well i can honestly say that my chris carson reeds have done more than 4 hrs....
ok so the chris carson reeds are fitted and trialled..... no lean sneeze and after a plug chop all appears well at WOT, seems a little punchier in the mid range, no increase in max revs but a 1.1mph...
nope its a twin cyl same as my 40hp they certainly scream! mine will turn to 6800rpm!
so i;m gonna need a bigger motor or more power.......
6680rpm this afternoon(tiny tach) and running at 46mph dead(gps) boat weighs 165lbs, motor weighs about 125lbs, i weigh in at about 200lbs. prop is a 10.1/8x15p stainless, ballistic prop
i'm running a 10.1/8x15p ballistic prop at 6600rpm she's running 46mph, considering the powertech 10.25x16p semi cleaver. she's just ventilating at WOT at current trim, its forecast flat calm...
ere's what i'm thinking......(its not much but hey!) the 6e9 twin 40hp that i'm running on my SLT cat has a gearbox that is 2:1 (2 turns flywheel to 1 turn prop) now i know that some yammy 40's had a...
i'll put them in and see if i get lean sneeze, if i do ill come out a half turn to cure it.
got a very fast reply!
No use the stock hardware when installing them and use the stock jetting too.. If you like you or I can open the cages up it's your call..
now thats what i call customer...
i'll rattle off an email to chris and see what he says!
as i'm turning my otherwise stock 6E9(C40) twin yamaha/mariner at 6500 rpm i realised that i need to run some fibre reeds as the stock ones wouldn't last long, with that in mind i'm ordering a set...
^^ now why didnt i think of that.......:D
the gear ratio is the question! it depends who made what for who wether its 1.83 or 2.0 to 1 only a strip and count of the teeth will prove it! i think i'm deffo gonna order a set of reeds of chris...
i think wot for the 6e9 is 5500 rpm, i havent touched the std timing settings yet either, all i'm doing is running a little more oil than normal and trying to not hold full throttle for extended...
so i went out this evening and at a gps reading of 46mph i'm doing 6450 rpm.......
how long is the motor gonna last revving it that hard??
well i've a tiny tach in my hand and my gps is fixed so all i need now is a bit of weather trhis weekend and ill post up revs and speeds etc!
its a 6E9 mariner twin, i'd love one of rons choppers! i know it would be fast in a straight line but what about turning?, i reckon i'll have to see if anyone has a 17p trad prop that will fit and...
46mph was with the gps, ratio not sure either 2.0:1 or 1.85:1(depends if its a merc or yami mariner!)revs i'll have to assume that its WOT 5600rpm, no tach but she's absolutely singing!!:D
i'm running a 15p, 10.25" dia stainless ballistic prop on my zapcat with a 40hp mariner, all up the whole package weighs about 170kg, its running at 46mph flat out. i ca get the prop tweaked/worked...
well chris has reeds for me so ill order them on payday (next thurs) and we'll see what happens!
spot on thanks!! just emailed him so we'll see what the response is!
can anyone recommend a set of reeds for this motor? (6E9) ive had a look around but cant seem to find any?
well after some delay i took off what i could from the flywheel last night and it weighed in at aboult a pound!! seems small but should make a bit of a difference. picked up a ballistic prop as well,...
did a long trip today and glad i didnt do the mod after all, how the heck do you "find" 5 complete 2cyl,40hp yamaha powerheads? oh and what do you mean by big carbs and pistons? me being a bit dumb...
well whatever it is ;) it looks fast!! what's the evinrude on the back of her? sure looks big....
thanks fast fred!! getting 46mph at the moment, and waiting for a stainless ballistic prop to come:( more power would be nice but i'm not working right now so i'll have to make do with what i've...
i'm running a yam/mariner 40 twin on a zapcat like yours!! she gets a bit tank slappy in the chop....is that a pro-comp damper on yours? i have a few small/med shock absorbers here i'll head in the...
eh? any pictures for referance? ( and some details on your damper set up! tried to pm you but your inbox is full!!)
following on from my modding a 40 twin, i would like to hear my motor scream so i was thinking about modding the lower leg to make it an over water exhaust, would there be any reasons not to? :D
as i've a twin 40 mariner/yammy i'll be watching this thread with interest!
sensible head says do just that! BUT there is a little bit of me that gets a kick out of modding something like my twin, i can get the head skimmed for very little and lightening the flywheel and...
your preaching to the converted! trouble is i reckon there are only maybe 15-20 low water pick ups in the country and the smallest would be on a 175merc, as for finding a small cleaver or semi...
few pics of the boat! its about 13feet long and 7 feet wide and wieghs about 220lbs they are rated for up to 70hp:eek:
and for those that want more info
http://www.zapcat-racing.com/Home.aspx ( if...
one thing i do think i have to change though, i think i have too much positive trim on the motor as flat out she was starting to ventilate, i'm gonna try a 3/8th shim in the motor clamp at the top of...
ill be out later and ill get pics then for you, there are no rules as i'm not racing!
with the standard 15p mariner/yammy ali rabbit ear prop i was doing a gps speed of 45.9mph, not bad for a 40hp twin i think! going to borrow a semi cleaver type and see what she does then!
ah (light bulb goes on) mic as in micrometer!!!! i'll pull the carbs during the week and measure the bore size and post up jet sizes etc. while the carbs are off i'll look at the reed stops as well.
now were getting somewhere! thanks lads! erm daft question 88workcar what do you mean by mic? think that i'm losing something in the translation this side of the atlantic.....!!!
i was actualy...
so how much would you remove then? :)
hallelujah!! a reply to my question that doesn't start with "trade your motor" .... she's running at 135psi at the moment. how much is the norm for milling the head? presume a couple of thou would do...
lads i'm looking for a bit of help and advice on a few simple mods i can make to my 40hp yamaha twin (6E9 model). ive had a root around the "normal" outboard forums and the advice is always "if you...
