I have a hydro that Im working on, I think it is a bunky. What is it about one that makes you want it? mine has some previous damage, some repaired well some not. the worst is it has house paint on it.

I have two Bunky hydros. One is average condition that I ran a Y302 on. The other is immaculate and beautiful that was set up for 25XS. It has very little run time on it. Email me if you want pictures. mac19f@hotmail.com

Bunky's fly over the water, they are a great handling boat. I had a DSH outfit that flew, it looked very similar to Tim Small's 125cch. The majority of hydro's out there today are transom riders, very similiar to a runabout. The bunky literally flies about 3 inches over the water, the ride takes a bit of getting use too. The angle of attack, the leading edge of the ram wing (delta wing shape), the placement of the point of attack, these are a few things that make these boats standout from others.

Cool, thats good to hear, Any setup tips?? Is tha angle of attack closer to parallel to H2O than a transom rider?

Yes We have a DSH Bunky that is hard to beat when set up right, deep traps and hard to learn to turn it but once you do it will go around like it is on rails. It was also the basis for the new design in the 2nd pic.

Regards,
Ive heard to be careful getting used to it, the one Im re-doing has evidence of a driver or two goin swimming.

The only time I went in the drink with this boat was at Sault. St. Marie, Ont. I pulled the kill switch in the chute and got it reconnected before the motor died and then dove hard into the corner to try and get on the inside and went in a little too hard and it spun around on me. It through me out but the boat stayed upright, but the damage of the split cockpit seam was done. But with that boat in the pic if you try to turn before coming out of it to let it set you will dump every time. It just takes a second to let off and right back on and then she will do anything you want, you just have to let it exhaust a little.

Thanks Dave, My other hydro is very forgiving but seems to work best with a quick off then back on turning too. My bunky is for 20SS I think. Im goin to get used to it with a Mk25 on an H 1st.. nice n lite.

Yes Bunky Bowerman is in Florida, I don't know where he is at the moment. He also built offshores too, cougars to be exact. That is a whole other story. Getting back to the hydro, the motor has to be kicked under, start at one sixteenth and work your way down in one thirtysecond increments, this generates rear lift. Where is the point of attack on your boat? It should be right at the back of the sponsons, you only need to lean forward or back over the rocker to manipulate these boats.

Ist, I appreciate the input from you and Dave, Thanks,, you could go pretty far without finding a boats sweet spot at my experience level. My Bunkys at a pals [dry] too far for me to see much. When it goes in Ill have an idea of what it will be like. I hope you find the one your lookin for, I feel lucky to have gotten mine and I gotta say these have that goin like crazy sittin still look

The boat in that pic, If I recall I had it setup a 1/4 - 3/8 below and kicked in a 1/4" for that prop it worked the best. It is hard to see but there will 5-6" rollers that day and raining. I tested that boat 8hrs a day for 6 or 7 weekends. Yes you can move your body, I have always said that your bucket with your head in it weighs 15 lbs. The speed there was 82 on Radar.
