Infection finally set in.....
I was wondering when it would finally happen!!!
Now I can quit waiting and wondering.
It looked bad forever, and I guess it finally found the right strain of staph to attach to the wound on my shin.
I woke up Friday morning with it really hurting, which I found to be a change in the wrong direction. It had been without pain untill that point.
About two hours later it burst and filled my sock with blood and pus. My ankle swole up tremendously, and my lymph nodes in my inner thigh swole as well.
I called my DR. and he phoned in a prescription, and now I am on the road to recovery.
On the lighter side, I am capsule certified.
This looks great on any resume.
Corey Thibodaux:D
Oh I forgot to tell you, keep your knees up against the capsule side when they flip you off the dock so your legs don't hit the dash:D
Gee Corey,,, I thought everyone knows that:confused: :D
Where's Tim???
wow i am so looking forward to training 100 bucks+ capsule training= bloody sock
C'mon Corey , your scaring the newbies:D
Actually Cyka what happened was no one told Corey that when they flip the capsule over gravity happens and your legs, because they are basically loose tend to hit the bottom of the dash , he hit the dash or steering shaft on his shins because he didn't wedge his legs to keep them from being loose.
SORRY buddy I should have thought and told you about it ,,, on the other hand the rest of it was quite fun didn't you think????:D :D :D
It's not that bad Cyka, the girls do it::rolleyes:
wow i am so looking forward to training 100 bucks+ capsule training= bloody sock

yes why did you scare the newbie, we are fragile. you know what scares me more? the people there didnt say anything. hey your lucky it wasnt in Orange in the bad water. O wait hehe. and jt i tried but couldnt find anything priceless.

HEy Doug that water in Highlands was cold and nasty very nasty!
Chris
I don't know Chris,, water in Orange was not to good either ,,,,we have to
watch out for that flesh eating bacteria,,,, it's going around down here,,, seriously !!!!! being in some of that water with open cuts can lead to some serious issues.:( several wade fishermen have gotten it this summer at the coast.!!!
You may want to go see a doctor Corey ,, we learned the hard way about infections and not taking care of it right away,, staph is nothing to play around with.
great now its flesh eating bacteria. wow capsule trainer sounds better then Disney. remind me to not pull a cory when its my turn.
Cyka,
Not trying to discourage you or anyone else,, we poke fun at each other alot down here . Capsule training is a very necessary part of racing a boat with a canopy or belts. all kidding aside it teaches you not to panic when you are upside down under water, to get out safely or work with the rescue divers who are trying to help you. it's real easy to be in a panic situation when you just Barrel Rolled at 60-120 mph or flipped backwards end over end and hit the water . IT IS A VERY REAL POSSIBILITY and one we live with knowing it could, will happen sooner or later if you race boats. if you decide to do it find a place that does it in a pool first and watch everybody else and see what to do,, the instructors will help you get through it. Flip a boat on the course and you are own your own till recue gets there,, you will remember the training hopefully. I have yet to need it but came close at Port Neches:rolleyes:
As far as infection , going into any water , even pool water with the chemicals,, with a open wound/cut you risk a very real possibility of infection.
My wife got dog bit where she works at a vet the week before Orange race, punctured the skin on her left thumb,, no big deal just wash it and put some antibiotic cream on it right?????? WRONG ,,,within 24 hrs her whole hand and arm swole up,, went to the ER,, Had to be admitted right away and start IV antibiotic drip for 3 days before the swelling and fever went away,,, how much you ask was the bill??? about 8 grand and counting for the 3 days and drugs.
And flesh eating disease is real,, look it up,,, we have had several people contract it wade fishing around South EAST Texas coast. being in the water with open sores or wounds on their legs exposed. It happens!!!!!

