I first met Grandpa Seebold in August 1966, at DePue, but had read his name since I knew how to read. When we met, he seemed to know me, like I knew him. I was in "AWE" and he gave me a business card. On the way home from DePue, I drove a few miles out of our way to drive through "Granite City, Illinois" to see Seebold's boat shop...It was smaller that I expected, but it was "SEEBOLD's Shop" it was closed at the time, but I took a picture of the shop because it was Bill Seebold's shop....

Everytime I ever saw Grandpa Seebold after that, which was more than a hundred times, he treated me as one of his best friends. We talked like we hadn't seen each other in years even if we'd seen each other the week before.

Over the years, I'd sent many customers to Big Bill as some called him, plus he did many wheels for me, also. Bob MacFarland, his son-in-law did much of his work and after Bob's death Grandpa backed off on doing a lot of prop work.

Bill was the first to "ROLL" the edges and use a "FULL DISH CUP" on Mercury wheels. Bills wheels were about 5 faster than Factory wheels, and until Mercury developed their cleaver, "SEEBOLD PROPS" and "FAST" were in the same sentence...

On my twin Jones, Like Johnny Woods may still have, my two blade Records were faster, but they'd break the gearcases...Seebold three blades were smoother and almost as fast...

I'd buy Mercury wheels from my dad (Mercury Dealer) have Seebold work them, then sell them to OMC...as they were faster than OMC's wheels......at the time.

Here is Molly Ballou's 17 Seebold....Classic Seebold "GRIND" on the leading edge...

Ron:

Even after the Henrich days at OMC, at least his first few years, dad always said if ya want to make an Evinrude run you need a Merc prop! I bought an of shore prop, 26" Elephant Ear that did not work as well as the 28" chopper and had it there to sell for a while. We ended up keeping it and i loaned it to some geniuos that did niot torque it down enough and he lost it on the bottom of the river, which had in that spot a muddy bottom.........Some fish got one hell of an expensive lure!

OK Ron, I'll one up ya on this one. So I went down to Biiy's to help him clean up down there. Keep in mind I'm restoring a T2X. Anyway, we're cleaning a pile of old props up and this "thing" catches my eye, I'm like what the hell is that. Billy's like oh that a wheel Dad made for my T2X, it punched like hell but it didn't go anywhere. Well sure it didn't it has 6 blades on it. So I told Billy I need that for the T2X I'm restoring, that needs to be hangin on the shaft, he agreed.

So what this is, is a 3 blade 17 that Grandpa put 3 blades in between. So I start looking at this thing closely and its a real nice job and it needed to be made pretty, so I send it down to Jerry G at Air Marine, told him to scan it, lets see how good grandpa was, then polish it. Those 6 blades are within 1/2 of a degree of rake within one another, and like a 1/4" of pitch. Jerry was like where did you get that, I said granpa made it, he couldn't believe how close it was.
