    Dear RV Participants,

    Thanks for your past support of San Diego Bayfair! It’s only through the long term development of our team in San Diego we’ve been able to produce such a high quality family festival for so many great people…since 1964. It’s very much a San Diego family tradition, and one we’re working diligently to continue and improve.

    In our first letter we indicated “Planned” attractions, which included the unlimited hydroplanes (H1). At that time, we believed there were some potential sponsors with enough significant interest we could include them as planned….but not confirmed. We held up mailing our RV renewals as long as possible, but finally we simply had to get them in the mail….many of you asking for them, and wanting an update.

    Again, as many of you are aware, all forms of motorsports have changed, including boat racing…in some cases there are fewer categories, and less boats; but more importantly less sponsors. And, without high quality sponsors, we simply are unable to book certain classes. That’s the case for the H1 series and Drag Boats….the previous business model has not been working and as it stands today there is no funding available to include them. Combined with increased event expenses, city, fencing, support services, etc., the financial equation is at best challenging.

    So….what does that mean for the Bayfair’s future. Well, our intent is to re-build a magnificent San Diego tradition, one block at a time….and our first emphasis is on the family festival elements….motorhomers, fun zones for kids, beer gardens, special events during the weekend, etc….followed by attracting those racing classes allowed within our budget. We will of course continue to pursue financial partners and as we do, add more fun ‘blocks’ to the Festival.

    Thus, we’ll see joining us the following boat racing categories: Off-Shore Racers, Limited Class Hydroplanes, other APBA Powerboat Racing classes….and more as we can add them. But, because of our reformatting, you have to make a decision, and that’s to support our long term vision or not….and of course we hope you’ll choose to stay with us, encourage your friends to come….and if anyone knows of potential sponsors wanting additional visibility to the public, pass their names and contact information to us…and we’ll chase after them. Bottom line, there will be “Thunder” on the Bay in 2010 with your help and support.

    Again, we appreciate your past support…but more than that we appreciate your future support. Anyone already signed up (with a deposit) wanting a refund, please contact us and we’ll return your deposit immediately. For those wanting to be there in 2010…..let’s make it happen and have a great time. You have until Friday, April 23rd to finalize your 2010 reservation with an appropriate deposit. After that time, we’ll open up sales to others on our waiting list, and believe it or not, we have one…people are anxious to enjoy a beautiful weekend in Mission Bay Park, knowing it’s the only opportunity during the year to do so. For those of you deciding to confirm your reservation by April 23rd, we’ll add one 3-day pass to your package (and that means for those of you already reserved, you’ll be receiving the pass also). We promise you we’re diligently working to provide the best Bayfair experience possible, and are committed to growing and improving the event each year…taking a long term vision.

    In my opinion, there is too much PC fluffy crap in this letter. It should include this:

    "Where in San Diego, can you go for an entire weekend, for $20.00? you will spend $12 for just the museums at Balboa park. You will spend $18 to tour the Midway Aircraft carrier Museum per person and be done with either of those in 3 hours. If you want to watch the Chargers you will spend $65.00 to watch them get their butts kicked by about any team in the league, you will drop $30 a head to get into sea world and see some wossie fish show.

    By going to the Bayfair Thunderboat races, you will only spend $20 for the weekend, and still get to see SeaWorlds fireworks at night. You will be released from the bondage that San Diego placed on Alcohol on all it's beachs and be allowed to drink all weekend, and if you come by the stock outboard pitts and ask for Bobby Pebbles, you may just get to watch his daughters play volleyball......

    So, in this down turned Obama socialist economy you can clearly see the Thunderboat races, and Bayfair is where you will get the best bang for your buck....

    Even though you will pay just $20 for an entire seat at Bayfair, we are pretty confident that all you will occupy is the edge.......

    Add that and see the fans flock....They need to get some stones.....

    Does this mean there will be plenty of room in the inboard pits again? Will we see the "G" boats as the main event? Sounds like fun and where are they playing bolly ball?

    Default Looks like No NJBA/Lucas Oil Drag Boats this year at Bayfair.

    Liquid quarter mile drag racing returns once again to Lake Elsinore, California.