No one seems to care that Ole Corey got shin poisoning. I cut the black dead skin off with a razor last night. Now I have a nifty hole just the right size to fit two pencil erasers into.
The Bactrim seems to be killing the infection though.
I had a similiar incident where I had a chunk of black dead skin was hanging off my right tricep. It hung on long enough to drag a vein to the surface. At the time I had no medical, so I fixed it myself.
I killed the infection with antibiotic for cattle that I bought at tractor supply. I had to break the huge pills in half, and swall the round end first.
On the vein at the surface of the skin, I cauterized it with a soldering iron over the bathroom sink. This really stank up the joint and made alot of smoke, and and made a bloody mess. Nothing like burning blood.
On the lighter side most of the tissue was regrowing, and it was still numb, so I could feel the heat, but it was almost pain free.
I will show you my 2 scars next season.
My old tricep, and my new shin injury.
Corey Thibodaux:cool:
Your so full of it:D
Cauterizing with a soldering iron !!!!!:D :D come over to the vet where my wife works,, i'll get you a appointment:D

Vetrinary drugs was where the problem began on my tricep.
I know you must have seen the scar.
ya im just being a smarta$$.you will learn it the longer you know me. I will take an infection as long as get to race. some one had that bac. when i was in school, not fun. our water in the mtns.have lots of bacteria. so dont eat the snow here. o and black skin, never had that i need to see photos.
I put bactrim in my dogs ears:D It is good stuff though. all kidding aside you would be amazed at the amount of drugs that are used on both people and pets, some are the same just called different names. You were taking half a cow antibiotic:D the dose is figured by weight,, your a big guy but don't weigh half a cow:D find some stuff called Karavet ,it's a jell type wound ointment, it's good stuff for cuts, better than anything else I know of.
TS OR Petsmart probably has it,,,,,,
You know there are people reading this going ?????? What the He'''''''
  :D :
I can't quite laughing about the cow pills ,,,,, sorry man
drugs at petsmart lol how do you explain that to the clerk

OK, Corey...I admit I was worried about your infection, and in spite of the teasing we don't want you to be the captain of the peg-leg pirate trihull next season... Have you tried Windex on it? In the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" they say it cures anything...maybe it works on Cajuns too????:D
Good job Corey...great thread, many many good laughs!!!!! And, that really was not DKL's doorbell....I confess, it was mine!

Next go round I am wearing shin guards.
I believe that we do the training every other year, and the in between years Carelton sets up a mechanical bull at Highlands for the racers that need not be re-certified.
I suppose I will have to go the full 8 seconds, and John Miffco grades the dismount on style and grace.
Latest Yahoo news headline,,,,,
Deaths from invasive Staph infections may exceed the number of deaths atributed from AIDS :( :( new strains of Staph resistant to antibiotics!!!
Go see a doctor soon Corey!!!!!!! and have it looked at,, not something to play around with.
wow this is worse than aids and bird flu. im glad i dont live near a Texas lake. we need to start a save cory fund. any one got a bucket.
TRUE STORY,,
A lady I work with has a teenage son that was sick for a long time,,, flu like symptoms,, fever ect ect. and went to numerous doctors ,,,run many test and still couldn't figure out what the heck was wrong with him,,, this went on for a couple weeks.. finally told her son ,,I'm taking you to this doctor,,, a older guy,, been out in the country practicing medicine for years.. any way doctor looks at him,, checks him over real good and looks over his bifocals and says,,,,,,,, HAVE YOU BEEN SWIMMING WHERE THERE ARE BEAVERS ?????
The kid looks at him with a suprised look:eek:    and said yes ,,,how did you know!!!
seems he had been swimming with a couple friends some weeks before in a small lake that Beavers had taken up residence in,,,,,
Evidently Beavers carry some type of bacteria or something that gets into the water(maybe some of you know what it's called) and a person swimming in the water can contract a illness from it,, most modern younger doctors had never heard of it but the old doctor was familiar with the symptoms and recognized it right away:)
You never know:D

We Hill's (Ron, Russ, Bunker and Marlee) lost a long term friend to staph. He was a former NFL all-pro. Jack Snow was recovering fine from hip replacemrnt surgery and wham... got a strain of staph and was dead in 7 days!!
Very scary stuff!
get it taken care of!1

