So I were lucky with my 1964 90hp then :) , it's running 40 miles an hour on an non performance boat, can't get it over 40.00 miles thou .

The gear will work just fine, but how about the bearings ?? usually the forward gear got a nice big bearing behind it to support the forward thrust, but the reverse gear only got a simple bushing.

Didn't the short shafted 73 1500 blocks have a more aggressive porting than the long shaft engines, also known as the "J" block, same ( or close ) porting as the later 1500XS ??.

First a power ported piston, then a non PP cylinder (Merc 1400, 1972), last picture shows a PP cylinder .
Mercury used power ports on the 1973 > 1977 Merc 1500 ( + 1500XS up...

I got a question about the shape/thickness on the skeg on my speedmaster, I cleaned the case and found a large buildup of bondo to build up the thickness in the front of the skeg, is this original...

Not the first time I have heard than sentence :) , looks like I got some problems with my ears ......already bean looking on some V6 engines.
But I got some extra reed blocks ,so I will try to...
The plan was to make some "adjustment" on the reed blocks ,witch leads to the need of some slightly bigger reeds .
+ Got some negative feedback on Boyesen reeds used on a inline .
