A little preview...Jeff Lytle and Paul Christner's design.....Just a preview...
A Konig and a PR? How about a Looper? Looks like there is room on the left side for another motor. Maybe that's the right side. Depends on if we're looking at the front or the back

Just a preview Gene, there are 12 engines around the clock in total, and YES, there are loopers too. More to come.............

A different motor for every hour on the clock?
What a great idea! I love it.
Sorry, I jumped the gun.

Telepathy, from the Greek τῆλε, tele meaning "remote" and πάθεια, patheia meaning "to be effected by",[2], is a term used to describe the transfer of information on thoughts or feelings between individuals by means other than the five classical senses.
About 2 1/2 months ago, I gor a PM from Paul asking if I we could share some ideas and come up with a t shirt design for the upcoming Depue reunion. We exchanged phone numbers and came up with some initial ideas. Right from the start, it became apparent to me that Paul and have the same tastes, as we were both thinking the same things on what we thought the shirt design should be. I sketched down the ideas as we spoke on the phone as the thoughts evolved.
We shared alot of phone time together in the 20 plus hours it took me to come up with the images and work them into the design.
What you see here is the sketches and notes I took while speaking to Paul on the phone about the design (The 1st time! :D )
Jeff Lytle

With Paul on the phone, and Diane adding her words of encouragement in the background, each night, the design progressed. As I trimmed, cut, copied and pasted each new engine design onto the clock, Paul would get a copy. We would then alter and make changes as we both saw fit.
In the end, as the design was nearing completion, Paul was the one who mentioned to me how we both seemed to be on the same wavelength on each step of the project. It was Paul who mentioned that there was true telepathy between us, and I agreed. When the design was done, I added about 8 different background colors and sent them to him for his opinion. Guess what? We both picked the same one!
One day, I hope to meet him face to face so I can shake his hand. It was a pleasure doing this project with you Paul! :)
This is the work I completed, and it is now in the hands of the Ann Fitzgerald, the owner of http://www.speedwear.com/ who is doing the final artwork for the design.
Who wants one?

Hey Jeff,
Why don't you show everyone some of the other color options? There's a full rainbow of colors besides the pop green you and I both like so much. Actually, my 2nd color choice would be the signal yellow as that was Quincy Welding's team race color.
Looks like I'm going to need a bunch of these t-shirts. My brothers, nephews & close friends will all enjoy getting one.
Please show us the colors, Jeff.
thanks,
Paul

Brilliant work Jeff and Paul. And I want several. I got to thinking....after the reunion you two guys should start looking for a manufacturer to make it into a clock to hang on the wall.:D
I want to bring back 2 or 3 when I get to Depue. Just promise me you will spell 'inaugural' correctly. Thanks............

That will be changed ASAP......Thanx!!

Your going to need another shirt. Where's a pic of a boat?
A classic F-runabout with a 4-60 or Merc big 6 would be really cool too.
Tim
Jeff Lytle
05-06-2007, 10:15 AM
Well..........we thought of that, but there won't be another design--this is it.
We knew that there would be some who might say "There should be a hydro", or "there should be a runabout"..........Ok, which era of boat design do we use, and then which engine goes on the boats. To be accurate, the boat design should match the era, BUT WAIT!! MY Anzani was still faster than any Konig back then, Oh Yeah? I had a Crescent that could whip both of your butts!!
Do you get the picture of what "might" have happened? Paul and I felt that having a design with just engines has never been done before, and would work well.
I'm kind of surprised at the lack of commentary here. If you don't like it, let us know as well please!
After looking at the different backgrounds, it seems that the white background shows off the design best. If you are going to have different colored shirts, the colored background will be a waste of money. Save time, save money, save outboard racing! Looks good though. Thanks Jeff and Paul.............

I agree with the previous two replys. The white tee shirt makes the engines stand out and look more detailed and crisp.

Jeff and Paul - I like the "electric green" shirt best, but I would rather see the entire design printed as couple hits of a white base then overprinted in color, without the ragged outline. So that means the white shirt has to be my choice. Are you taking pre-orders as I want six Large. - Tim Chance

Here's the latest artwork from Ann with a few more engines added. Paul and I have decided that the lettering should change. Ann is going to move "The Time Of Our Lives!!" to the top, and keep the Depue thing down below. This way, the lettering can be made alot bigger too. :D Feedback please?

I think a few more of us jumped the gun the second heat thinking we needed white for a clean background. I get it now, and my opinion is that it reminds me of a master mechanic blueprinting his engine with loving care.:)

Ya'mean "Thirlby Green" right? :D
I'm with Tim. Seeing the design that way looks great. Hope you bring enough to Depue.

Make LOTS. Those are gonna sell like hotcakes.
I like Waynes idea of that design on a clock. I would love to have a couple clocks with that on it, maybe a few, one for the shop, for for home, one for work.
Sizes - I would suggest more XL and XXL. Lots of folks will buy these and sometimes folks might be slightly heavier the older they get. No offense meant guys and gals. I know at a lot of races we buy shirts at, the XL and XXL seem to sell out first and there are always small and medium left over. Since the shirts will most likley shrink, size up one.
Nice work on the design, that is awesome. Maybe next you guys can make something for Hallmark, a boat racing birthday card with noise ! How cool would that be !!
David Weaver

The shirts look awesome!!
If you are considering selling these at the Nationals (at the race site), please check with the DePue Men's Club. We do not wish to compete for T-Shirt sale with the Men's Club. The USTS does not sell shirts at the Nationals in order to avoid competing with the Men's Club.
Also, plese keep in mind that there is a nominal charge to attend these races. I am not sure if there is a daily charge or if a week long pass in available. All the proceeds go to support the event and the Men's Club.
Thanks in advance. I look forward to hearing more about the planned reunion activities.

