I the boating world the general puplic always seems to think that their boat is way faster than it really is. In the PWC world it is even worse. What is the fastest documented speed of a wave runner/jetski, ect...?

My too coments above are not ment to upset any one, just my opinion of my area. Thanks.

I have a 1999 Yamaha Waverunner GP800 that I have modified the ride plate on and it will do an honest 54 mph with the motor still stock. There is a PWC racer that I know that has a Yamaha Waverunner GP1300R with an extremely modified engine and ride plate that will do 84 mph GPS. Most of the "R" series waverunners will perform in the mid 60's speed range bone stock, that is GPS speed.

I keep getting hearsay of one doing 90+ in my area. I WILL find him and ask him to carry MY GPS on one pass. It may be true, but I like proof.

Just like you I have seen my share of 90+mph claims on those things, I have yet to be walked or even challenged. The fastest one I have run was mid 70s.
They are just every where now a days ! A heard of maskitos.:D

go to the world finals at Lake Havasu City, AZ Crazy horse beach and you will see the fastest PWC racing in the world. You would be amazed at how far these people travel to race Thiland, Kuait...Most of them have already been here a month to train on in Havausu. My brother was there this past weekend to train for the race... Go Bobby Kerns # 714

Go Craig Warner # 6( Sponsored by Factory Kawai, Monster engery, Watoose, Miller racing)

Mr Kerns, ask him what documented speeds the see.

ok, they wont give me an exact answer right now with World Finals approaching next week. I was told that they go well over 85+ mph. The inside word is that at World Finals you will see the pro sit down class breaking 100+ mph. Now that is really fast and my brother told me that 70+mph the water is like cement when you fall off.

So look out for Craig Warner # 6 Pro open class sponsored by Facotry Kawi and Monster

My Son Andrew is friends with a couple of guys that race PWC enduros that he tells me have several hundred HP under the seat. I have met the guys who have a place close to the dam but haven't talked to them in a couple of years, but I think the last that Andrew was telling me was that the top speed they were running was somewhere in the mid 80's. I could be wrong because he is at a friends studying:cool: and I can't confirm that.:D

......you will see the pro sit down class breaking 100+ mph......

Not if my skinny butt was on it you wouldn't! I fell off one running in the mid 60's and it wasn't fun:rolleyes: I'm glad my doc doesn't visit this site, she already isn't happy with me running boats let alone riding skis.....

Got an update on the one I am refering to. I think it is a seedo motor, which ever one came with the supercharger, rebuilt, and installed into a different hull, 92mph at this time. I still say it MAY be true, but I want to see proof.

Found some proof myself, This is the guy I was refering to,
You tube: mud bug radar run 91.8mph

is he racing at world finals?

what class does he racing in?

Dkerns

Well Craig Warner won the pro class at World Finals. He even lapped everyone back up to himself. That is pretty impressive.
Monster one of his sponsors took him and his family and friends out to celebrate and picked up the tab. He also did some magazine photo shoots on Monday - so those sholf be out in the next few months...

Chris McCluggage did not qualify his boats broke...

Are their any documented speeds?

Dkerns
10-18-2007, 06:23 PM
Craig's did 85.5 mph

and he was able to lap everyone back up to himself

A mechanic tested his ski on Monday in Havasu and will be doing a write up on it for a Watercraft magazine so you can look for that as well

I am aware of 6 90mph plus PWC's but the fastest documented I am aware of is 97mph pass by a turbocharged seadoo motor in a GPR hull. JD1

Mid 80s are much more commonplace....

At last years PWC ralley June in Morgan City, LA(which is really just informal group of speed nuts) with 90+ heat.. here is a run down on fastest 20 that showed up and did the radar runs

"its a 275 hp 4 stroke laser x2000 that was made by swift oceanics... they took deposts, but never went into production with them... they claimed 90mph jetski back 5 years ago...."
I tried to do a little research.

Swift Oceanics is no longer in business,The ski was Reported to break 90 MPH.
The hull was alumiun. There was a big uproar about the sponsons being deadly, combine with the speed....I read were the CEO said the ski "will have built in break away sponsons, made of hard foam rubber so that if someone does run into an object or person less damage
and more importantly people won't suffer the way they
would from being struck by that of a hard composite
material."
The owner (Darrell Miklos) left Cali. and moved to Arizona to put in a new boat manufacturing plant for a few years. My understanding now is he is living between the Bahama's and Mexico.

Here's a interesting converstion about it being discussed.

Here's another article on the company.

Not that there's anything wrong but a JETSKI is just that WATERJET propelled. So all of a sudden it's not quite as interesting, we'll watch though.
RichardKCMo

That pwc has a jetpump

Personal Watercraft most always are jetpropelled, but in some cases (like mine) they have a propeller... :D

I would LOVE to have one of these tunnel skis and do a propeller conversion on it.. then it really would be a sit on hydro !!!!

wikipedia gives us the definition....

A personal water craft (PWC) is a recreational watercraft that the rider sits or stands on, rather than inside of, as in a boat.
Different names for them are
WaveRunner, (yamaha brand)
Jet Ski (which is kawasaki brand)
Sea-Doo (which is Bombadier brand)

I wonder what they would have called this.... *GRIN !
Hydroski perhaps? I hate that it never went into production.... I bet it would have been an exciting design.

Here is a picture of my waverunner with propeller conversion

Here is the build thread.. 25 pages (it generated some interest :) )
http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=47449

Right now I am using direct drive, but most likely will add a gearbox to lower propshaft height and reverse rotation of propeller.

I am getting a lot of torque, and figure if I can have prop rotating opposite of engine, then that would help rather then everything swinging the same direction

I saw that ski several years ago in Laughlin at the PROP races. I wish I would have paid more att to it. They said it would be out soon but it never did.
