After Pete and Don got together at the start, Brad Burklund got caught up in the mess, I have a couple more in this sequence and I'll post them as I get them resized

DePue has not been kind to Brad this year. He also got pitched at the Spring race. Brad and his family are as nice a people as you could ever hope to know and I hope that he does not get discouraged. Don got a little banged-up, but his boat will need some work before the next race. SOunds like Pete is on the mend already and I hope he can atleat come watch the next race or two.

Here is a sequence from another angle that Brendan Vishoot shot. Really hard to tell what happened. Glad to hear the Pete is on the mend already.

Did Pete Voss make a hard left or did he get hit from behind? As I watched from my perch at the VFW, I felt things happened quickly...as starts are important and they DO HAPPEN FAST...But I thought maybe Pete hit a CARP with his fin and the boat made a hard left. The top pictures looks like everyone had a lane...then all hell breaks loose. We saw carp jumping in front of the stands.

Love to see a replay of the whole thing. Just when I was thinking a REX HALL VRP 500 and me might be COOL!!!

Ron:

To set the record straight, there is no such thing as a "Rex Hall VRP 500". Rex sells the Rossi, and Steve Litzell sells the VRP.

Well, Rex would build me a VRP I'll bet, if I promised to race it...

Clearly a "SENIOR" issue here. I was quite impressed that Rex Hall had BRAND NEW ROSSI motors, in boxes, at the race.

When and where will the results be posted? And where can you find out which motors are winning what? Clearly some guys were faster than others...I know Johnson and Evinrudes win in K Pro!!!

Teri and you have to be proud of Lauren, she was SUPERB in K Pro. I'd like to like you for the Mid Slides, and the Tri Tip dinner....Maybe, before I post and get names and everything WRONG, you'd post a list of thanks for all who helped to make DePue very special to NEW and old racers alike...

Mud Slides??? Think I'll stick with "Skip and Go Nakeds"...

Rex Hall - GRM or Rossi's

Steve Litzell - VRP's and Konny's

500 runabout - A VRP ran out front, but a Konny won at the end of the day.

Ron, you can put a capsule in a 500cc runabout and run a Rex Hall VRP (of course Steve will sell it to Rex and there will be extra mark-up all around). It would probably be a decent ride in a straight line......maybe a Kilo boat....

Lauren drove very, very well...dont tell her I said so... Joe gets a lot of the credit for figuring out a great set-up that nobody was going to touch that weekend when combined with Lauren's starts.

The 500 runabout class was promising to be a breat taker. Remember thaqt Pete won the previous weekend in Constantine and was looking forward to giving Tony and Mike a run for their money. Also, Don Rusnak had a fairly new Konny on the back of his boat that sounded very good......The restart may have cost Tony a win in heat 2, but he would have had a DNF in the third heat and that would have shook up the points.

Watching from the VFW, I could see Lauren, she got on the throttle and it was like the first time I ran Harry Bartolomei's 500 C Runabout...I was having so much trouble hanging on, I couldn't look at the clock...

I was wishing I had a radio...as I was YELLING ..."Lauren back off, back off..."....Sad part, she back off late, still jumped but had the speed to win, as she proved the next to heats...

She seems to have the feel for running it "ALL HANGING OUT"....

How many more years can se she run K-Pro? PLEASE, JOE...List who all helped with your "REGION 11 DINNER"... Take a little time to thank them for me, if nothing else!!!

ADD; I mean, like Lauren squeezed that K Pro and I could almost hear her say, "Whoa...." Are you off to Moses Lake???

We really wanted to go, but LONG BEACH IS VERY BIG FOR US and no way could we get from Moses Lake back to SoCal...by Friday!!!! (Don't be sending Warren's good 45 whell back by Long Beach....)....LOL!!!!

My nephew has a good video of the accident. Hard to say what really happened but it looked like Don was going to be early for the start and slowed so not to jump the gun. The rest of the pack was clearly behind him and coming at full speed when the contact was made. Brian was on the inside of Don and was in the wrong place at the wrong time , he took quite a tumble. I will try to get the video and post it next week.

David, extra mark up on a VRP, for what?

Ron Hill
08-04-2007, 06:51 PM
I had said, "I'd like a Rex Hall VRP..." Joe Johnson pointed out Rex sells Rossi Engines...I said, "Rex would build me a VRP if I wanted one...." Someone added "At an EXTRA cost..."

Were the DePue Results ever posted???

No, the results have not been posted. Neither have the results from Constantine, a week earlier ... so I'm guessing it will be at least 2 more weeks before the full results are posted.:(

I guess I am not up to date. I figured that with today's technology that results would have been in by Tuesday morning---Wednesday at the latest. When I wrote stories for Powerboat I left with the results. The only changes would be something under protest. This is not to criticize those judges and scorers,, but I just figured results would have been already submitted by computer.

Mark75H
08-05-2007, 08:35 AM
They have been submitted to APBA by email, but the APBA web site displays results by individual racer, not by event. You could go to each racer and work it backwards, but that would take about a day.

