That loose sensor magnet sure dates me - never worked on a V4 with that arrangement, all were cast into the flywheel!

Try finding TDC and then checking timing on another cylinder, You may have a crossfiring power pack. If the motor is at 40 + degrees (vs 28 max advance at WOT) It would be impossible to start!
Gear ratio of the small 40-60HP gearcase is way too low to adapt to the 3 cylinder, even if you did a 2 piece D/S setup. In the day we ran the same propeller for SD as SE, 2 vastly different (45cid...
116 wasn't hardly possible with any gearcase on any v4! Barry woods ran the kilos at Modesto with a KR motor (or something resembling it!) at 116, i remember that.
I was able to achieve such...
Jeff is Stu's younger brother.
In reference to John Alden - - My friend Stu Lowe from Mercer Island WA gave him a run for the $$ in BOH. It was a crap shoot as to who would win. We blew up a bunch of Hot rods doing this. We had to...
This 20h has a very small "1956" steel stamped between the model and serial number on the id plate.
Serial number 790039
pretty sure it has the original gearcase. :D
Regarding propellers for Mercury "classic" racing motors over the years ~~
I know this is a pretty generalized request. I have a box full of propellers from over the years, but have no clue where...
Here is one unmolested original 56 with the long skeg.

AMEN to that, I bought a Beemer in 2003, worst P O S I ever had.
There's a TON of old Chryslers and FORCES (kudos to Orin Edsons' Bayliner organizations marketing) still running out there. Mercury...
One of my customers sent me this series of pictures of an evidently nearly ready for production Chrysler V6! He's in Canada, not the owner.
The owner of this must be one of you guys, can you shed...
Lots of work to do on this one.:D
Fortunately there is a reasonable supply of Speeditwin parts around. Racing parts of your motor are intact. The cracked cylinder could be brazed back and honed,...
P-50 is a service 30CID from 1930. This the 1st year for that model. VR45 and SR45 were 1929 emissions with a full speed rotary valve. each year the model went up by 5, sp 1 "65" would be a 1933.
...
There's no numbers on it anywhere that I can find. The bracket is newer, the plate has been removed.
BTW, I have finished up a 3rd motor, a PR65. I have no history on this one, it came from a...
 Au contraire, noones worn out a fiberglass boat yet!
http://forums.bateau2.com/viewforum.php?f=10
Go here for help and see other folks bring glass boats back from the dead, as well as...
It's a shortshaft boat. I posted a pic at Johns site.
The entire inside was gutted and rebuilt with Meranti and spruce, the bottom is STRAIGHT.
Called Chris, sounds reasonable. Yeah, I'd hate to ruin this thing.
"Do what you do do well, leave the rest to the other doers"
Would it be reasonable to cut the driveshaft off and use a...
Thanks Bill, appreciate the info. Here are a couple pics. It looks like this thing may be in decent shape. I just want to fix it up enough for a possible recreational run someday and have it around...
I remember a thread here (maybe by Lars Strom??) on care and feeding of these lowers, but cant find it.
Well Monday I was able to find a gearcase # 608RH that was seized up and got it for a...
This is tricky, twice I thought I had too lean on carbs but was really too rich. I agree with that theory, lean it down.
No OMC 2 cyl loopers were built without a thermostat. The 71 thru 88 have a stat and poppet in the bottom of the head. Later "Lost foam" heads the stat is up top, under that plastic plug.
Looks...
Check the carburetor pickup roller assembly, the portion mounted on the manifold with a screwed in pin. It is probably sticking and not allowing the carburetor butterfly to close completely at slower...
The part they left out was how really dangerous these boats were in the day. I recall at Havasu it was nothing to have several drivers badly injured or even killed.:eek: Such slaughter would...
62 - 68 OMC V4 electric shift, 75 thru 85HP.:)
That trim is a mechanical unit that coupled to a 2 piece ring that clamped around the bottom of a KC V4 swivel bracket.
Tried that on my Mod 50. It was like either all or nothing! Imagine locking up your brakes every time you wanted to slow your car. I never ran them in a race.
I stand corrected, the later pistons with 3/4" pins will NOT work in the KC motor :(
, the wrist pin was relocated, longer rod used.
