Hi Jackie,
Found this old Paris report, (must have been a proud day). Looks like the same rig at Fairford, I'm guessing it was a couple of months previous to Paris during the summer of 1979.
Super!!!
Remember some great ads from those big sponsors back in the day.
Here's one from Carlsberg, will have to put some others to the scanner.
Coincidentally,
I recently found and dusted off my old copy of the Cardiff programme in order to search for info that someone requested.
What excellent footage, and wouldn't it be a wonderful story if Massimo's mother get's to see it too.
Hi Tim,
Can't really say as I'm not too sure exactly how the air was re distributed after entering those pods.
In relation to length the SE boats usually carried more beam than the larger tunnels...
Hi Roberto,
Sorry can't find either co-driver at the moment. The smaller classes like SE are very hard to pick up information on as they don't seem to be reported as well as the larger category...
Thanks for that Roberto.
Hi Roberto,
With Paris so late in the season Cees must have taken the early oppurtunity of a Mercury ride before switching camps for the following season. Would like to see your picture of the...
Hi Roberto,
Just had Jackie Wilson confirm his co-driver was British racer Peter Inward, another small piece of the Paris puzzle solved.
Hi Sutter's Gold Jr.
Nice shots, even the team gear was great during those days. Wonder how many of those jackets, belts etc are around today.
I think the Long John Velden boats were racing in...
Master Oil Racing
Thanks for posting the Percival article, how do you manage to get it big enough to read on here?
Having read a few different articles on these events I've seen various...
Hi Roberto,
The Velden was so close to the Molinari it was nicknamed "Veldenari".
Sorry just can't remember or find who partnered Derek Rundle in the OE. You were right about the boat being a...
Nice pictures again Roberto, don't worry about the English I am understanding
you perfectly well.
The British co-driver for Didier Josseaume in 1976 was Steve Pinson.
John Hill's co-driver in...
Hi Roberto
Once again your pictures are amazingly good.
I think the original boat No.20 picture from 1975 could be Tom Posey, not sure who the second driver was.
Second picture of boat No.87...
Roberto
Many thanks, looking forward to seeing those.
Great photos Roberto,
It's rare to see pictures like that from those great Paris events, please share more if you have any.
The cowl may have come from Rick Frost who ran Trimite colours at the time.
Seem to remember some footage of the wizard on an old 80's video.
Here it is again in London 1984
44 Guido Cappellini
2 Jon Jones
11 Michael Werner
3 Tony Williams
52 John Hill
10 Chris Bush
Either Mike or Bill Seebold in red boat entering the shot.
All have been Champions in this,...
I found another pic with Michael Werner, he's in the middle ( boat 11).
But I just noticed something about this shot from Bristol 1988.
All six main boat drivers and the seventh red boat coming...
Tim,
Took a while but finally dug out a shot of Michael Werner. It was taken at
the Bristol GP around 1990.
Only ever saw Earl Bentz race in Europe with the Long John boats.
I remember him setting a course record at Bristol with the Merc T4, that
still remains as one of the most incredible laps I've ever...
Do you know if many Brits are making the journey to the Mora event?
GOOD STUFF, are these the same group of Swedes who make occasional visits to the UK with their classics?
Just fished out another pic of Buck at Bristol GP 1986
Great pictures,
Certainly is a wide variety of craft, can't say I'm too familiar with the German scene during those days. Hard to tell, but I'm almost certain the blue 10 ON in the earlier...
I took this pic in Belguim around 1980, the white Merc powered boat in the background is Michael Werner. It's definitely an OE but still can't be sure if it is the boat in question.
Bristol GP England 1988
Bristol GP England 1986
This boat certainly never won the F2 world title during those dates. Michael Werner used Seebold hulls to win championships in 1982 and 1983 with John Hill taking the title in 1984 and 1985.
This...
Bristol Grand Prix England 1986
ALF BULLEN Bristol late 1970s
B. Valachovic you have a fine collection of photographs, many thanks for sharing them with us and please continue to do so as it is very much appreciated. I also have one of ANDY BULLEN at the...
Thanks, don't suppose you got any idea of what year this was?
Agonizingly I just can't read the names but your'e right it does look a little like Woods. It Appears to be some sort of marathon race but with no background for clues I haven't even got the...
Can anyone out there please reveal the drivers identity of this late 1970s possibly early 80s OZ rig?
Nice pictures, who was driving the Arcadian boat?
It's a small world, my dad used to race V bottoms with Jon Jones in England back in the late 70s. Here's one of those early boats Jon raced until Roger Jenkins persuaded him to join the ON Class...
This photo shows Buck at the Bristol Grand Prix in 1986. Looks like it's possible your picture of Jon Jones shows him in the exact same boat, any idea if I'm right?
At the bottom of the 1976 Molinari picture I posted you will see Bob Hering. The following year both Molinari & Hering ran these Saffa boats with Molinari (2) using an Evinrude V6 and Hering (3) a...
Yes got loads more and here's just a few, although some may be slightly earlier. I will sort out some more to post soon, hope you enjoy.
Just saw the name Buck Thornton so thought I'd post this shot I took at Bristol in England, it was during the 1980s but I'm not sure of the exact year.
Here's an old Merc poster featuring Renato himself in that same low cowl design. He must have switched back to Evinrude just after this poster was produced.
Much obliged for your help Sam. There definately was a 650xs and 700x used in OE during those days but the motor in question, although bigger than these certainly looks nothing like the maximum...
The picture shows John Hill running a boat clearly marked OI class in about 1975. The maximum capacity for OI was 1500 cc, but can anyone help identify exactly what motor he is running. Was there...
An Interesting contest between the JPS F1 car and boat teams of 1982
Roger Jenkins 1982 F1 World Champion
If memory serves me right, Earl Bentz and Tom Percival ran identical rigs to Billy at that meeting forming a 3 boat team. I'm sure I still have the programme from that event, must dig it out.
