A pretty common practice on the mercury blind bore motors, big gain is another story, rather part of a combination of mods, port timing, open exhaust etc. If done poorly you've ruined your block as was demonstrated a few years ago by a very opinionated contributor to this site.
Even at that, I don't know if it has any use outside of "blue printing" a stock motor to allowable specifications in a "stock" racing class where no modifications are allowed.

When you say squish the block do you mean, squish the cylinder head to increase compression, or squish the crankcase to increase crankcase compression?

How does it increase power? Top end or hole shot? How is it acomplished?
I would recommend a different thread to ask and answer the port timing question.
He is refering to the BLOCK, not the head. That is a totaly differant thing.
16cc's gots to be head chamber size. addin epoxys, ect to boost charging of the case, well i've seen it, millin on the case matin surfaces, seen that too,
was told it's old school and for the most part no gain.
more head comp' makes more power to a point, it too is old school, old school that works.
port timin works kinda like a high performance cam, opens the ports sooner, keeps them open longer, in hopes to transfer more volume to make more power and or to move the power curve.:cool:
