Would you PLEASE advertise this race with flyers or news releases. I have lived in this area [Bakersfield] for 4 years and the only way I know there is a boat race on Ming is the R 11 web site. One year I took my race boats to the Taft parade to let people know what was going on at Ming the next weekend and you could not believe the amount of people that didnt know there was anything going on in there area. Boat racing will not die unless the clubs kill it.

Could you please give me some media names ie: local papers, radio stations or whomever might use the press releases and I'll send out the press release.

Send it to me via a PM at rossdbos26@yahoo.com and I'll make sure to get it out.
Also, anything you would like to do locally to draw attention would be great. Heck anything is better than how it's been with maybe two kids in a car on the other side of the pits making out. Hopefully we can get some spectators.

Thanks,
Ross

Ross,

The last Bakersfield race I went to was a nightmare with regards to the patrol boat situation. I understand that the patrol crew does quite a bit of work for little pay and I am not taking anything away from them, they do a great job. The problem we had was: every time a boat was dead in the water we had to wait until the boat was brought to the beach at idle speed. This took valuable race time away from everyone, and the result was not allowing some people to get a chance to race Saturday. So the question I have is: What can we do to speed up the process of bring boats to the shore quicker? Boat races always have trouble staying with the schedule and it would be nice to have some ideas to keep the schedule a bit more on time. Don’t get me wrong in any way, this is not a complaint, just a plea for some ideas.

Chad:

What we have found to work is to have a small aluminum "kicker" boat dedicated to towing boats in. This allows the rescus boats to stay on the water.

They stay w/ a patrol boat, and the judges stand can relay a message to the tow boat.

This is one of the things we do that allow us to run 48 heats in 7 hours every year at Shadow cliffs.

It's obvious you have been away for a while but I'm glad to see you're finally coming back. Strange how it works, boat racing is like a fungus, just as you think you completely free of it it resurfaces and you're back in it.
At all SCSC races for that past 6 years we have had a least 2 - 3 patrols in addition to rescue to make sure that that program doesn't slow down in the event of incidents. I can't speak for our Sister Club's but I know that having 2-3 patrol boats set in strategic points in and around the course allows me the ability to determine whether or not a boat needs to be towed in immediately or pulled to the side or pulled to the infield because the next heat should already be in the water turned around. Show up to Bakersfield and you'll see.
Remember to Pre-Register as soon as the sanction is up.

I will post the link on www.scscracing.com, sst45.com and gnracing.org. Fill out the entry blank COMPLETELY and print it, sign it, and either mail it Ann Hoban or Fax it to her. If paying w/ MC/Visa go to www.scscracing.com and fill out the Credit Card Authorization form and print it, sign it and either fax it or mail it to Ann.
Thanks,
Ross
