sure they do...........it is just that they phased it out, as the Johnson name was (in the last years) given to the small carbureted 2 strokes and all the 4 strokes.........Evinrude was/is the brand name associated with the E-Tecs now, supposedly the Evinrude name was for the "deluxe" models......

Daren is right. BRP got both names, but is winding down the Johnson name. Maybe Jake is flying the obsoleted name to avoid being confused with the BRP factory

Jake (SeaWay) probably has a pre-existing agreement, as they bought all the racing stuff when OMC went under..........

Yes but he still shouldn't be using it should he? I would be very surprised if BRP gave permission.

They didn't get the stuff from OMC it was overseas wasn't it.

most of it was, but not all (but was still owned by OMC), as I was told. Jake could tell the story....

I'm just curious as lots of people are all excited because they think OMC/BRP is getting back into racing when infact they are not atleast not at this point.

I am SURE Jake has permission (if it is even needed anymore).........SEAWAY has ALOT invested in the resurected OMC racing parts...........

just for clarification..........OMC DOES NOT exist anymore and BRP is/has built and raced outboards.........their E-Tecs.........
SEAWAY is heading the Johnson Race motor.........

I stand corrected..:)
there could be Johnsons in the future???? But, why bring them back now, as their current motors Evinrude E-Tecs are now known for the brand name..........it is all marketing......same as when Mercury Marine eliminated the Mariner brand.......
I still have problems viewing a WHITE Evinrude............:D:D But, you can get them in BLUE also, which everyone recognises with the Evinrude name...
anyways, I would like to hear more about the SEAWAY Champ motor.....maybe I should make a trip down there and check it out..........I gotta go down by Ron Anderson's (the motor builder) place tommorrow anyways.........

I know OMC doesn't exist anymore i worked for Bombardier when they bought it. And BRP itself really didn't have anything to do with those motors that raced at Rouen it was only the European division. The only real reason they bought it was they needed the ficht technology to finish their sdi and di systems but its working out pretty good for them so far.

Of course it could be that the cowl came from Cees with all the other bits already labeled Johnson.

If you think it looks cool, you should have heard it. A real screamer. Was turning up some R's!
It certainly could not hurt Champ boat to have other kinds of engines out there. Many people were cheering for that white motor in Savannah including me. :D
so heres my question about the white motor how much does it set you back and is it better then merc

so heres my question about the white motor how much does it set you back and is it better then mercAt this time it doesn't set anyone back because they are not ready for sale to the public just yet..
Better than the merc? Well like everything else it just depends on who gets their hands on one and them give then some time. I don't believe that any one race motor is better than another just drivers and mechanics with more experience.
Those motors at this time couldn't be in much better hands but take into consideration the amount of time it takes to get the boat and prop setup right much less engine tuning. Perfect example of that was Timmy Seebold in SST120 at Orange, Nobody racing 120 today has more experience than the Seebolds with a race boat but yet they don't run 120 on a weekly basis so they were behind the eightball so to speak on the setup and spent the weekend trying props to get the boat competetive.
Soon as those guys get the bugs worked out of that rig it's going to be good racing for sure!
Another example is Tracey Hawkins stepping into a borrowed boat after How many years of not racing?????? and darn near smoked the whole group of them. Is Tracey going to have his own boat in 2008? race anymore or is he back in retirement;)
seebold getting the bugs out is a scary site