KR has 3/4" pins already.
Unique, was made from a 1972 style block which had a 16 roller crank, it was routed out to clear 18 roller rods. Most interesting porting, has a half moon out of the skirt on the intake side and...
This motor used 5/8" wrist pin press fit pistons, same as a 58 50HP. Crap. They hammered out pin boss, the snap rings came out and pins dropped, troweled the sleeves, rings came off and hammered up...
1ST picture is Dick Sharp # 157 in the Glas Moly, don't know who in the # 99 dual stacker sidewinder - Camas Washington 1970
2nd pic is Barry Woods 335 in a "Marathon", foreground...
Timed at 19 degrees BTDC, different carbs, the beveled ports and high compression head.:)
At the 1973 "225" held in Seattle on the unlimited course. I was doing pretty well until, on one of those big turns, my fuel pickup was starved and I ran out of gas! This was probably the best boat I...
There was only 1 Glas Moly in Region, belonged to Dick Sharp. I THINK I may have 1 pic, will keep digging. Don't have anything else for Deibert, sorry. Here's a good shot of Bill Glennon Next to...
Herewith some shots of early years in the Northwest. "NOMA" (Northwest Outboard Marathon Club) started out as wildcat racing and then APBA sanctioned. I raced there from 1970 thru 1983.
1st picture...
There is a renaissance of the old Quincy and other early mod stuff going on. When I raced up in Seattle area, region 10 it was the heyday of all this "alky" stuff. I remember ELIMINATIONS in F hydro!...
NOPE! Big brass ones. :D
Thanks, with all the confusion I decided to just leave the steel reeds in the motors.
a 3rd port job will alleviate the breathing problem.
As to "OMC" I was an Evinrude dealer from 68...
I ordered in some Boyesen B241-16 reeds for a couple of old Mercs I am working on. According to their catalog they should work on these motors. They are not even close, see the pic. In contacting...
Attached some pics of the SR all ready to go.:D
This thing is a work of art, everything has been done that you can imagine. The gearcase is Wiseco. I used up my last new Vacturi on it, the VR...
That will be a tall order. I had one once but foolishly let it go. :(
They are Speeditwin based but have a dual rotary valve and pressure oiling. Later models are the famous "hex head".
Watch...
I have a much better one, no folds and in color. I'll look for it tonight.
That blunt 1:1 would blow out and set you sideways. I made an epoxy nose cone for mine.
Was good for well over 100...
The picture is of yours truly about 1957 with a "Thunder Bay" 12 foot glass boat with a wood deck. I think it came from Canada. Motor is a KF-9. I had a MARK 40 too, it was 100% faster then the KF....
Just finished up restoring this motor. it is a 1934 Evinrude speeditwin modified for C service.:)
Originally owned and raced by Sid Sato in the Pacific Northwest.
I embellished it some with an...
Looper and Speeditwin pistons were glass bead blasted, the 4 "D" pistons were just trued by Doug Kay so I just cleaned them (and the others too) with MEK B4 I sprayed them. Just used small gun, it...
Here's the promised pictures. Hope you enjoy them. I'll post more C service pics and an SR50 as well under antiques.:)
I went for it and bought a quart of epoxy moly coat for pistons.:) The company provides the same stuff to Chrysler for V8 pistons, etc.
Coated a pair of Wiseco 56CID OMC Looper pistons, 2 for my C...
Bought my X-115 brand new for $1300.00 and set up a UI rig. My 1st effort at OPC. Boat is a renovated "Sidewinder" I bought as junk and rebuilt with a lot of help from Bob Rhoades and Jim Daniels....
I have some of this product and have applied same to this motor. Will try the zerk in a spark plug after it soaks for awhile. Motor stopped at TDC (or was set away after timing) so one cylinder is at...
Thanks for the replys.
I am tearing the motor completely down, have the crankcase cover off and pulled the upper end cap so far. There are no signs of any rust at all. Rods are free on the...
I acquired an old Mark 50 alky modified powerhead that sat for years with castor oil and is thoroughly stuck. It's a really trick block and worth restoring. Anyone out there that can tell me what...