    On September 18th &19th, 2010, the National Jet Boat Association and Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series team up to bring you over 200 mph side by side drag racing.

    Qualifying will be run on Saturday starting at 8am and Racing will begin Sunday at 8 am.

    All NJBA bracket and pro classes will be run EXCEPT Super Eliminator.

    The 7.70 run is NOT in effect.

    The course will be run away from the lake, toward the stadium.

    The NJBA rule book will be in effect. Tech will be conducted consistent with
    Rules and guidelines set forth by the NJBA as previously run at Bakersfield, CA.

    To be eligible to run an NJBA class such as UBFJ, you must have registered and raced with NJBA at Bakersfield in the 2010 season, and be a current NJBA member.

    Brackets such as Pro Eliminator, Top Eliminator, Modified Eliminator or Stock Eliminator and River Racer class are open to any LODBRS, NJBA, CDBA, SDBA or KDBA racing member.

    The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series TV crew will be present at this event. To be interviewed or filmed for use on national televsion YOU MUST BE IN APPROPRIATE attire. NO t-shirts, All drivers must be wearing driving suits, at all times.

    The Pro Boats such as TAF, TAH, TFH, will be pitting in the stadium parking lot, all others will be pitting on the levee.

    This is the first I have heard of anything and I also confirmed there is a tentative sanction listed on the APBA racing calander including Offshore, OPC, Inboard, IE, SO, MOD, PRO and J Catagory. Interesting news considering there is no longer a "G" class in the ULHRA.

    slideshow Bayfair racing officials are banking on the strong-running G-boats and the unlimited lights class to generate the excitement once commanded by the traditional unlimited hydroplanes for September’s versatile boating “World Series” races on Mission Bay.

    Once again, it will be three days of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. action on Mission Bay, scheduled for Sept. 17-19 this year.

    For the second year, the turbine-powered unlimiteds will not return for lack of a sponsor and a price tag that was too great for the festival’s board of governors. Additionally, the drag boats that performed off Crown Point have elected to race at Lake Elsinore instead.

    Board Chairman Jeff Thomas said the program will be exactly what it was last year without the drag boats. The event will include the long-hulled offshore boats, grand nationals, cracker boxes, super stocks and a variety of other classes.

    “I think last year’s races were the best I’ve seen in a long time,” said Thomas, who’s been a part of the Mission Bay festival for 30 years. “There’s no major sponsor, at least not one I can say yet.

    “We walked around the crowd last year and asked what they liked out there. They agreed that the unlimiteds' rooster tails are spectacular but they prefer more noise, the type piston engines provide.” \

    There is sentiment that the G-boats might be the answer and officials feel unlimited lights will provide closer competition.

    “The G-boats run around 1,100 to 1,200 horsepower and they put on a good race.” Thomas said.

    “The unlimiteds haven’t progressed and when they would arrive here, their hulls were scarred,” Thomas said. “Personally, I think they made a mistake by going to turbines. Technology for piston engines has increased remarkably. We want to bring racing back to what people understand.”

    Thomas said the door is always open to the unlimiteds if they want to negotiate.

    The sanctioning organization, H1 Hydroplanes, has had its share of scheduling headaches. The traditional Detroit Gold Cup (July 9-11) was saved by a last minute sponsorship by a restoration company. Seattle’s SeaFair (Aug. 6-9) will survive because a restaurant came up with $40,000. However, the long-standing Evansville, Ind., races have been canceled.

    Previously, Budweiser offered the national sponsor base. Other national sponsors became partners in the programs, including Coors, Miller and Atlas Van Lines. That is what helped pay for the unlimiteds to be in San Diego in the past.

    Looking at going to this event for the first time. Figure we'll get the three day passes (w/ pit passes) and go for two days.

    Any pointers? I've been to NASCAR & NHRA, but never any major boat races.

    Best area to watch from? Are the pits worth checking out?

    Dumb question... do they have any bleachers or any other type of seating??

    Will the crowd be much bigger on Sunday than Saturday??

    Lots of displays to walk around and look at. Last year i sat right on the beach, I was not looing for bleachers but I don't think they have them.

    Are you gonna be around the inboard pits or on the south side? I have seen pics of these Brats and would love to smell them as well
