I agree with what hightide said . Also porting the reed block helps a little to.
If you do a search I think I had on old thread on it
Roflhat that chopper 1 I sold you was the best chopper I’ve had .
Tom had a chopper 2 with a et style cut and it ran real good to.
Merten marine still sell the Mercury cheap 2
Try forge marine on face book or pm rolfhat on here
Prolly a 100rpm +/-
When I had my merc 55 I ported mine like this
Nice!
Don’t worry about the serial number mate.
It’s the wme number your after.
I think wme 57 or 58 are 60 carbs will check later
52ci carbs will work on 59ci motas
If it’s bouncing, I’d check the bottom of your hull and make sure it’s straight. It might a have a rocker built into the hull .if it has it’ll be near impossible to stop..
If it’s straight a good Hi...
The 50hp have different port timing to the 60 hp. You can fit some after market reeds and remove the reed stops and run the washer style retaininer like the 60 hp. Also run the bigger carbs from 60...
What hp is your motor?
Can you post a pic of your boat
Hi mate you can get the gears lapped so they mesh together better . Haven’t heard about shimming tighter.
Haven’t tried tranny fluid in mine yet haven’t been brave enough. They reckon if you do you...
gees can't believe i typed that..
timing takes out 6* @ 5000 rpm taking it back to 18*
max timing is 24* for normal mercs and 22* for seepro's
found this searching forum for an old thread
Jeff , I like your epoxy idea . Sounds like a great way to test a bit of cupping .
I like the look of c , but don't take to much out of the leading edge till you try it.
Helps them breathe a bit better , one of the guys on here put me onto it.
Some guys make a little spacer plate up for them.
I fitted boysen on my sea pro years ago . Got a bit better excelleration topend pretty much stayed the same.
Currently running carbon reeds from hydro tech in mine , had Carson reeds in it prior to...
Get onto merten marine mate and get yourself a 18p chopper . There $325 I think.
That will get you over 50 mph and works well on v bottom hulls
I think Ron makes them to .
So is this face cup the opposite of doing a Texas cut?
I have a slt boat a good Texas cut prop runs real good . Rons face cup props drag there arse a bit out of the hole and top end. Trimmed the...
No worries mate, the timing takes out 2* @ 5000 rpm so goes from 24* back to 22*
Rev limiter is @ 5800
5800 rpm can disconnect it real easily
They just disconnect a wire on the tohatsu 50.
You'd be best off asking a tohatsu dealer about the 70 or try googling it
Dunno mate , pretty easy to disconnect on a 50 .
Be the first thing I'd look at if I was chasing a couple kph
Mate if it was me, I'd try disconnecting the rev limiter and leave the 15p on.
See how many more revs it's got in it. Might pick up a mile or 2
Stupid spell check on phone...
I ment sweet as in good
That's a decompression port in the sleeve. Some guys weld them up to increase compression. You can flute the side of a piston to open the ports earlier. Google it there's some pretty beet pics of...
Wow dose that pump enough water to keep the motor cool.
Great idea mate!
Maybe they were a secret weapon...
I nearly bought one in the early 90's but ended upwith a 25 mariner.
Has anyone ever ran the old force 25?
It was a 3 cyl cossflow from memory, ran the same 2.3/1 box like the mercs of that era .was a pretty compact lightweight motor.
You here a lot about the yams...
Mate, is your staino a solid hub or one of those new plastic hub styles like Michigan and merc ?
They all rattle at idle but when the revs pic up a bit they settle down .
What rpms dose it do it...
can you rehub 15 spline merc choppers and cleavers back to 13 spline using a omc hub?
thanks
Sharpening the back edge of the cup helps them grip a bit better to mate.
Great numbers for a tinny.
It would crack on one of those little junior mono's.
Nice job mate
A lot of guys don't run the stops either.
Mate, give Scotty's mobile marine a call up here at brissy. He can line you up with a nice set of carbon ones.
Hi , I want to remove the oil injection gear from a 59ci 60 merc. Dose anyone know how to remove them .
Thanks
thanks mate , i didn't realize they had a shorter stroke.
dose anyone know if a 52ci merc crank will fit in a 59ci motor?
also dose anyone know the bore a stroke of a 52ci motor?
thanks
i've been having a hell of a lot of dramas with my 1.64/ 1 merc box .... its only when i run my 12 x 20p merc cleaver .
the prop has been balanced and only seems to give me grief when it its catches...
i forgot to ask are you running 1up or 2up ?
1up you should easy get well over 50mph .
if your 2up maybe the 18 is to much pitch .
guys like to run a 16g yam or powertech 16p on stockish motors...
also i wouldn't cut on the prop just yet . most guy's run from 11 to 12 inch diameter.
i'd get get the prop scanned to see what pitch it is first before cutting on it.
you got to raise the motor right up as high as it will go and still pump water mate. cleavers don't like to run to deep .
if you want the boat to be fast , you got to jack that motor up!
check this...
yeah mate , thats one thing i've heard a lot of.
thanks for the info
yeah mate its a blind bore 59 ci merc motor.
i just use it for fun fanging round with my mates
standard bore is 2.993 stroke is 2.795
yeah i pull the plugs after each trip,
thanks
thanks mate, what about a low rever like mine ? it likes to sit around 5300/5800 tops.
i run longer plugs , with a couple extra washers so the plugs sit further in the dome giving me a bit more...
do you get much of a gain by boring out your cylinders?
would goin from a standard bore size to a .030 or .040 give you much more performance ?
thanks
59 sleeves in a 51.8 ? Is there a difference in port timing?
Q
thanks mate
a mate over here bought 55 seapro merc thinking it was a 59 ci motor , but it turns out its 52 . its a 96 model. are they any good to mod ?
fred the 55 merc mertens used to run was it a 52ci ?...
you can cut it off mate, then power slide around the bends .you'l pick up some topend to.
may void the warranty on your hull though.
forgot to mention we used to run with a couple dogs in our boats...
