using a stock OMC unit ?? How tall will the motor be? It will probably slide around a turn nice

not real sure of the question about the stock omc unit. the jet is made by outboard jets in california.you might have already known that though. I'll get some pictures of my pump, I'm polishing the inside of the pump and getting it to the powder coater but it'll be a beforfe and after picture. The transom length on that boat is 27". the motor will run a 20" shaft. don't know the overal motor height from botom of shoe to top of flywheel but I'd say it's about 3 1/2-4 ft total. ohh yea it slides, it's like drivin on ice, thres no breaks, and you can't up or downshift to control your speed......I loooveeee it:D

Exxxcellent! I always liked the slide under power rush ,,I can get my runnabout to sorta partially cavitate and slide but if pushed too hard funny things start happin en  :D

it get to slidin prety ratical someitmes but my motto is if you can't drive what you have down the river wide open you don't need it, that makes some pretty good slides sometimes but it's fun.

heres pictures of the pump I'm using and I'll put another picture of one on a boat that's arleady done. the third is the fastest outbaord jet I know. It's runin 57mph. that boat usually finishes second to a v6 at the races every year, it's bad.

Have you modified your pump? Seems the jet boats with car motors, modify their pumps a ton and gain much...

Are you racing? Trying to sell boats? Or just having fun?

How did you come up with this design?

goals,

in the nations scenic riverways there is a 40 hp limit. they allow the 60 hp motors to run with a jet because of the cut down power of jet unit. the goal is be the fastest, and everyone has to start at the same equal point. it makes for some fun compition and some great engineering ideas. All Throtle, No Bottle is the motto. the man that runs the fastest is GW. he has a 60 hp omc. that will flat scoot. hes done everything i know to do to one and even more. i would love to see one of his motos compete against some of the prop motors in the racing circuts.

As river_rat just said we all have to start out with the same platform, so it does make for some good ideas and a lot of good competition. however the fastest guy has monopolized it because he's done a lot more experimenting and can afford to do it. after he's proven it he's made a business out of his motors, and unless he builds the motor it's hard to compete with his motors. he's a great engine builder and it really comes out in his motors. it's great because it's pushed up a 3 cylinder jet so much but it's also hurting a lot of racing because a lot of people say why bother he's just going to clean up again. My goal with my boat is to just build a fast running riding boat that I can race in too. The only modifications I have made to my pump are that I'm polishing the inside and I've cut the brace out ,saves a little weight and makes it easier to polish. another problem with workin on jets, it's hard to get a lot of tools into the jet so you have to make your own. I have some more ideas for modifying the pump but I need a few cheap pumps to test them on before trying it on a good one.

The boats were desighned around 2000. blazerjetboats in ellington missouri www.blazerjetboats.com desighned the boat with the raised rake compared to the conventional flat raked jon boats. legend craft boats builds a boat called an exterminator that competes with blazer sport jet boats. Blazer made the desighn and legendrcraft ( www.legendcraft.com tweaked it a little more. the idea came up to make them out of .063 gague aluminum as compared to .080. The problem with a solid 63 is that the metal is to thin on the bottom and ripples with the water therefore slowing you down. with 63 sides and 80 botom and transom you get the saved weight on the sides and braces but still the strength on the transom and bottoms. these boats are a ton of fun to fly down small rivers in 4 inches of water in. I wish there were more people in the nation that knew about them and ran them so there could be some more high performance and some more attention paid to them. I'll post some pictures of these types of boats later.

well heres a question, a lot of you guys know how to get clubs, classes and races started and get people interested. anyone think it would be possible to get a class or club started with jet's especially small outboard jets. any input or help on how to get something like this started or organized, or just tips and how to go about it would be appreciated.

alright been workin on the boat some more. got it back from uphoustry shop, had a deck pad and seats made, helped set off the looks really well. got it flipped upside down in the garage buffing and polishing the bottom, just to help it slide a lil better and kill some time. waitin on a steering consoule and a motor. leme know what yall think bout the pics.

I like the way it is trimmed under to get the water directly into the jet pump.

Let us know how it handles and what you see on a GPS...

Has anyone touched the impeller?? I used to modify jet impellers all the time...it helped a lot, actually, but have never touched an outboard impeller...

Thanks for sharing your project.

iwanajohnson
06-22-2007, 06:16 AM
yea, the impeller has been completley sanded down and polished, then painted over. worked on the edges to make it cut better and change the pitch a little bit. what kinda stuff did ya do to inboard jet impllers to help?got a few ideas for some mods. if ya wanna know em I'll send a pm and see what ya think, but would be interested on info on how inboard impellers are modified. fixin to take it to the river later on today. hopin to get tach and gps readings. I'll keep puttin info as I get it. glad ya like it thanks.

some things to try, try it with the timin pinned against the stop, at 21deg.
you may be able to push more timin, i'm not sayin you can for sure.
check the Burn ,check the Burn.
that should help with big vac drop when you put the spers to her,

try bringin in some choke if she stumbles on accell, if she recovers when ya bump the choke, she needs mo gas, if she stumbles harder, she wants less.

lowspeed jet never stops pullin, the total top end burn is the outcome of the
low and high speed jets.

no need to crank the carb screws, the Oring makes the seal.

I couldne't get the holeshot I needed so I didn't take my boat. spun a pump bearing 2 weeks later so fixin that. the omc's did real good but a 250 xs merc was bout quarter boat from takin the crown. The bare hull would run you about 2500.oo for a bare hull nothing in it. prolly about 2300 not positive. price of metal changes so much that prics go up and down a benjamine or two every month or so. leme know if ya need ne more information.

Man you did a GREAT job on that project!! Congrats!!

