Default Reed valves for old Mercs

I ordered in some Boyesen B241-16 reeds for a couple of old Mercs I am working on. According to their catalog they should work on these motors. They are not even close, see the pic. In contacting their tech line it appears they can't see as they insist the 241-16 are the right ones even with the picture I sent.

SO will one of you knowledgeable folks out there please either tell me what Boyesen WILL work, or route me to another source??!!.

    Default Reeds

My buddy- "MercMack" had about same problem with Boyeson reeds for his 3 cylinder merc 700. He called Boyeson and they did exchange the reeds to the correct reeds . again; the part # on package was correct , but - the wrong reeds were in package .Maybe thats Gods punishment for owning a MERC ? (kidding )

    Talking reeds for merc

Dont let Yard Bird get to you., What i did was send a Old steal reed assy to them along with the reeds that your got from them and they will send you the right ones..At least they have been more than fair with me over the years..

Thanks, with all the confusion I decided to just leave the steel reeds in the motors.

a 3rd port job will alleviate the breathing problem.

As to "OMC" I was an Evinrude dealer from 68 thru to the end in '99. Starting with an X-115 and thru MOD 50 I enjoyed kicking Merc BUTT!

Started racing in 1961 in CU, still have a love of old Kiekhaefer stuff from the 50's!!

I hope you're not using those short opening cages shown in your photo.
