Does anyone have a complete set of Ben-hur plans they would like to share so I could copy them then return it?Built one back in 1974 I believe and it was one fast hydro.Liked the looks too.Getting ready to build new boats for next year and would like to build another Ben-Hur.

Dan - Clark Craft (clarkcraft.com) has plans for the Ben Hur for $45.00. I remember this Hal Kelly designed boat. George Wilson built several in the 1960's and the guys ran alky deflector Quincy C's, D's, and 44's on them. As a little historical note, Roy Rogers, the King of the Cowboys, drove Wilson Hydros.

I have a set complete. I made up two sets for a couple guys that asked. One sent the $$$ for the copy and the postage the other did not. So if you are still looking I have them in a mailing tube ready to ship. 30$ was the cost of copying and shipping.
Thanks,

I built and raced a Hal Kelly C Hydro (late 60's ?). I can't remember it's length or other details, but I do remember it having 13 "ribs" including the transom (I think). Does anyone recall the "name" of this model or any details? I know it was not the Ben Hur model. This had a fabric deck.

Since Jupiter had all wood decks, this could be the lengthened "C" Class version of Wetback. The "B" Wetback was 9'10" and the recommendation for "C" was to add 2" behind the sponsons and make it an even ten feet. Clark Craft still sells these plans.

Tim you are all wet on this one. My first race boat that I built was the Jupiter. Outboard "B" class (PRO 350 today). It is a copy of the Dumbrowski(sp). It has a hooked bottom between the sponsons. I ran that boat the first year of racing and went out of it twice. It couldn't turn worth a darn because I didn't build the rear chine with wings.

I'm confused. Why can't Roger's boat have been a stretched Wetback?

Maybe it is. The Jupter is not a lengthen Wetback. It is a different design.

I didn't say the Jupiter was a lengthened Wetback. I said the "C" Wetback was a lengthened "B" Wetback. The Jupiter was a design all to its own. Hedlund built a stock version of the Jupiter and Dub Parker built his Dubinski an alky version. Soderstrom from Minnesota copied the Jupiter/Dubinski too.

"Since Jupiter had all wood decks, this could be the lengthened "C" Class version of Wetback." Your words Tim, i'll let the World decide.
You are not running for something are you?

OK, I'll start over. Roger - I think your fabric deck Hal Kelly C Hydro was the lengthened "C" version of the Wetback.
There was another wood deck Hal Kelly boat called the Jupiter, but it was different and I won't even mention it.

Tim,
With age comes wisdom and loss of memory!!! I seem to remember the Wetback more so than the Jupiter. Sure wish I had kept this boat. Actually, I wish I had kept all my boats and motors!!!! Who wouldn't wish for that?
Thanks for the reply.
Roger
