New Mercury Racing HP600 SCi Sterndrive

Los Angeles, Ca. - Mercury Racing introduced the all-new HP600 SCi sterndrive engine Saturday, January 29, at the opening of the Los Angeles Boat Show. Manufacturing is ramping up production now to meet an unusually strong demand for this highly anticipated replacement for the popular 575 SCi engine package.
The 600SCi achieves impeccable dock manners and thrilling throttle response with a “clean-sheet” induction system design. Some of the key features contributing to the awesome drivability are active torque management, sequential port fuel injection, individual coil ignition, a roller camshaft and dedicated PCM control strategies.
The only thing the 600 SCi has in common with the 575 SCi is the CNC machined 502 cubic inch cylinder block. Every component was meticulously engineered ensuring the new engine “raises the bar” for combining shear performance with uncompromised drivability and the durability to stand behind a full-year warranty.
A custom intake manifold is the heart of Mercury Racing’s designed induction system. It houses an internally o-ring flange sealed intercooler. The intercooler is made of copper-nickel alloy called "CuproNickel" for excellent corrosion resistance. Boost bypass is achieved via an internal cast passage. The intake also features port fuel injection and a fuel cross over passage which eliminates tee fittings by routing fuel to both port and starboard fuel rails for enhanced engine aesthetics.
A new induction hardened, micro-alloy crankshaft features larger journal radii for enhanced strength and durability. Fuel economy is enhanced thanks to new pistons developed exclusively for the 600 SCi. Connecting rods are longer and feature a floating wrist pin.
Like its 525 EFI and 1075 SCi siblings, the 600 SCi comes equipped with the Mercury exclusive Propulsion Control Module (PCM) 03 microprocessor. Combining the powerful engine management computer with a 3.3 Liter Lysholm screw type supercharger, roller camshaft, and sequential fuel injection results in impeccable idle quality, instant throttle response and unmatched performance throughout the 4800-5200 rpm rated engine operating range. The 600 SCi’s use of new PCM idle speed control strategies give ultra-smooth shifting for the Bravo XR drive.
The PCM 03 computer also enables individual cylinder control. This ability to optimize fuel, spark timing and knock control independently for each cylinder enhances engine running quality, performance, fuel economy, and durability.
Higher fuel pressure demands are met with a new electric fuel pump. The engine is also equipped with fuel cooling and a mechanical pump to combat vapor lock. To improve packaging and reduce fuel connections, a custom billet aluminum housing was created to accommodate the fuel pressure regulator and water separating fuel filter.
Supercharger boost is variable. A boost bypass control valve, electronically activated by the PCM 03 microprocessor, continuously adjusts the amount of boost needed to provide consistent horsepower. Under optimum ambient conditions, the boost bypass control valve will open to adjust for the lower boost required to obtain 600 crankshaft horsepower. The PCM 03 controller closes the bypass control valve, to provide active torque management throughout the engine operating rpm range and additional boost required to maintain a consistent 600 horsepower when operating in sub-optimal running conditions and limited higher altitude environments. The 600 SCi’s ability to provide a consistent horsepower in any condition or locale eliminates the hassle of re-propping the boat to match conditions.
The 600 SCi comes equipped with the digital SmartCraft Controller Area Network (CAN) system, a network of sensors that proactively monitor engine functions. The next wave in boating, SmartCraft Integrated Marine Technology from Mercury links power, controls and internal and external sensors to provide precise data on all boat functions at a glance. The system monitors a variety of vital engine functions including fuel flow, fuel range, fuel used, and RPM, along with water depth, trim angle, water pressure and battery voltage.
A 14-pin Deutsch connector on engine harness enables ignition functions and SmartCraft functions to be incorporated into one boat harness, saving rigging time.
The PCM 03 also drives the exclusive Engine GuardianTM System. Engine Guardian monitors engine functions to forewarn of possible problems that could lead to engine damage. This “smart” technology not only detects and alerts the boater of a problem; it processes the data and reduces power to a maximum, safe level that allows the boater to continue operation. Engine Guardian also has the ability to proactively help prevent engine overheating by sensing not only engine temperature but cooling water pressure as well. By sensing water pressure, and temperature, the system can provide advanced warning to the PCM 03 control module, which then reduces engine power before temperature related engine damage takes place.
Like the 525 EFI, the 600 SCi features a factory installed closed-cooling system. Five-year coolant increases corrosion protection, reducing maintenance costs and hassle. The system cools the entire engine cylinder block and aluminum cylinder heads. New “cool collar” Sweeper Headers feature a new alloy for enhanced saltwater corrosion resistance and durability. A multipoint manual water drain system makes winterizing easier.
The 600SCi is the second engine to be accredited by Mercury Racing’s T.E.A.M. (Total Engine Application Management) initiative. The standardized TEAM process ensures proper installation of the engine with factory specified components, providing maximum performance along with unmatched quality and durability. The 600 SCi will only be sold to OEM boat builders and dealers who agree to the terms of the TEAM accreditation process.

2006 600 SCi Key Features

Lysholm 3.3Liter screw type supercharger featuring Mercury Racing’s front drive housing with integrated oil level sight glass.
The compressed charge air is evenly distributed via the adapter manifold before entering the intake manifold.
Custom designed high flow throttle body features twin 2.9 inch throttles and is integral to the boost bypass loop.
The intake manifold is the heart of Mercury Racing’s designed induction system. It houses an internally o-ring flange sealed intercooler. The intercooler is made of copper-nickel alloy called "CuproNickel" for excellent corrosion resistance.
A cast internal passage in the intake is used for the boost bypass loop. The intake also features port fuel injection and a fuel cross over passage which eliminates "tee" fittings by routing fuel to both port and starboard fuel rails for enhanced engine aesthetics.
The 600 SCi features active torque management via PCM’s electronic boost bypass control valve.
Higher fuel pressure demands are met with a new electric fuel pump. The engine is also equipped with fuel cooling and a

mechanical pump to combat vapor lock.
