here's the scoop on the last crackerbox race of the season in region 11.
4 cracker teams arrived. robert arnolds p100 with robert at the wheel and new lady rider alex adams in her 2nd race ride in a cracker. mitch gaspar s p13 with chris hager riding, jim matthew p87 with brandon brodecki riding and ruckis p28 with tony lombardo driving, ej abner riding. julian was off at a horseshow for saturday.
1st head had the p13 and p100 locked in a side by side battle for 5 laps with p100 edging out p13 by a boat length. p87 cruised breaking in his new power plant. p28 was sputtering and cutting out and could not make the start.
a broken ground wire to the mag, severed on p28 and was grounding out the mag. the team fixed that problem and ran boat on trailer and all seemed fine. what they will find out later, there was a 2nd porblem that was masked by the ground wire.
heat 2. more of the same with p13/p100 and p13 got his 1st heat win. p87 stepped it up a bit more, p28 was fine on the warm up laps and upon stepping on it to count the start, it sputterd and flamed out thru carb. they could not get it started.
the report was phoned into julian, and with mitch's help as julian described what changes were made at home, which was a jet change, it appears the accel pump on secondary was not properly seated, and carb had no secondary's. julian had let ej do the fine tune, felt no reason to double check the work. so a team hic up cost everybody points on saturday.
julian arrived saturday nite just in time for a fine bbq with all the cracker teams celebrating our good friend frank banduccis 60th year in racing.
sunday am, julian was up early, rechecked all the repairs from saturday nite. boat good to go.
line up change for sunday was tony lombardo / ken mallot in the p100 julian and mike in the p28.
at the start the p28 was 1st across the line and lead the field into turn 1, but the prop used in bakersfiled that turned so well on the big course. not so well on the tight course. boat would set, that left p13/p100 again doing battle and tony in the p100 took the win, p87 steping up some more pressing his new motor.
julian instructed the team to change props to the saturday bakersfield prop which worked real wll and put the long rudder on and drop center plates down a flat.
again at the start it was p28 taking the field into the turn, and even thogh slightly better in the turns, couldnt close the deal. p13/p100 were the battle to watch and tony in the 100 took the wind for his 1st ever crackerbox win overall. jimmy in p87 stood on it hard for 3 laps, but he was fatiqued and cruised that last 2 laps
it was a fine weekend. jim rucki and mike biglow took a tribute lap in the p28 just before the 1st heat on sunday. jim is retiring from crackerbox racing, maike is maybe partial retired. they took a leisure ceremonial lap with checkered flags and the crowds line up on the banks an waved to the most notorious cracker racing team. dad at age 72 has raced for more then 50 yrs.
the awards ceremony had mitch and chris getting thier dunking from the saturday 1st place as well as tony lombardo
region 11 had a good season of racing and we thank all those teams who came from region 12.
the top 5 are p9 p111 p96 p28 66p. mitch missed taking 5th by 23 points
