I think last year, (2007), the Burley race committee said no.......Not enough time. I may be wrong, but I seem to remember a big stink about it with the North western Nostalgia racers.....Contact "Circlejerk", he'll know........Ray

Ray,
I talk to Boyd yesterday. Codling is not going to support the Northwest Nostalgia racers. We were hoping the some of the region 12 guys would come up and force the issue. Is anybody interested?

I would be willing to come up and support the Northwestern racers, if I would get SCSC Nostalgia/Comp Jet points as well as able to secure sponsorship funds for the events.

I am happy to hear that someone else is interested in a nostalgia event. We have talk about attending a SCSC event or two, if we can get some of you guys to come to Burley and run. Our problem is to get the guy "at the Helm" to agree to let us run in our own class>

I ran Comp Jet at Burley this year and plan to run it again, but I can always bring a secoond boat for the Nostalgia class.

That will only happen when there is something in it for him......Not likely. He has several region 10 area racers that have been pushing for a long time, no problem fielding a class, but still no......Kinda makes you wonder exactly who he is representing.........Is there such thing as a recall in APBA??.......MP
PS: It is really sad when a person puts personal "wants and desires" above those he is suppose to be representing. Given an oppertunity to make decisions, on several occasions, he has failed to do the right thing everytime........Truly a joke, a slap in the face of APBA, time and time again......Maybe it should be called CPBA in region 10..........
Well, as I see it, we dont want to assume things havent changed at the Helm. Positive Vintage Flat activity was welcomed last year but I just could not attend any. We dont want to discourage anyone, racer or promoter on Burley or future races. I plan on being ready for the long haul with my boat that WILL NOT run Pro Stock! Division 10 has our Nostalgia guys filling the ailing SS class for 2007 more than once and I am sure we have enough boats for this and another Nostalgia class. As I see it, he gets both!! We can run GPS NE or Vintage when we have too many boats per heat. There are a bunch of new drivers like 222 preparing for next season, example: former SS33 Revenge, PS34 Bezer, Carribean Queen PS79, SS396, E39, and E513, Strobe Light Schiada, Action Jacksons Hemi b-boat, PS113, just to mention a few. I plan on supporting APBA Vintage next year and run as many as my fuel budget allows and now that list of events is in the hands of Div 10 administration. I hope the sites they choose includes Burley and some close or Central Washington towns! PLEASE! And as far as I know, 4 or 6 AOF sites are scheduled as well. Lets keep our fingers crossed and last years racing gas full of SeaFoam! Hey, I want to race into my retirement age even if they have to crane me in and out of the naugahide! Keep the faith ya all, and thanks Ross for your support, I hope to return the favor at Burley.

Your's or mine?.....I don't have any blood pressure issues.....My reddening face is because of the antifreeze I ingest. You can't be too careful when it comes to freezing weather at these boat races........Some people really do wonders for our sport, while others just don't seem to get the fact that it is not about THEM..........The racers make the sport what it is......The sport will live on without certain "authority" figures. Remove the racers and the sport is dead. The racers are the show, the gate comes to see them race. ............MP

Antifreeze? You mean Fuel for Foggies like us! Let's talk about the 'GATE' you mention:
When you think of it, most boat racers and their events are really ignored by the public in general when you compare our racing to other forms. Look at local racing like stock cars and your towns oval or drag track, or even motorcycles, and you find stands full of spectators but not at our Nostalgia or division 10 races. The only exception would be the jet Sprints that pack the crowds in. In other words, we do it for the love of the sport not any fame or fortune....heck even the Wednesday night bump to pass cars get place money! and those guys get local sponsors since they can actually give them exposure to their products or services. Not complaining, just wonder why some of us exhibitionists still do it??
For me, I simply love these old boats! And, if you must know, I would just love to show off a little amoung those of you great flat folks! Only you guys appreciate the hard work required on a racer. I'd also like to show off our boat racing family of pioneers from Eastern Washington, who have become quite good at making old stuff run pretty well and BOY have we graduated a bunch of experienced drivers from the 'University of Hard Knocks'! We're going on 8 years old, wow!
All the blocks are falling into place. Codling is no longer Chairman, Burley has a new guy in charge, there is much talk of other v-drives attending for the campout, parade and barbeque. Just look at the bunch of boats in the Boise area! And our Nostalgia has removed one of the June races. There is renewed interest in exhibition style running around the island (a chance for everybody with a flat) Of course speed limits are enforced and the question now is how many Southern Nostalgia boats would come join the fun? Yes, a first ever National Nostalgia Endurance Race-Campout could happen in Burley this year!
WOW why not a v-drive campout extravaganza at the largest v-drive event in the country? Camping is allowed on the driving range (Golf)! Last year saw very prominent past and present drivers sipping soda pops together which hasnt happened in 20 years. Nostalgia show and race boats+ Nostalgic people reunions= one heck of an event.