If the scorer would simply "cc" the results to someone else, the results could be put up on one of the discussion boards. Title Series event results are posted to the Title Series web site as soon as they have time to do it: http://www.ustitleseries.org/results.php

The guys that raced at DePue probably know who won.

I had two calls after I left DePue to ask me who won? I said, "The only thing I know is that Lauren Johnson won two heats of K Pro, and that Amy Eldridge who won K Pro last year, and did the SUPER TV interview, didn't win, but her cousin did...." But see I wanted to know who won K Pro.

In C Service Runabout I know Tim Weber ran a fourth, a first and jumped in the final...

I knew Kevin Ladd won two heats of OSY 400 and from what I saw....wasn't allowed to run the thrid heat because...I would like to review THAT VIDEO!!!! (I spent most of my time at the VFW/Reunion and could only hear motor noise most of the time). But I could see the starting line very clearly.

PRO Outboard Racing is pretty much an insider sport and the insiders probably know who won...

I know Bruce Summer didn't get a top three in 250 Hydro, because he told us...

To me, what seemed FRUSTRATING was when boats were racing, they'd have X, F, B, R and C running in the same class... Then the next group would come out looking the same with X, N, F, V, T on them...Walking through the pits was more confusing...

Seems to me if you run 6-10 classes that the A boats would run together and the B boat together...I'm not sure a REAL spectsator cares if a boat comes from Oregon and has an R on it or if a boat comes from Washington and has an R on it. I thought Washington started with a W? And Hell anyone would know G is for Minnesota!!! Right? Or X is for Iowa???

I was watching 350 Runabout, most boats had X numbers...I was saying...Damn, them X runabouts are fast....Then, I remembered X was Iowa...

Things ain't changed since I was last at DePue, 1973, why would we want to change anything as "We have always done it this way..."????

ADD: The way I would do it....There would be a podium. Each class would have the top three's picture taken right after the race.....(Heats and inspection) and posted on a web site. But let's see...Ron Hill doesn't want to do it. APBA doesn't want to do it. I mean APBA has a office to run. U.S. Title Series is busy putting on the races...

Several of my students used to race BMX, Monday morning, at school, we'd download their picture (s), if they had a podium finish, and their current points....But you know, that's motor cycle racing....and they are different...

Last Add:

And if we go to DePue to run K Pro Next year, we probably will only care about K Pro. I won't be carrying a podium from California to take pictures of people I don't know...

Ron - I think this is a big plus at races. When we raced at DePue this spring in stock classes they had one set up for photo's. Chicago Paul who is helping APBA with stock class promotional ideas set this display up for the racers. It is a great tool for whoever wants to take advantage of it. Mrs. Allen took pics that weekend to send to APBA for future posting in the Propeller magazine. Parents had a chance to take thier own as well for their scrap books.

The results are sent to the website once Bruce and Shirley get home. We do have a podium ceremony on Sunday, the boxes are in my trailer. Wendy Eldredge who won KPH is Amy's sister not cousin. If you are not sure who won a class a good guess is Brandon Thirlby since he won 4 championships. If you check the HR website I believe there is a post on there with the top 3 or 4 in each class.

Sometimes our volunteers are a little slow at getting the results to the web sites to be posted. Shirley is sleeping about 12 hours a day trying to recover from 2 weeks on the road and 2 weeks of people asking "where did I finish". I've been thinking about getting her a pace maker and maybe I could get a remote control for it and a dial to "crank her up".

Seriously tho, we're doing the best we can and I'll ck. with her in the morning to see if she has sent the results to david and jared. I know the APBA paper work is done but that does'nt show up in the propellor for 6-8 weeks.

If anybody cares I was tied for 4th with Mike Schmidt and he was quicker so I ended up 5th. On to Dayton!

Bruce, I bet Shirley long ago sent the results and it is more likely that it is the guys doing the web site that are slow. That is why I suggest "cc'ing" the results to someone who can put it on one of the discussion forums; it only takes a few seconds to add an additional email address when sending the results to Detroit.

Will we be seeing the two of you at Lock Haven this year?

Hey, Bruce, you know I know everyone is doing their best...I mean...Hell...I just get a little "PISSY" thinking that all US members send good money to APBA HQ, and other than insurance and a Propeller Magazine, what does APBA DO FOR ME???

Maybe, HQ isn't supposed to do anything, but I think they SHOULD. If I'm not mistaken, HQ's budget is $500,000 a year....Would anyone actually know how this $500,000 is spent???

This maybe one of those "RUMORS" OK? But seems to ME THE US TITLE SERIES could take care of all PROP PPOINTS for APBA and Mike Wiendandt, as OPC Chairman, could keep track of OPC points and this is one job that could be eliminated at HQ!!!

Not pointing a finger at anyone, but the Propeller Magazine SHOULD BE ON LINE...The postage on that MAGAZINE ALONE would pay for all the Nationals that APBA Sanctions...I'd bet....

Hell, my "PIMPY" propeller business gives free repairs, sometimes...Free EXCANGES SOMETIMES....

WELL, NASCAR AIN'T PERFECT EITHER...AS I THOUGHT ROBBIE GORDON won yesterday.....I'm done watch NASCAR.....They've lost a supporter (A NASCAR FAN since 1970)... Does the 8 CAR on the pole pass the SMELL TEST???? You run faster after RAIN???? Cool air maybe!!! No rubber on the track!!!!

