I know a few years back I got a couple of the OG’s talking. The flat bottom crew as I often referred to them. Just wondering how y’all are doing with these hurricanes. Hoping the best for all of you....

Hey guys, looking to add some MPH to my old Glasstream. I would like some recommendations on setup and propeller choices. The boat is a 1987 Glasstream 160V with a 1989 OMC V4 90hp. Not much info on...

Awesome. I'm not sure what prop I will need just yet. 15' Glasstream bass boat. 90hp V4. Looking to get 65mph out of it.
13 spline offerings are minimal, but seems you have a few for these 4.25"...
Yep, 9 pages. Read it a few times.
I'm playing with a 90hp v4 currently. Not a ton of info out there, but you can find some if you dig.
Ron Hill, you still making props for these 13 spline...
There is a break somewhere that I can’t reach. Going to pull a new wire. Ran through 6 or so full tanks this weekend. Boat runs great.
I will do that. Some 10 or 15 years ago some wires were fixed where a rat had gotten into them. I'm betting I have a butsplice somehwere that is corroded or loose.
25XS, Skip Baker, thank you. I will perform tests as you guys described.
This boat ran phenomenal yesterday. It is just a tick below 50mph with what I would bet is the 30 year old beat up OE...
Negative, Skip.
Skip Baker, it acts the same with both packs. I will swap it out again to make certain. Thank you for your help.
I understand this. And grounding it out while the engine is running will shut it off. I can ground that wire out, crank the engine, and the key will not cut the engine off until that connection is...
Well guys, I'm loaded up and headed to the river. The boat fired up and ran flawlessly on the hose yesterday. I verified timing and set the idle to ~1000RPM.
I've still got a problem with...
I like mixing gas and hauling azz myself. I get tickled at my friends who think four strokes are more reliable.
This is the old flywheel with a slipped magnet.

Yea it actually looks like they are glued on with some sort of epoxy.
Bought one on ebay. Not happy with how rusty it is, but will this affect how it operates? My previous flywheel had zero rust....
Thanks Tom. I gotta pick up a manual myself. I’ve got a used flywheel on the way
I like a Mercury myself and we are eyeballing a few Hydrostream/2.5 boats. This old boat kind of happened...
Skip Baker, ding ding ding. I had decided to pull that flywheel one more time and that is what I found. I pulled the magnet off with ease.
We have verified the timing with two lights now. It is definitely running north of 36 degrees (last mark on the flywheel)
You can tell the starter is struggling to work against the timing but it...
Turns out CDI electronics is right beside my office here in Huntsville. I will pay them a visit on Monday.
25XS. I will verify every cylinder with a flywheel mark. Just noticed your post. Thank you!
It starts and idles very easily.
TDC for cylinder 1/ flywheel verified.
Key no longer shuts engine down.
Good hot spark jumps a gap at all 4 plugs.
I think I may go dunk this thing in...
I have verified TDC. Removed flywheel last night. Replaced the timer base and the power pack. No change.
Are you sure it would be impossible to start at 40 degrees? I’m starting to wonder if my...
Also, timing has NEVER been adjusted. My dad is not a mechanic and he bought this boat new. Nothing has been adjusted or tinkered with. It ran fine for 30 years and then one day, it wont run well and...
I have verified that the crank to flywheel relationship has not changed. Woodruff key is not sheared. TDC marking on the Flywheel is in fact TDC on cylinder number 1.
Anyone?
Surely there is someone who has experienced timing be way out of whack? I can't find anything like this on the internet. Any advice at all is appreciated. Thanks
I'll let someone with way more experience then me give advice, but I just wanted to say it is awesome to see people doing this with the flatties still. I sure miss playing with mine.
Good luck to...
My dad and gradfather bought this Glasstream new in 89. This month it acted up on his first day of fishing vacation and he had enough. Went out and bought a new boat and gave the old one to me.
...
That would be awesome. Just being able to ask a question here and there would be helpful. I'm not trying to stay stock at all. I want to go all the way with this Merc. Just taking baby steps as I...
Yea the Edge and the Havoc boats are real nice. Ride kind of like a bass boat and I hear they can soak up some chop. They ain't cheap, but I can see the value in them for sure.
I hear ya and agree. Just working with what I got until I figure out what's next. Plan was to get a 15' Weldbilt with a small deadrise, but I'm going to learn up on these Thundercats first. They look...
It did pretty good yesterday. 44mph and stayed pretty flat. I didn't have anything but a fuel tank and a Gatorade so I was impressed that once she stepped up the bow stayed down. The whole boat kind...
So I haven't changed a thing since I last posted, but I'm going to take the boat out alone today and play some. Just hoping it handles about the same and doesn't bounce the bow too bad.
Might...
Dang! Yea you might want to just keep an eye peeled for a junked engine to pull the parts off of. That ain't far from what I gave for my whole engine nearly brand new.
The flywheel is marked down from $433 to $79 though haha. Seems pretty cheap for OEM new
Ok I see what you are saying. So for the fuel, I wouldn't think anything has to change, but with a dead battery I don't think the fuel enriching system will work, so you might want the manual primer....
I might be confused on what you are asking. All the parts in that diagram are needed and are available to order. My engine is a factory electric start converted to manual start.
That's what I'm hoping for Jeff. Pretty amazing how small of a detail can make such a big difference on the water. I've only built Jeeps and street cars up to this point so it's definitely been a...
I'll try to find the part numbers for you.

Looks like it could get expensive adding all...
Well, I got the Merc running like a top after a little tinkering. Idle mix wanted a little more fuel after syncing up all the butterflies on the carbs. Then adjusted the idle timing a bit and she...
Yea I think you right. Prob going to go with a shallow V style jon boat. Weldbilt or similar. River don't get too rough unless the weather real bad or a holiday with bunch of boats running around and...
Here is a pic to give you an idea of the boat bottom. It's just one big ole sheet of .125" with no corrugation. You can see if flexing and flopping at speed from inside the boat.

This...
I'll have to get a pic of the boat bottom. I don't think it's gonna work to well. It doesn't have a corrugated bottom like most. It has two reinforcement stringers that run long ways. 2 inside the...
I got the boat with me today. I'm gonna hit the water after work with an empty hull and see if I can drive through all the bow bouncing. Might drill some new holes in the jack plate tonight to see...
Man I can't believe you caught wind of this little thread lol. Look like most of yall have been gone from here for a few years at least.
Good to hear about the motor height. I had a feeling that...
I've also noticed some people saying they run over 6000 RPM's on these engines in stock form. I'm confused on how that's possible. I thought the biggest factor on RPM was the port height inside the...
Couldn't seem to get up into the powerband with the 19 pitch. A little bit surprised, but might be a little heavy and low on HP to turn that much with my engine so low in the water. Going to need to...
19p prop and new fuel tank are arriving today. Pretty anxious to see how the hull reacts. One detail I may not have mentioned is the engine is the gas assisted tilt version. No power trim, but if I...
I plan on finding a set of the 60 carbs. Sure wish Mr. Danny (1995US1) still offered the 66.6hp kit with carbs and all in one package. Port timing isn't too big a deal to me because I will eventually...
Yep, I guess I’m trying to have my cake and eat it too. I don’t have a second boat or ski or anything. I have my jon boat and I’d like to bust some tails on “jet ski Wednesday” and then take my girl...
Unless I'm mistaken that be pretty hard to do with my jack plate. The clamp that goes on top of the transom doesn't really touch anything. Engine has 3 heights for the 4 holes and they are on the...
