I have a question about scoring for those who can enlighten me.

KT ran two races where she placed this year.

In J class, APBA scoring roster has her as 2nd for Chowchilla....On Saturday, she did not finish, but, the other boats jumped. Sunday she won both heats....So, if the other boats jumped Saturday, and she won twice sunday, would this not be classed as 1st???? Cause that's the award she got....

I'm confuzzled...I'm not griping at all. Just trying to make sense of how it werks....

I've got a guess for you, but this may make you even more confused...

The trophy is probably based on all 4 heats, both Sat & Sun combined.
APBA results are separate for each day. To get the details you can email HQ from the APBA site. They are very helpful.

Sounds like they run it the way we run K Pro hydro. We run 2heats on sat and 2 heats on sun and its scored as one race.

Bruce:

Ok, i get it, but if all 4 heats are run as one race, and out of 2 of those heats every boat running jumped, except KT, whose boat puked in the milling lap, and Sunday, everyones off to a good start, and she wins 2, it would be as though 2 races were never run, as those who jumped, jumped....I.E. did not race.... Right????
I'm more confuzzledid than ever now!

It's not really clear to me as presented at this point, and I never raced any events other than UIM that scored on a four heat, count the best three basis. From what I understand, the first day all but KT jumped each heat, and she DNF'd both heats. (I seem to miss details on one heat on Sat.) But in that case....if KT won both heats Sunday, and there were no points awarded from either heat Saturday, then KT has 800 points and no one has more. So she is the winner. It could be that in one of the heats on Sat. they did not score all the boats as jumping the gun. That could account for the point descrepancy.

Wayne ya got it...And add....She is listed as a second place for that weekend on the APBA website....Unless my blonde hairs are really stiring the pot here.....

Are they really blonde Skoontz....or are maybe are they pushing grey?;) :D I want to hear what Russ Hill has to say about the picante sauce at Long Beach.:D

Don't give it up. I would like to hear if its misunderstanding of any sort of what happened. I have seen scorers errors before when so many jumped at once and they were going so fast that they counted who came around first to toss out. It is a tough job being scorer and they have to make instant decisions to keep the show going, so its best not to be hard on them, but sometimes paper errors are made.

Bill, two seperate races one Saturday and one Sunday, two heats each day. who gets 1st,2nd,3rd etc is by points earned by order of finish. If a tie in points occurs then it is by time. Gun jumpers do not earn points and are scored as BG. (Beat Gun). Kay and I were not there so the question should be ask of Jean McKay the scorer. She will be at Moses Lake. Kay and I are in Klamath Falls and will visit Crater Lake in a few hours then on to Moses Lake. You need to read the Rule Book as it will give you the answers you are looking for.

I will give this a shot, in the J Division three boats have to cross the starting line to get national points dont matter if some jump or how many finish the race it takes three starting to make it a legal point race. So from what was said there were no points given on Sat as all jumped and KT never started. Question is were there two heats Sat or just one if there were two heats what was the scoring on the other heat. Ok now for Sunday APBA shows KT as finishing 2nd but with no points given which to me there wasnt three boats that started the race in either heat if there was two heats ran. Dont know why she is shown a finishing second when she finished first and you can call APBA and they will be glad to check out what happened but its really a mute point as there are no points involved.

Thank you all! As Bill mentioned, being a guy, the last thing we do is read instructions, right??? LOL

No specific rules adressing this situation. Gstillwill, thanks for the input, yes, only 2 boats Sunday, but, she was 1st, not second...That's what was not making any sense.....No points being moot point or not, 1st is first. That's what was befoozling me....

Your right it should be listed as a first even with no points, call and question APBA and see what the mistake was.

If the race is scheduled as 1-2-3 or4 heats you add up the points and the person with the most points wins.

In the USTS we run 3 heat races for most classes. We decided that the younger raceers would gain more experience by having an extra heat, and decided to run 2 heats on sat. and 2 on sun. Those 4 heats are scored as 1 race, the weekends K Pro race. That is how we do it but don't think anybody else follows our format. Skoontz, I'd check with the Cheif Scorer of the race your talking about and see if they had a 1 day or 2 day format. I know that in the midwest they sometimes squeeze 3 days of racing into 2 calendar days. In the USTS we do one complete race in two days. This gives us about a 4 hour program and doesn't wear out officials and volenteers.

I'll talk to Jean after nationals and ask her how that works!

Thanks for the input!
