The important number/letter is "Q" :) Not just KG7, because there were 3 versions of the KG7, the regular, the Q and the H :)

Q was the first racing tower for early 1950's runabouts to directly fit on transoms where the standard KG7 had been; the H came out a few years later, about 4 inches shorter for hydros, but was also used on runabouts because the lower center of gravity is beneficial to all boats.

Both were 1:1

In 1959 Merc came out with the 16:21 gear ratio to let the 20H's pull larger diameter props like the Champion Hot Rods

The tall KG7Q tower has been obsolete for racing since the mid 1950's due to the advantage offered by the shorter H tower. By shortening the driveshaft the foot could be used in current racing, but most racers prefer the 16:21 gears which represent 60% or more of the value of the foot.

These parts are of greatest value to collectors in the Antique Outboard Club or "cottage racers" who just play around a couple weekends a year on their local lake or pond ;)
