Default yamato kill switch installation help

need some info on hooking up my kill switch on my yamoto, there are three wires coming out of the mag and one is the ground and the other two are off of the two coils ,do i need two kill switchs, or can the two wires to the coils be put together and run to one kill switch ?

You need a kill switch like is used on the Konig engines, three terminals grounding out to a common ground (one for the ground and the two remaining for each hot). Do not connect the two hots together.

Montoya sells 3 wire kill switches for the Yamato 302. Or, you can use 2 kill switches or buy a dual input blocking diode and run the wires from each coil (2) into the blocking diode and use 1 standard 2 wire kill switch.....you CANNOT just hook the wires together and use one kill switch (without the blocking diode).........

Mercury sells the blocking diode kit...........

Steve Greaves (Portage Bay/Keller) also sells a kit........

Just go buy two diodes- 600-1000 rated volts . Total cost under $2. Hook one end of each diode to the coil wires and the other together and hook an ordinary kill switch to the paired diodes and ground. Simple, cheap and effective. The 3 wire procedure is bull- go with two and some solid-state technology. If you can't find diodes readily- we have found them at appliance service places for microwave oven repair- drop me a PM- have a box of them. Don't even think of using the stupid three wire switch or even worse, two kill switches. The Mercury dual engine kit works but last time I knew was over $30.

Here is what I am using on my Yamato 302. After soldering the wires & diodes these are inserted into a short plastic hose then epoxy is poured into the hose to seal everything from water. Very reliable.
