Joe Rome and I decided this morning that 2011 will be the NEXT "BIG" DePue Reunion...We expect that every year there is a race at DePue, that there is a REUNION of such, but 2011 will be 50 years at DePue...Plan to still be alive then, so you can attend the 2011 Reunion...
I'll still have a few 2007 shirt for sale!!! And maybe posters...

How about the Hydroplane Quarterly's I've had a couple of people e-mail me and I tell them that I don't know. I just donated them all to you guys. I don't even have one signed and numbered myself. If there are any left, I'll buy one myself.
That is a great keepsake from the reunion and one that took alot of work to put together. Thanks Tim for your time and focus on some of the most important events and personalities from our great sport.
I bought one from Joe at the Reunion as soon as Tim brought them in. I got #2 since Joe had first grab. I also got a personally signed copy for my racing goodies collection. I kept the personally autographed copy, and sent a copy of the program and the #2 HQ to Marshall Grant to thank him for the books he sent (I was lucky enough to get a copy of that which I am going to share with Hoz Compton since I beat him out of it during the auction.) Great memories from long ago, and great memories from the week in DePue thanks to all who attended.

Tim,
As you saw, I am a pack rat regarding boat racing pictures and scrap books:) I owe you big time for letting me pit crew for you. I'd be happy to send mine back to you.
I can not thank you enough for all your kindness to Mike and me. It was absolutely heaven on earth... knee deep in Lake DePue with a squirt can of "go go" juice and plug wrench in my hand!
Funny how time flies... the last picture I have of me during our racing career was in 1974 with a plug wrench in my hand waiting for my brother to come back in for a "tune up". It was raining and he was in Papa's V-7 runabout with the B Koenig... who'd a 'thunk it' 33 years later a plug wrench in hand and a can of "go go" juice and the sweetest smell in the whole wide world... nitro/alkie burning.
*Almost forgot to post what I called and told you and Ann... Even though Papa is heading out Paradise Lake, when I showed him the picture of our pit site... he softly chuckled and said, "Damn Ugly Boat"

 Anybody interested in a couple of regional B.D.O.B.R Reunions before 2011?
I'd be willing to help, if anybody else wants to :D
If not, please put me on the 2011 volunteer committtee.

Hey Ron & Joe I plan to be alive in 2011.
Probably won't have any hair or teeth left, but I'll gum some gator tail if Charley's cooking.
Might have to turn the roping job on Tim's boat over to Karen. She won't even be old enough to draw Social Security yet!

I sure as heck wish you would have been with me this morning. 5 foot baby, trying his dangest to steal the bait of a fishing hook and begging for a "hand out"...
IF I would not have been ticketed by MS Dept. of Wildlife, Game and Fisheries, for not havin' a gator catcher' permit  and IF I would not have gotten thrown in the slammer for discharging the 38 stainless Rossi around my waist in my fanny pack  I would have sent you gator meat today. :)
We've got small one's and 15 footers hangin' out where I live and they are going to open season this fall.
Would you be willing to come cook? I don't know how :D
Plenty of open space for visitors too! (Gene, Ron, John... and the rest of my buddy list!)
Another thought... Wonder if the U.S. Title Series has ever looked at the Ross Barnett Reservoir as a potential race site? Central location; (cross roads of U.S. I-55 and U.S. I-20); shallow water; a couple of possible pit sites come to mind; and could probably get support from the following agencies: Ridgeland Tourism Department; City of Ridgeland, Metro Jackson CVB, City of Jackson and MS Division of Tourism. (I might just know a few folks in each of those places from my 12 years in the ho...tell/mo...tell/ Holiday Inn... business here ;) )
Jeeze I am dating myself. Does ANYBODY remember that dang disco song, besides me?

There's talk about an in between reunion at Alexandria, LA Karen. Nothing really cookin' yet, but who knows. Dick Pond ran some screamin' hydro races on Fort Buhlow Lake. BTW what's wrong with protecting yourself with a .38?:D Maybe Charley can bring you a tooth necklace and alligator belt when he comes to fry some more tail.;):D
2011 is not that far away. I remember John Schubert was hot to trot in 2006, but we needed a little time to get our heads together to make it work in 2007. But now, with John's template and a bunch of addresses, it should be a little easier next time. A lot more BRF members now know that they should be there, and I'm guessing Jeff will manipulate the Boy Scouts Jamboree so that he will be able to attend.
There are some things we planned for the last reunion that we didn't get done, but maybe we can in 2011. I am talking about working with Tim Chance and putting together a program with lots of interesting photos and stories. That will take some time, donations, submissions of photos and stories, etc. So maybe we can start to work on that in the meantime.

