  1. Those of us who knew Phil know what a courageous man he was. Phil'sright hand was trapped in a steam press for over an hour all his fingers and his thumb had to be amputated. Phil's doctor was a car racer and he knew how important racing was to Phil.

After months of surgeries what remained of Phil's right hand was transpormed into a ball that was inserted into a cup on the steering wheel. A piece of spring steel was taped around his ball hand to prevent it from popping out of the socket on the steering wheel.

Phil won a B-Hydro race at Unionville, MO following his return to racing. The PA announcer commented on how Phil had overcome his handicap to return to his winning ways.

Phil's wife Jeannie , went to the judges stand, took the mike away from the announcer and told the crowd that the only handicapped people in that race were the other drivers who had to compete against Phil.

A lot of racers who raced against Phil would wholeheartedly agree!

    We'll miss you Phil.