Paul and Jeff,
Your design looks great, It really represents the history of Pro outboard racing. I'm sure everyone will want a few.

Here is the final designs from Ann. I like the 2nd one best with the flashy lettering...........Hope you all agree. I think the only thing I can see that might need a bit of improvement is the 2 banger Looper in the three o'clock position..........It looks a bit blue for my tastes, and the detail isn't quite as good (Excellent!) as the other engines. Other than that small issue, I think she has done a magnificent job!!:D :D :D
Looks good Jeff..........The flashy lettering does take away from the powerheads some though. The first one looks well balanced and nothing stands out more than anything else...........a total experience. The 3 o'clock 2 banger fits in with something I was told a long, long time ago when my Dad, Hap Mulvany, and I were up at 5th and State Street. Hap said that if I ever see a flathead with a little blue color in the aluminum, its because O. F. was melting Busch cans that week in the back of the shop. He always told me my Quincy's were made from recycled beer cans...........might explain the blue.
Steve Crabtree
05-09-2007, 09:30 PM
I agree with Charlie. The flashy lettering does take away from the engines and the clock. The top one looks well balanced with the black lettering at the top and I think the bottom lettering would look better if it were just plain red with no outlines. It"s a good looking tee shirt thats well layed out, I really like the art work. You guys have done a fantastic job on this project.
Original Looper 1
05-09-2007, 09:59 PM
I agree with Charley and Steve. The black lettering at the top looks better as it does not detract from the clock with the motors. I think the bottom lettering would look better in plain red.
As to the Looper at the 3 o'clock position, I noticed the blue too. Sometimes when we had our aluminum castings made, some of them would come in with a blue hue (we used 4 different foundries). I thought the ones with the blue cast hue were some of the best looking engines Quincy Welding ever produced. They are now the rarest engines for collectors to find. However, the one on the t-shirt is a little too blue, it should be more silver in color. It also needs the head bolts detail, as Jeff mentioned.
Overall, I am very impressed with the progress on the t-shirt design and with the teamwork of Jeff, Ron, and Ann with me on this project.
I want to thank all of you out there that have made such nice comments. Hopefully, the shirt will be completed soon & Ron can start taking orders. I want at least 10 shirts (and the number may go up as I show the design to more of my friends).
Perhaps a poster could be next. Then everyone could have their boat racing friends sign them at the reunion event. Wouldn't that look good hanging on your wall?
Wayne, I also love your idea of a clock. Ron???
thanks,
Paul A Christner

The design is SUPERB, but realistly, don't be giving me any of the CREDIT becasue I did NOTHING.....Jeff andd Paul with Ann's help did it all and I think it is BEECHIN MAN!!!
Now, I want to know what each engine is.....and all.
1. I remember the Champion Hot Rods.....Johnny Alden from Oakland, California had some very fast Hot Rods. Ted Johnson drove one of John Alden's. A side note here, Ted son played for the New England Patriots a few seasons back...retired now I think...Gary Johnson, Ted's brother, along with Erci Johnson make the OJ propellers for Master Craft....
Harry Bartolomei ran Champion Hot Rods when he frist started out...I know I'll miss that OLD MAN at DePue this summer....Harry was good for me and I was good for Harry... We made a good team...
2. O'Dea imported the Cresent, I know Dick O'Dea finished third in the John Ward Trophy Race, 1967, in Valleyfield, Canada. In UIM, 1967, the VC Konigs were legal....In APBA, only the four carb Konig (4 cyclinder) were legal....

How will orders for shirts be filled?
Will they be shipped to the buyer or delivered at DePue?
What will the cotton content be?
Some of us "Fat Boys" need to be concerned about shrinkage!
Finally, the question no one has asked; What's the price?

Talked with Joe Rome today...His thinking is much clearer than mine....But this is what I'm thinking.
As SOON as I order the shirts, I'll take orders:
$15 per shirt, per order, delivered in Depue. Add $8.00 for 1 to 3 shirts and I'll ship before DePue. (Jim thinks shipping would be extra work for me, which is true, but we, Broc, Chad and I do ship daily and I'm a "Packaging Whizzz.."

I have a first second and third year goal for MsKTDoodle. 1st, use race boat to bloster grades, and man what a year...Started at F's and D's. Held her out of Minden, and Copperopolis, and, used racing a sa vehicle to bolster study...She ends with a near 3.0 average...
Second year, work our sponsors for more$$$ and use her appearances to spark interest from new comers. 3rd year, work harder on race sites and value engineering the program with eventual pay outs.
Now, she has to gain her confidence back, which she will over time. And, sheeez gotta want it as bad as I've seen her want other things, which, she will.....
The reason I have no big fortune to make a small fortune in boat racing, is, that truck, several others, Caterpillar tractor, work comp, and illegal aliens....
Other than that, we are a money pump!

Order a DePue Reunion shirt and get a free Reunion poster...A thousnad poster are heavy enough to givbe a man a hernia, but I don't hafve to worry, I already had two...But to ship these posters to DePue, I'd bet they are going to cost more to ship than they are worth...
So, We'ver ordered 300 BRAT and CORN dinners, I may only take 300 posters....
Thanks to the many BRF people who have bought "T" shirts.. both for BRF and The DePue Reunion....

Thanks for creating the t-shirts that could bring others joyfulness
Planning on surprising my sister Joan Carter who carried Konigs in the pit for Bud. Joan & Marilyn wouldn’t like the noise. They could always get a couple of boys nearby willing to lift and hold the spitters. Heard Joan would yell for the boys from Wisconsin or John Winsler’s son for help.
Buds daughter’s had to have his boats sparkling clean and help him move the boats around. I would lend a hand cleaning and was his water girl.
The color green is superb and I liked paying with Pay Pal.
