Nobody ever got more power than Anthony McC.
Fuel coming in the front increases volumetric efficiency by evaporating and cooling the air causing the air to contract.
I don't understand
The old Detroit Diesel that went into production as the Gray Marine motor sometime around 1930 and sold as Detroits starting in 1938. The design was a supercharged 2 stroke with intake ports and cam...
It does not blow thru because the turbine holds it back.
That's the big advantage of turbos vs mechanical superchargers that have nothing to hold the charge pressure in.
With the turbo, it is...
Looking forward to more once you are certain of the set up
Video!! :):):)
I bet this doesn't go .... "eeeeeeee-oooonnnnNNNNN" when the prop catches and it gets on plane .... just "EEEEEEEEEE"
We will want video of that!
I predict that the turbo will spool...
Yeah ... the motor of my dreams. Might make as much power as a 500 or 700 cc alky with a little development.
What is the oil pump?
I never said put them in mod ... you are reading more into the words than they are.
Please do not say that I said things I did not say
Tim, I think the ban on turbos should be lifted. Their price is now low enough to justify them in a class other than X. Some kind of handicapping of course, but it would be very interesting to see...
It would suck exhaust out, but it would end up lowering the pressure in the cylinder. Torque and resulting horsepower is increased by increasing cylinder pressure.
Raising ports allows a motor to...
There was a guy who posted on Screamandfly a few years ago who used one of those on a 44. His set up was successful.
On the cheap side I have often wondered if junk yard car turbos and power tilt...
This one is probably just about the same ... its the one I use:

That's why speed records are the average of 2 ways
OK, you made me do my homework ... this is what I learned:
This means that once in a while, but not very often, you will get a reading that is so far off you will know it has to be wrong.
...
Let me pose a question ... wouldn't std GPS "inaccuracy" result in lack of repeatability of results rather than significant greatest speed errors that consistently repeated regardless of location and...
I like the expression that GPS's are so heavy they slow boats down
Some friends of mine on an extremely competitive race team that runs a lot of classes were stunned that almost all their boats...
You need to run a GPS with a data logger ... you loose more than you think in the turns ... GPS tells the truth
The current record is only 86. A 15 mph increase of the average speed would be incredible.
I'm going to do a thread split
Like I said, the rules do not allow a sleeved down block that is not recognized as a regular legal block.
Even if the minor shape differences are ignored, the 56 block was made using the lost foam...
If I were an inspector in mod, I would DQ the 56 block because it is visibly different from the legal 49 ci block.
Don't the rules say you must start with and present for inspection what is...
3 cylinder motors & their racing class is being discussed, on post 441 as on post 1
If Fred asks me to break the 3 cylinder racing class stuff out to another thread, I will do so.
About 100...
Talk to the insurance guys
Hopefully Vickie will bring her boat to the Nationals and let John or Tony show you what has changed in the past 12 years.
So the consensus is that the class should go on as is until it is gone.
Personally I'd rather see the brilliant innovation and cool tricks continue a bit longer than the current trend suggests.
I just checked 2009 High Points ... Looks like between CA & OR you have 9 not including yourself ... but you only had one race for points all year.
Cheney that's dinosaur thinking.
Continually faster and more expensive = fewer racers. 100+ average speeds = capsules. Capsules = even fewer racers. First FEH will only run at the Nationals and...
The way I read the rule book it is legal.
The rule book says you must present a block that is recognizable as one of the 850/FE motors and certain "made for racing" parts are not allowed. But...
Looks good Cheney
I bet the unseen end of the steering line is going to the tiller ... all the rest of the steering rigging is torque amplification from the tiller input, so he is still steering via the tiller, but...
Latent heat of evaporation of AV gas is essentially the same as street gas
Don't use hose ... it will not conduct the heat from the fuel. Best to use aluminum tubing heating contractors use for gas pilot lines.
Go to a heating supply wholesaler and ask for "3/8 aluminum...
45 degrees on the water ... I need insulation:D
Thanks, that was plan A anyway ... was just hoping someone already knew. My guess would be that the level you see when you remove the top will be slightly lower than it was when the float was pushing...
I'm an AC/Refrigeration mechanic ... I use latent heat of evaporation every day, this is actually about "sensible" heat. The latent heat of evaporation is unchanged.
Do you know the correct fuel...
Thanks for the diagram, Tim.
I have been considering a cool can for 850, but could not figure out how to really get enough BTU's removed from the bowls and lines without a lot of bulky...
I had to think about it for a long while. I think it is most likely that the compression is varied from cylinder to cylinder due to uneven cooling in the head and block. Other manufacturers have...
And then dropping the CR 3 more notches to compensate for the fact that they can not control what boat the motor will be used on
Neither explains why it would make more power. Hopefully Mr Nerstrom will get back to us with the answer.
Wasn't Dave Scott trying to round up an order of special Merc pistons last year? I think Wiesco's minimum was 100 units at something like $125 each. I think that gets you in the ball park
Carry on here!
