Here are 2 boats that ran R class in the bay area [ CCRA and WCOA ] One had a 44cu. Merc the other had a 6 cylinder inline merc. You could also run the 650 merc powerhead [ Mike Snell did] and the merc 800 4 cylinder [ Dee Rayes ran one. The 44 could stay up pretty good with the 650s but you could kiss the rest of them goodbye when the flag dropped.

I got to get this picture on the internet . Sorry , It is me a long time ago . I was actually in the lead by the amount you see [ look at the boats on the back stretch ] and check out the turn fin . This Rhoades craft hydro would hang great in air and when you had to make a right hand turn it got even higher. I knew that Ken Kusnick was on the spillway at Lake Amador taking pictures and I was hoping to get a good one . This was the first lap picture. They were all asleep on the clock. The previous pic that I sent was the second lap. The big boys were coming. I would love to have that boat back now just to hang on my pool room wall . It was the last boat Jerry Rhoades built. He went on to continue winning in club races and also drove Havasu with J.D.Mitchell, the owner of Menlo Cyclery in Menlo City [ I do hope that that name is right ], In a Glastron/ Molinari but the boats he ran after that were Del Crafts.
