That was during the period that Don was working with us on the Jesse James Super Boat project right after Mark Lavin's death. Billy Don had endured some urinary issues a few years before and...
If it is an OMC Canada boat that is possibly the lay down drive tunnel hull that Spencer Dunn blew over at Welland Canal.
Yes Bob Hering is the guy who started Hering Propellers and the company was sold a few years back. I believe his son is still running the operation. As far as the 200 mph cats are concerned, while...
I'm not sure about this but I thought Renato's contract was allowed to expire by Mercury when GG decided to back Seebold and Velden hulls giving them access to boats on both continents without the...
Bob also drove all 9 hours at the Orange Bowl Regatta and won there as well.... He earned the nickname "Iron Man" for that one. He had a little help, for what it's worth. Bob had developed a shock...

Not possible. This was all down well before the internet started. There were no provisions to harness hot air from a world wide computer network built into the concept....but it certainly...
John:
Ahhh yes the Methane gas moment, you only heard Edgar's earlier secret tapes after his bratwurst and beans dinner...... The hydrogen part came later in the design process..... :)
Actually it converted water to hydrogen.....so the faster it went, the more fuel it received directly from its cooling system....
agreed ;)
Ron was that a 16 foot Glastron.....or a 17 footer? I always remember you driving a 17 footer...

These were real ultra hush hush motors..... not even Charlie Strang or Jack Leek knew about the project.......
Edgar Rose hid the prototypes away so thoroughly that 2 days later even he couldn't...
Read my sentence again carefully......."2 liter, rotary, V10, turbine OMC"........
Jackie is much more knowledgeable about this project than I am.......:p
We have lost a true innovator......

1971........ At the height of the Cold War.....
Maybe Boat racers should run the world....
We could fix any problem with bungee cord, duct tape, and beer.

Do you have any shots of Dick O'Dea's Jones tunnel running at Valleyfield with his 7 liter/Mercruiser II?....possibly 1977? I believe Johnny Yale was running it and blew over running down the front...
Jackie and Rotary John at OFF 2010, conspiring to reveal the secrets behind the legendary 2 liter Rotary, V-10, Turbine OMC that only Renato Molinari was allowed to test drive. This engine would have...

I presume this is what you are referring to.......?

Looks like a great concept........... and lends itself to a...
Jackie:
Between us and Chris Craft, who built a later variant of the design (The "Chris Cat"), there were as many pleasure boat versions of the Shadow Cat hull as race boats....and we sold...
Lars:
Interesting to see the Molinari/Konig in 1977. Didn't OMC have some form of exclusive agreement with Molinari, or was that only in the US?
Now all you need is the Cobra..........
I was referring to the standards. We put small individual OPC sized capsules in the Jesse James cockpit in 1986 and they were modeled after the early tunnel hull versions, but they offered no real...
Bernie Little started the capsules when he put F-16 canopies on his Unlimiteds in 1985. We had the first set in Offshore ready for installation on our 35" Conquest Cat, Jesse James in late 1986, when...
Even though the Shadow Cat was designed specifically for the biggest outboards, we were forced to turn to inboard power to make them live up to their potential....As a died in the wool outboard racer...
Sorry Jackie but there were a bunch of hulls capable of handling the big V-8's. We built one of the first, the Shadow Cat, which was designed in 1979 specifically for the T-4's and promised V-8's....
Doug Pearl..........
SJ evolved into something that seperated the boat racers from the posers in a hurry. You had to be on top of your game, setup, props etc to the point where only the most...
Based on the condition of that hull, Mike probably can't either......:D
Please....continue......
I am amazed about how open you always have been concerning engine manufacturers. I felt like I became a Communist the one year that I ran OMC's.......... The thought of...
What about the Chryslers? Granted one Chrysler cubic inch was worth about .8/cu.in of Merc or OMC, but they were bigger than the 630's. :D
May God Bless the entire Berghauer family in this time of sadness.

I'm not so sure about that. The hulls seemed to flip less and less as the motors got bigger and the courses were shortened. The earlier races had more than their share of fatalities. Almost everybody...
You are also invited to the second annual OFF (Old Farts Forever) meeting from October 14th through the 18th in Jupiter, Florida. This event hosted by Steve Sirois(Bill's brother) and Jim Hauser was...
Being from the east, I raced with (against) Geoff Briggs frequently. He was so different from Timmy that they almost seemed to come from separate gene pools. Tim was this handsome, polished guy,...
Thanks John:
The 115 came out after the Merc 1100 which was the first true "J" class engine at over 90 cubes...... but, now that I think of it, Mercury had some reason for bringing out the 1000...
Did OMC make a UI race motor (80-89 cu in)? My memory is fading but I can't recall anything but Merc's in that class.

Was Rudy a member of the old "Speedmasters" racing team out of Maryland?

They didn't........ Check Willabee's post. They came in Black...or you could order another color....and get Black.
One guy paints his center sections and lowers and it becomes an urban legend....
I saw those motors.... no way they were factory originals. Ted referred to them as "T2x's" and when I challenged him, he replied "What's the difference?". I explained in detail the (obvious)...
At best...... :p
6 running 20's....
1. Mine
2. Double Eagle
3. "Eddies"...in progress
4. yours?
5. ?
6. ?
A bunch of us have been searching for these things for years.....
I'm lucky enough to have one, and the others, even the barely saveable "scraps", have all been snapped up....or at least located...
Wanna bet?........
It's the boat in his avatar......
Based only on pictures that I have seen I estimate the number of Wood wings at 5 (I may be forgetting one). 1. The original 2. Miss Bonadettes, 3. the ugly "V" wing, 4. Miss Skyway, 5. the "Gulfwind...
My clearest memory of the Geechee was at the heat races at Smith Mountain Lake in '68 or '69. Bucky Morris and Bob Van Epps hooked up in a race for the ages...Van Epps in a little wood Sidewinder...

My annual Best Wishes to the neatest people on the planet...........
I am proud to know all of you...and even prouder to be one of you.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good prop.

Schubert, O'Dea, Shedell, etc...... We OPC. guys in the northeast were in awe of them prior to Schubert and O'Dea getting into OPC.

Merry Christmas John.

Ron/Willabee:
In the spirit of the season why can't we all just get along?
Ron is very loyal to OMC and Willabee is very loyal to Mercury.......
Having driven both brands, I can see both...
