I have a 88 River racer with a strong 260 on it. I would like you to ask what kind of speeds this boat is capable of and the down side of it. The later models have deeper tunnels. Will this boat handle 115 MPH?

Up side...will probably do about 115 with a really good engine and proper set-up. Down side...will blow over and kill you if your not VERY careful with it.

Yeap that's what they keep telling me. Been in the 90's with it and it feels really stable. So it is capable of 115.

Thanks

It is no doubt a stable boat at 90 if set up properly, but everything changes above 100. I think the mirage was built by a guy names Collins(sp), who is married to BK here on the boards. Somebody else jump in, I'm always bad with names. Anyway, I'd get lots of advise from people who know the habits of that boat before trying to go that fast. Good luck.

Kevin Kraft races one in IHBA Drags 10sec @ 105mph or so. He has run over 125+. There are a bunch of guys on www.screamandfly.com that drag/run Mirages, a couple are in the 135+mph range. Fun and relatively safe boat up to a 100, after that you really need to know your boat/combo. The other website is FULL of Mirage guys/gals, BK and her husband post over there as well. Boatracingfacts.com is the BEST racing website online, screamandfly has the BEST volume of info, you need to read between the posts and take what you need... lots of good info mixed in with the bull...

good luck and have fun with it. I would search out BK and her husband, they can tell you anything you need to know!!!

I drag race mine and I've been 123 in it. Keep it flat, it doesn't like a lot of trim.

Thanks for the info. I'm not new to racing, just new to Mirage V-P. The motor I just had built is well capable of 115 MPH and I'm getting too old to blow one over. Done that in Hydroplanes many times in my younger years. I do notice if you trim to much it has a tendency to puff up.
I know Val and Brad could give me some good info but her PM box is full.
Thanks for the info and I'll use it.

I know what you mean. I raced this past weekend and half stuffed the right sponson once but was able to save it. And I still won the pass. The second time the down trim solenoid shorted I was all over the place. I've puffed mine a few times but was never "nervous" till that first one.