I have one I have been working on but I am mainly using mine for chasing little brown and green fish.:D I have been putting together a 1440 Alumaweld (Xpress) with a 40/28 Evinrude. I call the engine the "Johnny Cash Edition". The tiller handle was white, the cowling was silver/blue, the midsection was gold, and the pump was red. Anyway I got the engine painted and did a little work to the outside of the pump. This is the first one I have ever had that didnt have welds on the pump housing so I figured I would polish it. I havent dont hardly anything to the boat yet, but I will get to that this winter. I also have an old race boat I am working on so with 2 boat projects and 2 full time jobs, I dont get to work on either one as much as I would like to, but I will get them done.

I am going to run it for the first time in the morning. :)

That is probably one of the best polished pumps I've ever saw. how did you get it done so good? My winter projects are gonna go like this.
1. .030 over rebuild and bore job for the power head
2. gonna try some port and exhaust work.
3. polish the pump inside and out, polished the inside last year but it could use a touch up.
4. stripping everhting outa the inside of the boat, puttin some sort of rhino lining or rubberized lining on the inside. some graphics for the outsid of the boat, and a perf. aluminum floor put in it. The motors goin solid black with a pretty cool hood I've laready had painted. and I'd like to polish alll the little pieces that aren't painted. I need some more stuff to look forward to to make it really itneresting though. ne ideas>???

marty92xrd

Thanks for the compliment on the pump!!! I started off with aircraft paint stripper and a pressure washer (after tearing it all down). That did a GREAT job at getting the red paint off, even in the rough casting marks. I then bead blasted everything. Then I went through alot of 3M Scotch Loc buffing pads on a die to kinda smooth out the sand casting marks. Then, I wet sanded everything starting out with 400 and worked my way up to 1000 grit. The final step was to polish it out with a polish called "The Intimidator". It is by far the best aluminum polish I have ever used.

I have kinda slacked off of working on the boat lately. I have been too busy working on my other project boat and just working too many hours to get anything done on either boat.:o Hopefully by this spring I will have the boat like I want it, then I will start back playing with the motor some.

Do you have a source to where I can buy some of the perforated floor at? Is the only place through Ernie's?

Considering I know where these impellers are made......Why not contact the Jet Factory about your project and ask for a free impeller...Then, I'll rework it and maybe we can gave some speed....

In fact, ask them if you could get a stainless impeller...I'm sure I could improve the pump performance....as I've done many a jet (Berkeley Pump) in my thousand years of working on stuff...

How fast is this "SUCKER" going???? I need to revive my BRF Speed Records....

Ron, stainless impellers (4blades made by Wooldridge Boats) in outboard jets smaller than 60hp actually give no improved performance, believe it or not. Been there, done that. The stainless impellers make a noticeable performance gain in the 115 and above motors though...........that 4th blade pulls the boat out of the hole much better, just like a 4 blade propeller.

I think the impeller that those guys in San Leandro use is made of zinc...I'd get the foundry, with their approval, to cast one is stainless, thin the vains, sharpen them weld a cup on them.....

Who knows, maybe slow it down!!!

Woolbridge makes after marker impellers???? Hmm...Could be intersting.....

ya, you are right about the stock 3 blade impellers (of course). Maybe you could get a few of them cast in stainless.

yep, Wooldridge Boats of Seattle has been making aftermarket 4 blade stainless impellers (around $450) for a long time now (20 years).........almost all the fishin' guides have them in their pumps.........

hey ron need to talk to ya about modifyin one of these impellars to see what it would do and what ya gotta do to them. marty, earnies isn't the only place to the the perf alum. Theres a place in springfield, mo that's a metal supply place they cary it. I think that a metal supply place could probably get it for ya closer to where you are. I've got my boat ambition back about me, kinda lost intrest for a while. went from checkin this site from 5 times a day to maby once a month or so. gott the little hampster wheel turnin on my next project. lookin to sell my boat and start on another tripple. got a few ideas to try, ask more if ya really wanna know. I gotta get a pump that shiny though. marty I don't know if I can do it but you've inspired me to try it. need it lookin like that inside and out hmmmmm that's a lota sandin. we've got one 3 cyl and one 2 cyl project goin right now. ones just like marty's. marty what kinda jack plate you got your motor on? I'm back in business guys get ready for some crazy ideas.;)

marty what year is that motor. It looks like an early 80's model?

marty92xrd
12-20-2007, 08:52 AM
The powerhead is an 87 model. The midsection is late 70's to early 80's I believe. I think there is about 5 different year models on my engine.LOL!! It runs pretty good, I just need to play with the set up some more and work the bottom of the boat over pretty good. It runs as well if not better than the 50 Yammy I had, and I havent done anything to the engine yet.

Just have patience when you start polishing the pump. Thats the best advice I can give you. Get plenty of Roloc pads for the die grinder, start with the coarse one and then go over it with the medium one. Then go over it with a DA sander, then wet sand, then polish.

I have checked with some of my local metal fab shops and they have no idea on where to get the perf. floor. We are fixing to have Legend build us a boat similar to the Xterminator for our next demo at the dealership I work at. Thinking about a 1752 with a 90/65 Merc (2 stroke). Should be a fun project.:D

I am coming up to Potosi, MO next summer and bringing my jet boat with me. I have a friend that lives there and is real good friends with Joe Troutt and he wants me to come up and go fishing with them. We need to try to get together when I get up there, I would love to check your boat out!!

marty92xrd
12-20-2007, 08:57 AM
Oh yeah, the jackplate came from Outbaord Jets, and I HATE it!! It works good as far as the way the boat handles and all, I just dont like the mechanics of it. It is a NIGHTMARE to adjust it!!! The main reason I put it on there was so I could still use my 25 prop motor for a LONG trip down the Mississippi River we have planned. I am going to have to get some good fuel mileage and thats just something a jet doesnt do. LOL
