Teri Ziemer Reports from region 11 website:
Only major news is that Bob Wartinger took a tumble out of his new boats while testing. Bob's helmet came off when he hit the water and as a precaution he got a special tour of the emergency room at the local hospital. Bob is OK...except for feeling like he went 10 rerounds with Mohamad Ali..tweaked neck/shoulder, bitten tongue, and various bruises and abrasions. He will be parked in a lawn chair for the rest of the weekend.

Did that happen in his 125 or OSY400?

    Default Saturday report

    Here's the latest from www.boatracingr11.com

reported by Teri Ziemer :Saturday was another good day for the West Coast!

The "Hawaiin Shirt Gang" once again dominated the Antiques classes. George Thorhill won Antique C Racing Runabout with Jim Nielsen coming in a close second. In Antique C Service Hydro the dark horse (after Friday's bad luck) was Zach Maihiott...well Zach was also the beach favorite! It may have been the lucky quarter he found Saturday morning- - Zach won the championship with George Thornhill in second and Jim Nielsen in third.

250cc Runabout proved a mechanical challenge for Joe Johnson. After testing and finding add'l speed, Joe went out in heat #1 and toasted a piston...luckily due to a clock malfunction, the heat was rerun. A new piston and a second chance, Joe went out to once again burn a whole in the top of a piston. Turns out that the jet he had grabbed out of the bin was soddered closed (yep, that'll do it!). Another piston and 2 heats to run, the boat ran like a scaulded dog! Starting mid pack in both heats (for those of you who know Joe, please note he did not jump the gun!) he worked his was to 3rd and 2nd in his respective heats. Out of 14 boats and with only 2 heats, Joe finished with a respectable 4th place overall.

500cc Runabout was as exciting as ever. J.W. Meyers showed up Thursday night to drive for Howard Andersen. JDub seemed to take going from unlimiteds to kneelers in stride (as usual). With 3 heats of racing, the fast guys all seemed to have a good shot at the title. When the spray had cleared, Mike Thirlby took home the championship with Paul Fuchslin taking an impressive second.

700cc Hydro was another Thirlby family win, this time with 18 year old Brandon behind the wheel. Brandon won with a dominating 3 heat wins. Sean McKean chased Brandon all 3 heats and took home a 2nd place.

After a day filled with clock malfunctions and delays, the awards banquet finally got underway at 8:30 at the Pitstick Pavillion. With Ray Rodda as the master of ceremonies, the banquet was a huge sucess. Ray may be "half the man" he used to be, but his wicked sense of humor is as sharp as ever.

Sunday dawns with 350cc Runabout, 125cc Hydro, 1100cc Hydro, and the crowd favorite of 1100cc Runabout!

    Default Wartinger

Bob was in a Runnecraft OSY. Friday was definately his worst day, but the milkshake diet is getting old. The best news was that his toolbox (that went missing after the accident) was found - as Pat Gleason said "It contains everything, yet nothing, and weighs 400 lbs".

    Guys,

interested to read that Bob W's helmet came off in his accident. As a member of the UIM Safety committee maybe he was taking his research a little too far......!!!

Glad to read that he is doing OK - and I am sure it will not be long before he appears at a boat race near us soon........
