I am "assuming" your motor is a 4 stroke? If so, that chatter is common for certain motors...........thats why there are special prop hubs for 4 strokes nowadays.......what brand motor do you have?

I am sure you are aware, but those Mercury black stators (with low and high speed windings) are very prone to failure on the high speed side, thats why they switched over to the "red stator", which...
the "other guy" is Ralph Hildebrand......and the Hallum/Walin record setting B Anzani......
look familiar Smitty??? From Last night at the SOA Commodores Ball.......
run 135's in all 3 carbs............I run 32:1................what heat range plugs are you running? How much is shaved off the head? I build lots of the M50 Tohatsu's for racing..
one day I will post a picture of the Anzani, as it still sits in our showroom...
163 or 165 main jets?
yep, only difference between the 9.9 and the 15hp is the reed block......

provide the engine serial number and I can tell you exactly the year of the motor..
mid 85 to 86
if it IS a 9.9 gearcase (made from 86-2005), it is the same unit used under the 6/8/9.9/15's.............why would you want to use it under a 20 Rude? The driveshaft is about half the size as the 20...
since the factory water pickup is under the cav plate on that lower unit, you are gunna have to drill into the housing to get to the backside of the lower water pump housing, in order to feed water...
carb and tuner pipe.......same situation as Merc 9.9/15
the APBA Pro Nationals will be held in Tennessee in July.....

best thread ever!!! Thanks for posting the amazing work you are doing!!!
try the timing light plug wire clamp on a different cylinder (plug wire), just to see if the numbers stay consistant (even though not aligned with timing mark). If they do, then you could have a weak...
its definately from a 50....................I can't use a tuner in my motors (APBA Bass Tohatsu).......
is this what your looking for?
I might have one..............will ck tommorrow
Montoya sells 3 wire kill switches for the Yamato 302. Or, you can use 2 kill switches or buy a dual input blocking diode and run the wires from each coil (2) into the blocking diode and use 1...
[QUOTE=Kfm90;117756]Can a mercury big tiller and kit with power steering be installed and function properly on a 2000 model 90 hp 2 stroke ? I'm presently running the old style tiller but would like...
unless you can find the carbs cheap enough (mind you a LOT of 40 owners are looking for 50/60 carbs cheap), I would would work more on setup/props............I would remove the reed stops...
the difference between the 40 and 50 is the carbs of course and the 40 has reed stops, the 50 does not. The 60 has a complete different exhaust tuner/housing/adaptor assy (much larger in...
pretty much all the manufacturers do the same thing on all their same displacement motors...............computer (ECU/PCM, ECM, EMM, etc) and restrictor.................from what I recall, it is ALOT...
Bill, I do have to apologize for not calling you back last year on your issue. What did you find to be the problem/problems???
PS: I owe you one!
Bill, when any of these pulse operated fuel pumps have a diaphragm rupture/tear, etc, the excess fuel will flood the cylinder the pulse (not vacuum as stated) is drawn from..............Yamahas are...
Phil, are the Merc pistons you have the small or large wrist pin type??? Wiseco made?
30hp 3cyl what?????? brand?
Wiseco's are indeed a FORGED piston and require a little more clearance than a cast pistons. The break in procedure is VERY critical with Wiseco's. As to which is better, well that depends on the...
you need the 15hp carb and exhaust tuner................any year will work..........
PS: if your motor has a "squarish" type tiller handle, it is a 94 or newer, if the tiller handle is round, the...
nope, Merc(Mariner) never made a counter rotation lower unit for that motor............not until the V6's...................best to play with trim tab adjustments or add hydraulic steering, if he is...
it could with the proper powerhead adaptor plate (assuming you wanna run the exhaust through the tower), but would be an overkill for that small of a motor!!!!! The OMC A/Sidewinder gearcase would...
the 120/125 is a 4cyl, the 150 is the 5cyl..............the 125 has a terrible ignition system..........they also eat up motor mounts and the exhaust bellows is often torn......thus causing the...
no, its not a "half breed", its all Mercury built.............if interested, I have a nice L4(100-125hp) lower unit that might help your friend out............PM me, if interested.....
if you want "bolt on" carbs......the KC carbs from the late 60's 65hp 4cyl will bolt on your 44 Merc, not the WM's from the 65hp 3cyl motor........
as to putting the bigger carbs on a JET...
disconnect the bullet connector behind the CDI box and tape both ends............
Jim Ruck is the man to "smash it"............
testing and actual race course speeds are quite different..........I usually show 3-4MPH faster testing.............but anyways, get that rig together and bring it to Fall Lawrence ( I should have my...
OK now, I was running right around 80 ish with my STOCK Tohatsu at Moses, running with you FE guys and you did not have 20MPH on me there, so what gives????
BTW......my Digitron temp shows 245...
that serial number is for an 86 35hp...............post a picture and I can tell you the year of the motor..........if it is indeed a 30hp, then is it fairly new, but not with that serial...
I completely agree! Seen it happen twice before. One Yamaha customer accidently (parts dept fault) bought a left hand prop and decided instead of ruining his weekend of boating, put the motor in...
set #1 at .014, then use your buzz box to set the timing (I set mine at .240) and lock the mag down, then set the timing (when the points open)for the bottom set of points at (again mine were at...
Pull!
FYI............I would not be so concerned about CG, etc right now with new comers..............they need to learn how to make starts, turn and get a "feeling" for the boat...........only way to do...
I am sorry to see Norm go, he was a great guy, excellant mentor for new drivers and all in all GREAT PERSON for local boat racing.
