NO, I actually NC milled to water jacket out on a very early Bridgeport NC mill. I snuck into the machine shop at school on a Sunday and ran off 25 of them. The professor happened to be in correcting...

FA Konigs: The first one is stamped FA56. So the crankcase is 1956 vintage. The carburetors look much latter than that. The fiberglass spray shield is 1968-69vintage. Thinking the motor was upgraded...
My vote would be NO. Over the years we have found that the closer you can get the carburetor to the motor the better off you are. Two data points. Years ago I did a lot of Yamaha KT 100 kart engines...
Check out who won AU and by how much.....Many of todays racers only know him as a propeller guy.
I totally misunderstood the question. I would defiantly cut the sleeve back so all three of the transfer ducts are the same length. There is a design flaw in the 45 motors.
Look through the 4 main...
Yes. I would recommend raising the boost port so it opens at the same time as the transfers or even a little sooner. Years ago one of the tricks to making a FA Konig go was to raise the boost port...
Check your PM's
Hello all,
As many of you know, we are arranging a mechanics weekend in Elkhart, IN February 23rd & 24th. This class is not limited to just USTS members and is a free class (there may be a small...
YES.
Years ago I was racing Kawasaki 125 based engines. I had the brilliant idea to use their 250 sized reed cage in my next motor. (Six pedal verses 8 pedal) Built a new billet crankcase and some...
My first trip to Depue in 1972, I was checking out Ron Anderson's AOH rig in the pits. One of the things I noticed was he had real low boat stands. The only reason I noticed this was because my...
Next year is perfect. I will do my best to round up the crew from the North East. Yale, Snow, Goller, Giles for starters.

The AOMC used to have a 5hp "fun class" for the young kids to run at their meets. One "stock" 5hp motor had a big carb, counter weighted crank, lightened crank / flywheel, couple of extra reeds per...
Almost smells like the case has been surfaced at some point over the years. Pull the crank out, bolt the cases together and then install the lower bearing carrier. See if the aft face of the bearing...
Quincy used to build a sleeve to go from the roller bearing top diameter of the 20-H / 25 crankshaft to same size as the lower ball bearing diameter. Check their price list.

Wayne: When your searching for motor photo's, please look extra hard for the following ones:
Bob Rhodes ZAK Konig 500/700
Bill Fales 6 Looper
Jerry Waldman any looper
Jim Hallum Anzani
Sid Craft and latter Sid Son were all built in New Jersey (on the East Coast). In my 40 + years of racing I have never seen a Champion boat. I have seen hundreds of Sid's. I think Sid just built a...
I am 20 minutes South of Hartford. Will help in any way I can. PM me on this or call me at 860-349-9310

Both pictures are special to me. I was on the deck riding with Bill when the Looper came apart. It ran for about 50 feet and stopped hard. As any good deck rider, I was dog paddling like hell to get...
The first three shots look like Depue shore line. The last three I don't know. The two pipe motors are class A or B. The four pipe motors are class C, D or F. They have Thunderbolt ignition and the...
Carbon Fiber reeds don't work on metal reed cages. The reed cage needs to be rubber coated or made out of plastic. (V-Force) There are shops out there that say they can rubber coat a stock metal...
My guess is a Grant built Konig and a Marchetti.

We raced a 350 4 cylinder Yamato with the same style Bing carbs. With motor mounted as it came from the factory it ran good. Looking for more speed we turned the powerhead 90 degrees so the pipes...
If I was doing it, I would clean with Castrol Superclean and hot water. 3/32 diameter 4043 filler rod. Doubt you need to pre heat it.

Posts like this are the reason there is a Boat Racing Facts....Joe: Great job, great photo's. The flat 4 with reeds and Rotax style porting would have been very interesting.
Peter looks so much...
Got your PM. Alex Policoff up in Richmond Maine has a real good crank guy near him that has done a bunch of Tohatsu cranks. Pete Nydhal is also real good. Rex Hall also does a ton of cranks. Any one...
Not wanting to cause problems, but PM me who did the crank. I might be able to shed some light on the problem if it who I think it is.