Wayne, I'm still good to go, we'll keep in touch. And I thought that Charley just ran over those big lizards with his car. Karen, I think the Jackson are would be a good location. Countdown to the 500R Worlds, I hope I can get ready. - Tim

Great Tim, we can PM on some of the ideas we had before, and then refine them. For those who don't know, we just did not get enough early info to do the original reunion program, but Tim put together a fantastic "Best Of" Hydroplanes Quarterly limited edition which is now a collectors item. He donated all that to the cause. I don't really now how he came about picking the particular stories and ads, because in my opinion there are too many to pick from. So that issue is really Best Of Volume I, but because it was the first, it is special. I know you've got a lot of good stuff to start off with Tim....that trunkload of Kay Harrison documents, pictures and the like.

I'll help with the efforts also! Delegate a to do list to me and color it done. I'll help as much as I can.
*Sidebar --- I have all the original photos of Dicky at Alex from the 60's and all the original photos and articles when he drove for my Grandad, Marvin Penn and Marshall from the 50's on... except the originals I mailed to him after the O.F. Christner Memorial Race in Quincy years ago:eek:
I have many originals of Jack Kugler also. Jack, Jody, Jeff, Vicky, Mom, Bill, Pop, my brother Mike and I traveled "gypsy" style in caravans, often together in the old station wagons, pullin' boat trailors.
Jack and my Grandad were, and remained very good friends, until the dad Pop died.
Jody has always been A HOOT, a role model for me and my "Aunt". (My mother was an only child)
Jeff -- my quiet, sweet "little brother"
Vicky--- my "older sister" and playmate
Mike --- my "onery" older brother--
Worst butt-whippin' I ever got in my life , and deservedly so, was on the way to a boat race in the 60's.
Mike pulled my hair and I rolled his feet up in the back window of the blue chrysler station wagon and held on the electic power button.
Bill and Mom couldn't override my "revenge" from the front seat :p where the other button was.
Never knew my mom could move that fast  One leap and she was clear to the back and busted my little rear end, (or any of my moving parts) as I ran circles around the inside of the back windows trying to escape her "revenge" ... frankzappacrappa moment, for sure.
I also have all of Granny Sue's original home movies of all the races from the 50's & 60's! In one of the scenes you can see a very, very young Paul Christner, his very young brother and a youthful O.F. Christner :)
I've promised them to Paul as soon as I can get the still shots pulled from the original home movies, and a copy of section in the movie of just Paul, his brother and his Dad. It would look great on the Merc/Quincy Web site.

Nope, sorry. The 38 fits very tidy in my purse and pocket. The military issue 45 stuck out the top of both.
 I hate when that happens.

Sounds good. By then I should have enough experience to win my first nationals and Charley should have his "GATOR JERKY" perfected.

Go for it Buddy! (youngsters... Lordy, I have to admit I am jealous and won't be making that statement...s$#@)
Charley, while your perfecting "GATOR JERKY" think you can come up with some kind of trademarkable anti-wrinkle cream for the women members of the B.D.O.B.R Club???:D

Dag GUM Right.
SOLD--- I'M IN --- GREAT ANSWER!
Best one I've gotten from ANYBODY today...
Gotta get back to work, and the real world. Lot's of boggies to shoot at lately, along with unethical businesses and employees thereof.
(NO, NOT LITTERALLY, ya'll... only in a strategical business/legal sense) I wish Wyatt & Doc were alive and well and embrassed by current U.S. law makers.
Ignunce', Ignorance, may be "bliss"... but laziness, self-imposed ignorance, and self-imposed helplessness (intentional, or acts of such) by any American, really makes me frosts my tail and puts me in a pissy frame of mind.
All 44+ years of "training" in Naval Academy, US Marine Corps Standards along with years of trying to argue with a Lawyer (Bill Collins) while only truly being his "practice crash test dummy" in the lost art of cross examination are just about to be unassed on several unlucky individuals and entities. But only when my dandy team of general counselors from 2 states says it is ok to do so. My job is to shut up (good lord which, as ya'll know is dang near impossible for me to do :D :D :D)
*Icing on the cake, they all have a hellacious sense of humor, love to live large, and worked their way up from the trenches.
Like many of us in this racing "community", they all paid their dues first and sacrifieced for years, before they won their 1st race.
Now they deserve every single penny they make, in my opinion, even if I pay part of those pennies.
gotta run
