We are getting a lot of very large avatars. The reason we allow large avatars is to allow the computer challenged to put up an image that can be used and have someone reduce it for them. :)

If you are able to, please reduce the size of your avatar to less than 250 X 250, preferably a little under 200 X 200, like 170 X 100 or so.

The reason for this is a courtesy to readers. Overly large avatars push the text and important images off to the right and down the page with less important repeated data.

The same thing goes for signature images. They can be very cool, but very large ones or too many get to be like an ad that is a nusance and reduce the appeal of BRF in general. (Signature images can be a little bigger than avatars, their placement doesn't cause the same disruption) I don't know of any signature images that are an issue at this time and I appreciate all those who have made an effort to help make BRF enjoyable to all.

Many discussion boards have avatar size restrictions much more strict than BRF ... we are pretty liberal with them and would like to keep it that way on a voluntary basis.

As always ... you can email me an image or post it to a thread here in the help section for me to crop & shrink if you don't know how and I can put it up as your avatar :)

Sam
Sometimes my camera (Pentax Optio M30) takes small pictures that I can post and sometimes it takes LARGE pictures I cant post. It is set on the small size I think (640X640) and I dont change anything about the settings. WHY?? does it change by its self?

Height and width are not the only restriction, there is also a maximum file size restriction ... sort of like a weight restriction in addition to height and width on shipping boxes

File size varies with contrast and brightness levels and the variation in the actual image. You can also vary the image quality to change the file size.

Most good digital cameras come with software to change the pictures that you take, but some of the software is a pain in the butt to learn how to use.