No, a big step in the right direction........I read about the change of command in the inboards section of APBA's site.........Lets hope the mistakes of the past can be overcome and return the Burley race to the status it once held......Just pencil me into the campground right next to RCL of Boise fame, that way I can keep an eye on him and his holigan friends..........:):)

I understand there will be a contingent of SCSC folks there and I fully expect to run under APBA SCSC rules for Nostalgia Endurance. If Vintage boats are also invited, then a Vintage Flat class MIGHT be possible. That's what we will run in Washington whenever I can. Now, how many of our guys will follow, is the question I cant answer. A v-drive campout is quite popular down South so why not Burley? or Boise a few days apart?
OH Marc, Robbie just said he is coming out of retirement IF there is an 80mph class! Who knows Jim, we could have a dozen boats from up here, how many would you guess from there?
Two fast Montana boats and our oldest member in his 62 Rayson. The 880 boat now features Hilborn FI and way more polish and his friends Hallett long deck wins most of the time with a 396!
Here ya go Jim, these are all SK or ski boat Nostalgic Endurance competitors. In the four boat shot, look at the black and blue boat, that is Jack Kileys former 'Sweet Caroline' named Lavey Sidewinder. It didnt time in well enough for the fast class but moved up later in the weekend. Now, all of us will have to slow down some but will make way more side by side action with the best driver and handling boat coming out on top. Oh, two girl drivers also in the mix! They do OK and really bug the guys!

Here's few,
I got the "two kinda racers" outa the way.I love this stuff
jpg.gif oldtown2 063.jpg
EXTREME high pressure wash job? No extra charge, we'll drain the oil also....Great shots of your now famous Howard with Vale paint and Varmit massage & polish. Yup you got the two kinds of circle racers plum handled. Nice photos! Who said you cant make a runner bottom turn? This boat really hauls fish!
+ Continental (Mandella copy) driven by bush pilot Mr. G.T. Boat features powerglide 2 speed and BIG block chevy and a favorite name: 'Got Milk'.
Some of our 'Outlaws' have served time but have paid their debt to society and are now free men!
+ we have hydros that really add to the show, a pair of 266ers. The Miss Miami and High Lead were two of the first to start circling in 2003 and now both run Unlimited Lights in addition to Nostalgia!
#88 Sanger was setting in storage for 18 years until the owner called me and asked if I knew anyone interested at 3500 bucks! I said, "OF COURSE"! With an outboard hydroplane champion driver in his first flat bottom race it placed 2nd at the 22 boat Nostalgia race at 'Tastin Racin' on Lake Sammamish. There were so many boats that 4 heats were required. This cagey driver landed in the slower heat where veteran George Nordling was sorting out his new Lavey and everyone was following him to the start. This #88 ran outside in lane 8 with perfect starts, hense his podium finish. The boat is a very rare gull wing 1971 Circle bottom according to mold builder Harlan Orrin. He even commented that he didnt think this bottom was used until 72 0r 73 bubble decks but his design was certainly present on 88. This boat is once again looking for a new home. Notice the Dynamite Box intake? And the rare MT custom breathers?
Here is: 1971 Rayson Craft who finished second his first year out only because of electric fuel pump failure in the final heat. An amazing boat! from Milton Freewater Oregon.
This is for all Americans especially Veterans who serve our Country and love boats. We started each race with the Anthem and Old Glory making one lap with a celebrity guest rider.
Here's a cool 1966 Center deck Howard with a rare forward-reverse v-drive box who towed in from Montana with the family so we had to get him onto the course as the colors parade boat. Too bad he moved before we got our ski class going.
Here is Steve and his successful Hallet outside the Sheriff's pretty SK76 Sanger, both are powered by 396 cubes and run in the 80s! This is one of the funnest classes especially for us on budgets. The 17 boat has not been defeated whenever he survives the long tow from Eureka Montana and for a quiet guy, many talk about him and his fast boat! Like that stranger who blew into town for the gunfight! I'd like to see his wife bring her Wickens down but I dont think he'd like her to beat him......
some of you, let me know you want more.

Love the shots and you must have been on the parade lap, all sucked down like that! #535 is running my prop! I can see the size numbers! Note the strakes similar to Barron Sprints in ths Hondo Sprint designed for circle racing. Jerry Video King has a similar craft and I know he will like this shot! Thanks Timmie Oh by the way, the boat wake ahead of these fellas is A LAVEY SS76! B-boatJerks
Here: Top shot shows our under 400 cubic inch class with newcomer 'Half Throttle Dave' in resurrected E39 a Marlin. I think it's his first heat of competition in 25 years! He is also on my wifes 10 best dressed list!:D
The next two shots display our own animal Timmie FlatRat's #880 actually passing somebody! And not just any somebody, but two very famous L-boats: 'Sweet Caroline' and 'Hot Canary" SS70! Did we celebrate that night also?
This is a Howard drag runner bottom folks!

Just FYI, the Burley Regatta is always the last complete weekend in June...MP
I'm going and everyone so far is as excited as myself. Do I send the registration package to the Burley site address? Does a Vintage APBA membership work for Burley? We could have 8-10 boats going!!!!!

The Nostalgia classes that will be offered at Burley are governed by the IE category. So you must join APBA and IE as your category (you may join other cateogies but make sure you have IE on your card.). You will need a physical (proof of or send it to APBA when you join) and it will be put on your membership card. I will let you all know when the Burley sanction is complete and most likely post the link here for everyone to download along with the entry blank to be filled out completely and send in (will be on the sanction.).
Each driver will have to pay a $20 IE admin fund fee per APBA, other than that there is no other entry fee.
Stay tuned.
Thanks,

Anyone know if the one event entry fee is valid here?? Some of us just wont see the need for a year round membership, I am afraid. So if we bring proof of physical, APBA approved boats and gear and preregister, is this possible for those late decision makers??

You can buy a "single" event membership for the weekend. I think it is around $50. It can be done over the internet or on site on Friday.
Still need a physical, etc.

Thank you! now if we can get some competition to show up, I will buy a full membership to run other APBA events and possibly Ming in the fall. Boat wont be ready for March. I assume the internet site is APBA...or Burley's?
