Let me tell you a little something about this man for all the people that think that he is someone sitting on a pedistal somewhere. He is the most common person that you will ever find in this world.
First met Bob at Marysville in 2000 . He likes to run the little lake at Marysville and Darrell Sorenson brings Bobs motor to the race. Bob was planning on running Delbert Phipps boat in osy race . Somehow we met [ with Dels help ] and I ask him to look at my boat to see what he thinks . My boat is an old Sorenson hydro with lots of years. He looks at my boat for me and says he likes the balance of it . Told him that if he changes his mind about running Dels boat that he was welcome to mine for osy . He decided that he would like to ride in mine with his motor in osy so we did it .
Saturday he drove mine in osy and placed [ dont remember if 2nd or 3rd ] , Saturday I ran good and placed [ once again dont remember if second or third ] . He had to head back home before the Sunday race so I asked him what he thought I could do to improve my boat the way i had it set up . He asked me what was wrong with the way it was running and I told him that it ran great , got good air and gave me a great ride but wasnt fast enough to beat the guys with the latest stuff. He told me that if it was fun to run then run it, and if you cant beat them on the course , beat them at the clock . Sunday , I ran for the clock and backed off a little , the two hot dogs jumped and I went on to my first ever [ as a driver ] win in boat racing [ been doing this off and on since 1964 ] .
Thank you Bob you are my hero . [ From a little no name racer that will never forget ]
