    The inboard crowd seem to get along fine without any manufacturer being involved, ( clearly more choice of engine stuff) I cant see why OB cant be the same assuming we arent using purpose built parts that only are available from the manufacturers..I guess there's my answer there are less OB racers therefore only one source of parts?

    There are about 150,000 outboard motors sold in the U.S. every year ranging in size from 3 to 350HP and spread across 5 or 6 outboard companies. Demand limits the desire for after market mfgrs. to develop and build parts for even the stock motors much less anything that is hi-perf. no demand equals no supply. That's also the reason an outboard motor costs so much (compared to a car).

    why is the sst 120 a LH powerhead?

    Because it's a 2 stroke, it's easier to turn the P/H backwards than to build a gearcase that changes the rotation. And, of course you want the prop turning left for better handling in the turns.

    so the 200xs has a special ssm gearcase?

    Yes the SST 200 XS has a right in left out gearcase
