What engine is this?
How much torque are you needing?
Is there no other way to lock the flywheel at the flywheel?
Is it electric start? If so can you wedge against the starter teeth?
What about a strap wrench around the flywheel?
Use a strap wrench or flywheel gear holder.

it has the ring gear removed ,its a manual start motor.
i think i'l use a strap wrench ,i didn't even think of that..
thanks for your replies.
Mine is an old OMC so I am able to hold it from turning it with a simple 6 in 'c ' clamp onto the flywheel lodging it against the block, works great!
