View Full Version : mod 50 front 1/2

got a 56 cu 3cyl. put a mod 50 front 1/2 with 1" 2 bbl carbs, reeds, and exhaust. motor has jet pump, and will not come out of the water. hole shots are poor. once on top end, runs good. any help to get more umph out of the hole.

some things to try, try it with the timin pinned against the stop, at 21deg.
you may be able to push more timin, i'm not sayin you can for sure.
check the Burn ,check the Burn.
that should help with big vac drop when you put the spers to her,

try bringin in some choke if she stumbles on accell, if she recovers when ya bump the choke, she needs mo gas, if she stumbles harder, she wants less.

lowspeed jet never stops pullin, the total top end burn is the outcome of the
low and high speed jets.

no need to crank the carb screws, the Oring makes the seal.

well, I don't know about more gas. heres how it was. didn't have a regulator at first. you had to turn it on with fast idle, turn the fast idle off, turn the fuel pump off to not flood it, then cram the gas and turn the fuel pump back on. after the regulator came into play, you mash the gas and the motor sounds like it's goin good but it's barely pushin the boat, then once the boat tops out on plane, it starts goin good. doggey bad out of the hole, could get jumped out of hole by stock motors, but once it's on top end it's all good from there. figure out the low end take off and it's all golden from there. I'm thinkin different exhaust for the jet probably, and some port work and fresh pistons to take care of all that gas would help a lot. think I'm right or need to do somethin else?

them carb jets was a hip shot, fat enuff not to burn down, but not to fat that she would not go. i think she is goin lean when you punch it, then the main nozzle comes in and fattins it up. check the burn, note timing. that stuffy pipe is The Pipe .:cool:

well, I'm ridin now but I wanna play with it a little, I just gotta get another motor to play with now. lookin for a split, sqare port 56ci omc. lookin for several motors but want that one to put the front half on.

what size jets were in those 2bbl carbs?

45's on the low side, 51c's on the high side.
