The carbs are a waist of time if you don't work the reeds also. You need 40/50 cages (Yamaha) no stops and CCM reeds. I would also file the extra screw piece sticking through the throttle bar. I do...
send me your number, 985-519-0367
Love reading the old stuff, I have since built a 42ci mild build. It made 69hp and spun to 8200. Stock bore stock stroke, If I spend a little time on r&d there is more there.
Have you disconnected the external harness, if not, do so. Then use the brown on the start solenoid. Pull it loose and just touch it to the hot side, and check fire
I have Mike's shop number but have not reached him, left a few messages.
I would like to speak to a few of you guys, I'm in Louisiana, text me your numbers if you will, just text your name. I can talk best from 5am to 4pm mon-fri if that works for any of you. I have to...
I have ported several Yamaha and Merc 4 stroke heads, we have had decent success so far. The valve springs are weak, the ECU mod would be awesome
Tim! you hacking my post? lol. I miss reading and seeing some of your stuff.
I humbly invite you to our races sir, the more the merrier.
1st thing to do is check the squish. This will give you an idea. That would be a simple shave. Now regardless of squish you can shave and re-chamber it also. That process is much more involved.
9.40s at 890+ lbs in 660' With a 3 cyl engine, idle in gear take off, no power adder, pump gas. Come on dude you didn't put much thought into that comment.
COMPLETE rig strait out of the water, had to weigh 880lbs Driver, helmet, jacket ect.. AS RACED
You also have the option of using any case that bolts up. Cut the drive shaft, cut a 6 side hex on the top two inches. Cut the spline (TOP) of a 70 shaft, weld a impact socket onto the 70 end and...
We just had our 1st race, last weekend. The winning rig at 894lbs with a 90 Yamaha ran a 9.46 on a stopwatch checked by many. We had 4 boats in our class, 56 total. It was a good time and I am...
I have only heard of a 49ci 40/50 Yamaha. I also heard that you can go bigger but 49 was safest. Build it and see. A CES shares the lower with a 40/50. So you still have 52ci on top of the same...
THAT, engine had a limited production. They are not everywhere like other models. I would suggest swapping that out to a 3cyl 30. The 3cyl has a better support system to mod from. People have done...
Why limit yourself to 49ci? And no sir it will not be superior. I have a few 52ci spinning 8400rpm and making gobbs of power, a hot 42 don't stand a chance to that.
All of the above. Stay away from exhaust or keep it to a minimum. You can't give up bottom end.
The head can be milled a lot more than .125
Carbs are fine, don't waist you time and money on Hydrotech on a 90 Yamaha. 7500rpm and all the power you want.
I have the rope start and cowl, I think the shipping will be massive.
Very nice! 70 with 90 carbs, light flywheel. and I am sure more than the obvious. Should scream. I am building one just like it on a 12" mid right now.
I will suggest do not touch the tuner. Most of what you hear and see for tuners is bull. Start with compression and 40hp reed cages with CCM reeds. Then porting and rework the compression again then ...
If you have not done anything else, that is not the place to start. Save them for later. It slowed down becuase you don't need it right now. I will help if you jet those down a little.
good deal!
You have not asked about your next problem. Fuel pump! The Tohatsu pump is on the carb, the Yamaha is not. You will need a pump, any external vacume style pump. The 70 Yamaha one is a good choice....
Tyst67 is correct. Boat and set up are first. 400lb is a lot of boat for a 40 to be going fast. Is that your only hull choice? Please put a picture.
I live between you two. Call me Nason I will go with yall.
Any 40/50 that will bolt will work.
I agree 100%
no, you have to build a adapter
Yes you can put a 70 powerhead on a 40 mid, you have to build an adapter plate. It is some work and takes a little longer to pull the powerhead if needed but it is actually common.
Yes 2.33
You are on the right track! CCM reeds, but put them on 40hp yamaha cages. I may have a set. Yes on the flywheel, many shops can do it, I can if you need. you need a set of 40 tohatsu carbs. And on...
All the basics work on this engine, compression, CCM reeds tell Chris I sent you, Do not mod the reed cage, just push the stops as far open as they will go. You may have to beat the assy back in with...
Send it to Hydrotec and listen to every word they tell you. Period.
I do agree with this Phil, But thoery does not always work and some things need no explanation, and regaurdless of theory and understanding sometimes experiance prevails. I will stay out from now on,...
Are the parts still around for these things? I need a cap. The three cylinder one. It is one of the last years that had the dist. Thanks.
Mr Phil, you keep asking questions. That means that you do not know every thing. So why do you argue with every answer that is given to you? There are many very experianced people here that are tring...
for sure, didn't mean any offense for sure.
Just for thoughts, I just worked on a STOCK 25hp Kolar Pro drive motor. Cleaned the carb and replaced the fuel pump. Just for giggles I checked the compression, 200psi. This motor is 7yrs old and I...
Chris, I run 87 octain with 170psi and see close to 8000rpm every time out. I don't worry if it is ethanol or not. I do run KLOTZ oil. I think that you are worring about this fuel stuff too much....
No Phil, not from me. My jokeing days are long gone. You ever make it down here bring your own gps, I'll launch the boat and give you the key.
If you are not partial to the OMC, I know you have one to start with.... Sell it a go with a 90 Yamaha, great power, great prop selection. And no it is not too big or too heavy. If you think so, what...
Never saw that before, good find!
All I know is that the fishermen here that pull the stats wear a motor out way faster than those that don't. A motor has to be at temp to make power. I run 1 1/2" above the bottom, with a factory...
A cold engine will wear it self out.
I get it at ace hardware, full strength. I do the blocks too if they are bad. It is easy to use and works wonders.
I use muratic acid. It turns yellow and bubbles all over, smokes too. The you rinse it off with water.