Anytime anyone wants, they can send the race info (in text form) to news@apba-racing.com - both pre race promos and post race results - and it will go up on the APBA site "NEWS" page within a few hours - even on most weekends and holidays.

We, the USTS, typically get results out quickly. But as Bruce said, we have all been gone for a couple of weeks and we sometime to unwind, unpack and catch-up. Turns out for many of us who travel thousands of miles each year to support racing that we actually have other things in life to attend to. Shirley does a good job of checking results before sending everything out. These results were availalbe this weekend, but I decided it would be more fun to lose golf balls with my wife and friends rather than transpose the results.

I will post top 3's or 5's tonight.

I just wrote an article for Constantine and we will get it put to the public soon. Next I will work on DePue. These are articles that are intended for several publications, so I hope to get them right the first time. Would have gotten this done earlier, but drive all night Sunday/Monday to get back to work in order to close a deal. Had no energy to deal with results and write-ups.

If a class is the 250cc hydro, what difference does the boat number make? It seems to make sense that 250cc Hydro's would be on the water for the 250cc class. So long as the scorers can see it and Ray can see it, well it seems to work fine.

The USTS is not offering to track all US PRO points. There are other PRO races besides the USTS and tracking points is APBA's job. The Constantine points were posted last week on APBA's web-site.

As I have said elsewhere, there a lot of good ideas here and the USTS is always looking for productive, cooperative volunteers. Those of you willing to step-up, please let me know what you would like to do for us at Dayton or Raleigh. And thanks in advance for your help!! For the others....well, we will get to your comments/complaints when we solve all the other world's problems in order.:D

Sam--
Good point but all the results are mailed[usps] to Detroit. Shirley NEVER gets on any of the racing forums. I'll show her things she might be interested in. Would love to make Loch Haven but Dayton is the following weekend and with me towing the rescue boat I don't think we'll make it.

Ron--
Your right on about APBA. We do all our own point tabulating and all the other stuff and basically all we get from APBA is insurance which we could purchase ourselves. We have talked about going on our own but I don't think it'll ever happen.

Miss BK--
Thats a good point. I didn't realize APBA [web site] was that efficient. Maybe that would be the way to go. Is that posted in the News section of the APBA web site?

Thanks all,
Bruce

I don't want to ever leave APBA, but I want to cut the HQ over head, if possible. I want to see HQ being more of a "Partner" with various races, LIKE NATIONALS...

Dave, at the Needles Golf Course, they just let OLD PEOPLE take a bucket of balls from the driving range, they know we'll need them!

Thanks all,
Bruce

Yes, I'm the one who posts to the "NEWS" page on the APBA site. I dont have access to any other parts of the site, but can post in the "NEWS" section and also create the E-alert Newsletter which goes to all current APBA members.

What most members don't realize is that I'm not located at the APBA HQ in Detroit. I'm in Indiana, so the info must be sent to news@apba-racing.com directly. If you send your stories & results to PROPELLER, then it will most likely be used for the Mag in Detroit, and not appear on the NEWS page.

For stories you want to see appear on the NEWS page, send those directly to:
news@apba-racing.com

I've received several things to post this morning already - ChampBoat and a write up for the OPC Nationals (which came in a spreadsheet format I cant use, so has to be reworked). I've also got pics from Powerboat Superleague to post but I'm still working on those.

(NOTE: Pictures take a LOT longer to post up, since they have to be cropped and edited, then uploaded offsite first, then HTML coded to make them "appear" on the NEWS page. There's no program or template for photos on that page, and only 10-12 images can be used per article to avoid problems loading the page for viewers. I use old fashioned guess-work and hand-coded manipulation to make them appear inside a "text only" template - its pretty tricky and VERY time consuming, but in the end, it works!)

Here is the link to the NEWS page, which you can get to from the home page:
http://www.apba-racing.com/apps/news/index.php

For recently posted News articles, you may have to refresh the page by clicking the "SEARCH" button on the top.

Now I'm off to work!

We've been friends for what 40 years??? Well, 30....Why don't we (I) make a THREAD FOR APBA and you can post this info with a sticky....as when I read it, I know I won't go looking for it under 500 runabout...

I'll get Broc on that plan TOMORROW...Maybe, today...Off to the broach house myself....or I might lose my inboard customers that I have promised props to....

FYI: BK used to live in Kingman, AZ.... When she was about 3, she used to go to the races with her late brother Mike Longwell...

Miss BK

Great idea! Most Sunday nights and Monday mornings I'm usually waiting for info from the weekend. I know how anxious people get when they haven't found anything on the past weekend's races..... including me ;)

The cool thing about the APBA NEWS page, is that we've got all categories checking for info there, so,for instance, a report about the OPC nationals will be read by Offshore members too - maybe some offshore guys near Kankakee didn't even know there was a race nearby until they got saw it on the NEWS and will come to check it out. Same with other categories.

Having specialized sites are good too, but that cross-over is also good for the sport.

Send it and I'll post it!