For you Corey & the rest of you Tri Hull guys & Gals (that's for you Whitney) I am working on a tri hull capsule. It seems only fair to train you in what you drive. Part of the procedure that Kevin & I explain to you is the 123...Canopy, Wheel, then Belts. A lot of good that does when you are trying to get out of your boat looking for your canopy. I already have a cage, seat & belts, just need an old tri hull to chop up to build our new trainer. Until then, bare with me. Oh, and by the way Corey, "Hold on And brace yourself" There, I said it. Until next time....Mike
Thats a good idea Mike,, sounds like it would be heavy to handle though,
Can't we just strap Corey into his boat,, pick it up upside down with the crane and drop him off the end of dock and call it good????:D less work for you guys;)
Oh and Corey,,, whats up with the mechanical bull stuff,,,,, are you and Tim sitting around watching Urban Cowboy AGAIN!!!!!!
And tell Tim to take that black cowboy hat off,,,,,, he does NOT look like his idol John Travolta:p
I think its rhinestone cowboy. o and I have 20 cents for the save cory fund.(cleaned out chair) and have you been playing with beaves again?

I called my Dr. last Friday, because it was progressing too rapidly to wait untill morning.
He prescribed some Bactrim, and some Lortab for pain.
All I have is a hole in my shin where a little bit of ooze runs out sometimes.
The swelling went down, and the pain dissipated. I have about 5 more days on the bactrim, and I will be ready for the next go round.

mike
you caught the highlands incidence it was refering to
was waiting for a reply to bring it in the open
but didnt get the kick in the *** i gave to myself
i was not making fun of procedure
the reversing the procedure was saying i did f....k up in highlands without saying the words
i will admit it,,,have no problem too,,,,
and want every 1 to know and have it drilled in thier heads the 1,2,3
i have been over more times than i have fingers from drag days to tunnels
i know it well,,,,,and still when i rolled i released belts 1st,,,,,,,,
why,,didnt think,,,,,,
after releasing i was disoriented in my location in the capsule ,,water was so dirty could not see anything and was trying to open canopy from wrong direction
i messed up because i didnt open canopy 1st,,,remove wheeel then release
the life jacket will pull you to surface,,and if boat is upside down it pulls you to capsule bottom,,,,
this is to let all know
no matter how many times been over
it does not become ,,just an incovienence getting wet
it can happen that you could take longer to get out of you dont follow procedure
it happened to me,,,,,
made me more aware if it happens again,,,
to think before reacting
BTW
i am soo good at hitting bouys
i can get them even on trailer in the pits
now lets see some 1 top that

Thanks for letting everyone know John. Racers tend to whine about how brutal capsule training can be or whine that it is done at the race site other than a heated pool. But what they do not understand is the reality of being upside down and not knowing what to do. Hopefully, this will instill in their heads that even veterans can make mistakes. I am not trying to hurt you guys in the capsule, I am just trying to make it as real as possible and to teach you on how to possibly save your life. Corey, if it makes you feel any better, I continue to gash my head and shins in that capsule every year and I do not even race any more. I do it because I want to go through what you have to so I can better explain to you guys on what to expect and what to do. So, I feel your pain. But, next year hopefully we will have the new tri hull trainer. As far as the capsule goes, I am re vamping it this winter and, it will have foam padding at the shins so you guys will quit cutting yourselves. See ya in Savannah...Mike

I am going to live, I am almost sure of it.
The busted shin was almost pain free, even as bad as it looked.
The only real pain happened about two weeks later when it became infected and started exploding and erupting.
I did not become infected at the race site, but long after the incident.
I run a small carpet cleaning business in Austin, and every house that I went into had a dog that was licking the dam injury.
It is not true that it is good to let a dog lick your wounds I suppose.
In future ( Properly bandage your wounds )
