Default 1995 Mercury 40HP 4 cylinder Oil Pump Removal

I have a 4 cylinder 44 cu inch Merc I want to remove the oil injection system from. There is an oil pump at the bottom of the block.

    Should I:

    1. Remove the driven (worm) gear and put the now disabled pump back on to cover the hole? Will this change matter with respect to the crankcase volume being increased due to the gear no longer being there?

    2. Buy the Merc part (#26) that covers the hole? And again, should the gear be left in or removed when putting the cover plate on for the reason above?
