Hi - does anyone out there have any information about about a Tarantula hydro? I have recently inherited one - it's fiberglass, about 12' and looks like it was set up for OMC gear.

Thanks in advance -- Ken

(Ron, congratulations on your new site!)

There were a few of these psuedo sport but not race boats around this neck of the northern woods. They were not made for any kind of serious racing just something to wind up on the lake. They did not paticularly handle that well and could not handle much more than a Merc 40-50 short shaft engine and they still cracked and broke transoms. They were considered as being pretty ugly and quite heavy and those that did have them tried to improve on their weak structures by various bracing means and more fiberglass making them heavier still. You saw them every color imaginable to try to give them cahracter they did not have. People around here sold them used for next to nothing and many of those were given away because of equally poor and deteriorating conditions. I saw one a couple miles north of here at a used car lot on a trailer. The owner was selling the trailer and the ratheshabby Tarantula was being given away for free with it.