A long time ago, no a long, long time ago I bought a bunch of looper parts from Dick Fickett. Had a pair of the "I Beam" merc rods that had been milled down to clear the counter weights on a Quincy...
E mail me at teammsr@comcast.net or call me at 860-349-9310 and we can talk.

Could one of them been Doug Bindram ? He won FRR with a Konig in ithe early to mid 70's.

I am a couple of days late on this one...Skip Birbarie was D-72. Only ran AOH. John R. Yale was D-14. Most of the time he was in O'Dea's J-2 boat. On the very first shot from Dayton, George Andrews's...
John Schubert was with Lawn Boy, also an OMC company. He was the connection for Pioneer igniton parts. Pete Helsten had it on all sorts of motors. 125's, 250's and C-Service. Nick Birbarie showed me...
The Harrison Igniton in the photo was built to fit the Yamato 350-500 motors. In the early to mid 80's Kay was very heavy in to Yamato's. His casting and they bought the igniton parts form Phelon,...
Please pull out "the book" and see who bought the last "A" Looper block. I have an idea......
Thanks

Of the 55 there are still a several guys racing, but how many are dumb enough to still be racing A Hydro 35 years latter ?????????
Two dumb blond haired kids that have not grown up yet......
...
Try Bob Zipps. Last I knew, he has a real nice one. Should be able to talk him into some pictures for you.

How about "Rhino Crafts" ...I think the first ones were Jeff and Gene Apel (Jimmy's dad) creations. I remember them running 250-350-500-700-and 1100 at Hinton with two boats.

The A looper from Vt. was Bob Grover. One of the cleanest rigs I have ever seen. Brand new Yale boat and one of the last A loopers built. Bob and his brother Fred races A and B hydro in Canada, as...
It is sort of a radial.....If you look at it from the top, it looks like a radial. Best description is three opposed 250 motors stacked up but twisted 120 degrees. By doing this Bruce was able to...
Dave: Danny was one of the very best. I learned so much from racing against him. He was the complete package, motor guy, set up guy and one hell of a driver.
Fred: Yes you should...
When I ran the Yamato piston port 250 motors, I changed out a lot of sleeves. Not fun. Freeze sleeve, heat block in wife's oven, stink up house..., get burnt trying to get ports lined up. Ports dont...
But I like it.....Could change the name from Cowdery to Greaves and publish it.
See ya in a couple of weeks.

In my photo colection, I have one of the 8 cylinder Konig, that I thought was from the first Winona Nationals. Is that what is on the inside?
The boat he switched to in 700 was Rex's. Danny had...
Bob, great shots. Look a couple of boats past Nydal's boat and you can see John R Yales Marchetti A boat. (D-1) . I had a Sid Craft with a looper in 1972 and drove my butt of to qualify it. John had...
Full tilt Mod 50 porting worked just fine on our FRR motor 20 something years ago. Big old flat deck Desilva with two guys in it.
There is at least one FEH out there with full Mod 50 porting. He...
Sam, you spent to much time around boats and not enough around bikes. Just a normal road racing side car, nothing special. In to the early 90's they were stilll running full tilt 500cc two stroke...
There is a guy in East Hartford Ct named Bob Zipps that has a wealth of knowledge on OMC race motors. Would be worth talking to him. If interested, E mail me at teammsr@comcast.net and I will get you...
Make up same 1/4 inch spacers and run NGK B-11-EGV plugs. Gap them at .012" and have fun.
Michael D-1
Wayne, you should have made the trip. Was some great racing. Henderson killed the field in 250. Won all three heats. Was by far the fastest and drove his butt off.
Nicholson damn near won 250...
The motor in the photo from 1972 at Depue on the previous page is his six cylinder Quincy Looper. From the outside it looked like a real clean Quincy. Bill and Ellie put a ton of time into developing...
This shot should go under "Coolest Engine of All Times". It has my vote.
I had the honor of riding deck in this beast, racing against it and even working on parts of it. This thing was ultra trick...
